How is this going to pan out now?

Just that really.

I’ve gone from being fairly calm and level headed about it all but this weekend my panic is ramping up.

I’m in tier 1 and cases have tripled in a week- surely we can’t stay like this? 19 in 100k to 64 a couple of days ago.... 5 people in hospital to 29. I know we’re still much lower but it’s rising and pretty fast.

Now the news about the new strain. The freight issues. The implications on both for the vaccine. Talk on here of panic buying tomorrow. 70 % more transmissible which will mean staff shortages in key areas...

It feels worse than March. Will another (inevitable) lockdown do anything but cripple businesses even further?

Where are we heading with this?

I feel.the same.

I can't see how the new strain can be contained/restricted to the T4 areas. It will spread through the whole country so we will all end up in T4.

I hadn't heard anything about stockpiling. Is that because of the freight restrictions France is imposing?

I think a lockdown is imminent. However judging by compliance levels in November I really don’t know how effective it will be.

It could be months until roll out of vaccine- what will happen in the meantime?

I’ve just read threads on here about plans to stockpile. This selfish behaviour needs to stop...

To make matters worse a lot of countries don't want us there now due to the new strain. The impact of this doesn't bare thinking about.

Fuck knows, nightmare, I’ll be getting the food shop when I finish at 6am 🤨

Whirlwind14 · 21/12/2020 03:01

If it’s present in the SE, predominantly Kent it makes me think it came in from Europe.

I can’t sleep now. My mind is heading down the apocalyptic blockbuster route. I’ve been relatively calm about this since lockdown 1!

@GerardWay123 Maybe the Gov. will learn a very big lesson from it about using the media to scare the public into compliance. MUTANT COVID was the headline on the front of the Metro. So maybe its also time for Leveson 2

Aaargh I'm concerned about this new turn of events, hopefully we can restore our supply chains quickly.

My mind is doing exactly the same thing! Been working through all sorts of scenarios since I went to bed - had just got to, if dh and I both get Covid and die, who will look after our dogs?! That was after exhausting all sorts of scenarios with my young adult dcs and worrying about the impact on them of such prolonged periods of isolation/wfh.
