Has anyone with a cough tested negative?

I had a snotty nose over the weekend but woke up during the night with a new cough and my cheeks felt like they were burning (temperature was fine though at 36.9).
DS age 3 was supposed to be at Grandma's today which we of course cancelled, cancelled our new boiler being fitted and also unfortunately my 32wk growth scan at hospital which is important as I'm diabetic and high risk pregnancy.

Luckily got a drive through test this morning at 9.30am but starting to get really worried in case it's positive.

Does having a cough mean it's pretty much inevitable? Has anyone else had a cough and it came back negative? DH tested too...he has started with a tickly dry cough this morning although not as persistent as mine.

Yes I've had an awful cough, and loss of smell, for over a week now and I'm negative.

Christmascheese · 22/12/2020 11:49

You know people have had coughs long before COVID was around don’t you?? Of course it’s possible it’s just a regular cough.

Thank you, that's reassuring that there's still a chance. Hope you're feeling better soon xx

Yes, I had all of the symptoms but tested negative

I know, you're right of course. I'm 33wks pregnant and hormonal/anxious. I was just looking for some people with similar experiences for some friendly reassurance.

My common sense is clearly out the window right now!

I don't know what the current positivity rate is, maybe 10%, the vast majority of people with every symptom are testing negative
MaryShelley1818 · 22/12/2020 11:57

Thank you!!
Sorry, I know, ridiculous bloody question in retrospect but reading the responses has helped.
I will give my head a wobble and try and think positive (or negative!) Until the result comes back.

My dc has, twice!

gamerchick · 22/12/2020 11:59

Yep, one of my tests was for thiose symptoms OP. Really annoying at the time though.

ElizabethG81 · 22/12/2020 12:03

I had a cough come out of nowhere, which is unusual for me as I usually only develop one at the end of a cold. Got tested and was negative.

Lumene · 22/12/2020 12:04

Yes

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/12/2020 12:20

I have. I have a persistent cough that got worse a couple of times. I've worked out now it gets worse when I'm stressed so I'm not worrying about it now.

Itmaybeus · 22/12/2020 12:41

Dc2 & 3 both had coughs, temp and one had stomach cramps both were negative in October.

Iamaweirdone · 22/12/2020 16:18

My older teen had a horrible cough and tested negative

ramblingsonthego · 22/12/2020 16:23

My daughter has had a terrible cough, headache, runny nose and blocked nose, sore throat. Been tested twice in 2 weeks and negative both times.

3littlewords · 22/12/2020 16:23

I had a horrendous cough but tested negative but I do have asthma and can cough quite badly anyway. Needless to say I had lots of funny looks when barking my head off in Asda

Zoflorabore · 22/12/2020 16:28

Ds (17) hasn’t been well for well over a week now. Cough, temp, aches etc.

He woke up last Monday feeling really bad so we booked a test which was in a local car park and received result early evening on the Tuesday which was negative.

He was convinced it was covid. He has a week on a week off at college and had been in a choir the week before with a boy who had tested positive. Dd (9) also not well with the same symptoms.

I’ve told them both that there are a ton of different viruses going around, same as every other winter.

CatVsChristmasTree · 22/12/2020 16:29

Cold symptoms for 4 days then a cough, slight temperature. Negative, as were DS2 who had stomach upset followed by cold symptoms and DS1 who had a sore throat and slight cough.

elsaesmeralda · 22/12/2020 16:36

Yep had a sore throat and cough out of the blue, headaches and generally feeling shit, negative.

laudemio · 22/12/2020 18:04

Yes four times now!

Bex19999 · 22/12/2020 18:38

I had cough sore throat and loss of smell/taste and was negative

MaryShelley1818 · 22/12/2020 19:36

I had a slight (but dry) cough for a few days and tested negative. I had a raised heart rate and found difficulty breathing, so guess that’s why I was coughing.

MaryShelley1818 · 23/12/2020 05:17

19hr turnaround and negative result!! So relieved.
Thank you all for the common sense yesterday and positive stories!
