I someone say on the restrictions thread someone asked for details on common transmission on Coronavirus so just wondering how do you think you caught it?

The trouble is nobody really knows do they?
Its an impossible situation all round.

IHeartKingThistle · 20/12/2020 21:18

Teacher, got it from school despite following all the rules.

FiggyPuddingFiend · 20/12/2020 21:21

Almost certainly from school, I'm a secondary teacher - we've had lots of cases and lots of students who are ill but with non-testable symptoms (headache, upset stomach, sore throat, fatigue, feels unwell)

humtar · 20/12/2020 21:21

DS is a teacher and most likely caught it in school.

Kaliorphic · 20/12/2020 21:22

I think I caught it at uni back in March.

User158340 · 20/12/2020 21:22

@Covidrelapse

I’m a nurse and either caught it in a shop where I used gel on entry and exit and only handled what I bought. Or at work where I’m in full PPE at all times working with non-Covid patients (clinic setting) and am extremely cautious. It surprised me as I have taken every possible precaution so showed me how easily it can spread. Still suffering 6 weeks later.
I reckon a high percentage of people who have worked since March (outside their home) have caught it one way or another. It's workplaces that are the main spread in general; but that could be a hospital, a school, a shop, an office, a factory, a warehouse.
HarrietOh · 20/12/2020 21:25

Not a clue. I didn’t cause anyone to isolate (hadn’t seen anyone in the previous 48 hours) and no one I know has had it. I WFH and live alone, but I do go to gym so can only assume it was there! Even my DP has been fine, but I’d last seen him before I’d been to gym and luckily then spent a few days alone due to him having family caring commitments, which is when my symptoms appeared.

My husband who works abroad

It's a social virus. The more people you come into contact with, particularly indoors, the more you're likely to get it. Teachers have got no chance, for example.

If you've been able to stay at home (WFH, furloughed, retired etc) then it's a lot easier to avoid if you're taking the precautions.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 20/12/2020 21:26

Very interesting thread. Most people seem to have caught it from schools, their children or work. This goes against both

the official message that points the blame at "the home" or pubs / restaurants.

The undercurrent on MN that transmission is due to Other People being selfish and stupid and flouting the rules (going on holiday abroad, meeting people outside their bubble etc).

Holox · 20/12/2020 21:27

Not 100% but think the most likely place was a climbing centre we visited for my daughters birthday. We went as a family but rest of the session was filled with a kids birthday party, 20+ people altogether in the group with the only mitigation being the staff telling them to stay in groups of 6 during the safety briefing. Also had one visit to work around that time but didn't have contact with anyone, and went to the supermarket, so could have been those too.

balloon27 · 20/12/2020 21:29

Either in the range 🙈 or from taking my kids to school unless one of them brought it in!

miimblemomble · 20/12/2020 21:29

I had lunch with my colleague, face to face, no masks, etc. He was just starting to get symptoms, tested positive the next day. I tested positive 5 days later, with symptoms,

He caught it from a friend when they had dinner in a restaurant with a group. Of the 10 at the table, 6 of them tested positive within a week!

Any situation where masks are off and there is lots of talking / laughing / etc etc are pretty risky.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 20/12/2020 21:35

At work in a hospital working with covid patients had all the ppe on hand washing etc fortunately I was a symptomatic only found out due to a anti body test.

I honestly do. I had been isolating for a week before I showed symptoms.
IamHyouweegobshite · 20/12/2020 21:38

Either in a supermarket, where I sanitised hands, basket, only touched what I bought, social distanced and wore a mask, sanitised on exit too. Or in work, I'm a teaching assistant. Where I wear a mask and visor, sanitise and socially distance etc.

CherryPavlova · 20/12/2020 21:40

In a hospital when first a Covid19 patients arrived in emergency department.

Fudgewhizz · 20/12/2020 21:47

Most likely from DH or DD as they are both in school all day. Baby and I both got cold symptoms and I tested positive as I did a test as part of the Zoë symptom study. Neither of us ha been within 2m of anyone else so I can only assume DH or DD had it asymptomatically.

Fudgewhizz · 20/12/2020 21:49

@miimblemomble This is why I'm cross that the government didn't make it clearer about social distancing in restaurants etc - the guidance has always been that you should be 2m from anyone you don't live with, but so many people have been sitting with friends indoors as normal. Even though they weren't doing anything illegal, we should all still be keeping away from people not in our household.

CornishTiger · 20/12/2020 21:51

Work from the people I support. They don’t social distance.

Littlepond · 20/12/2020 21:58

I suspect public transport. I had it in March and no one else in my office had it. DH caught it from me.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 20/12/2020 22:00

At work in a hospital likely from my colleagues rather than the patients as ten of us tested positive. This was despite distancing, sanitising and wearing masks. Probably from being in the same office base with positive colleagues but more than that I don't know as so many of us got it at the same time.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 20/12/2020 22:02

Dh from work (teacher) and DDs from secondary school- separate schools with many cases. I caught it from Dh

2BDIs · 20/12/2020 22:08

From a friend who is a surgeon. We had gone for coffee in early March prior to any restrictions, social distancing etc. She though she had tonsillitis as she gets it every year but is wasn't

Sleepdeprived42long · 20/12/2020 22:09

I don’t understand why the app cannot give the data re where it is being transmitted. I don’t mean so the data can be given to individuals but generally to govt so they can make clear, informed, evidence based decisions.
