What do we do now?!

Left a tier 2 location last week to stay in a holiday cottage next to parents who are also in tier 2 location. This was always the plan to then spend Christmas With them.

Friday announced our area was going into tier 3 then Saturday it's then announced our area is tier 4 but parents area is still tier 2!

What the heck do we do now?! Do we leave and travel back to tier 4 or just stay and come back the day after Boxing Day as per the original
plan?

Parents said we should just stay as we're here already but I'm not sure what the legal rules are? I've tried googling and reading the updates etc but I'm still none the wiser.

Stay

You travel back now as this is the law for those in tier 4 (the only exception to this being if you have travelled by public transport and cannot obtain earlier tickets to travel back, in which case you must remain in the holiday cottage and not see your parents).

You’re fine to stay in tier 2 seeing as you’ve been there a while and since before the rules changed. Once you return to tier 4 you’ll have to stay there.

Which bit of law says that exactly?

Similar situation for me and my family. Although more along the lines of it being outside the Xmas bubble period. We're staying in T1, live in T2. Staying.

People from London currently in Dubai aren't suddenly going to come home early, and there is no law to make them.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/12/2020 08:06

You're fine to stay there as you'd already arrived before the restrictions took hold.

It would be stupid to spread the virus by travelling BACK. Hmm

Enjoy your holiday ThanksCakeThanksWine

In terms of the published legal regulations, tier 4 is a stay at home order - you must not be outside your permanent home except for legally permitted reasons.

Exception 11 states that you are allowed to be outside your permanent home if you are travelling to return to it, i.e. coming back from holiday.

Legally, you should return home immediately because you are otherwise not permitted to be away from home.

What you do with the information is up to you I suppose.
