Question on behalf of a friend who had an alert on her test and trace app telling her she has been in contact with someone with covid and needs to isolate. But the app says for 6 days, surely this isn't long enough?!

Anyone else been told they need to isolate for less than 10 days?

It means the contact will have been 4 days ago, and it's taken that long for them to get in touch.

onedayinthefuture · 20/12/2020 16:35

Yes my friend had one to say isolate for 3 days.

treening · 20/12/2020 16:36

That's what I thought but all the literature online suggests that it would only ever be ten days.

She works at Costa in a tier 2 area so that's almost certainly where she picked it up. Costa tell their staff not to have the app and not to check in so they don't get contacted. Luckily she ignored that.

You don't have to self isolate if contacted by the app
You do if called. Surely is someone has given her name they would have told her?

triceratops12 · 20/12/2020 16:37

It's ten days from contact. If she works there and they tell her not to check in/switch contact tracing off she'll struggle getting the paid time off i would think. I doubt they'll be impressed

treening · 20/12/2020 16:38

She has annual leave booked now anyway.

OP posts:
treening · 20/12/2020 16:40

She already knew this was a possibility as a colleague's girlfriend tested positive.

OP posts:
teenagetantrums · 20/12/2020 16:41

She should turn app of at work. Surely she is wearing a mask and behind a screen. We have to turn our app off at work we wear ppe but the app doesn't know that.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/12/2020 16:42

Costa tell their staff not to have the app ? Shock how very reassuring.

treening · 20/12/2020 16:42

Yes she is but in the space they're in it is impossible to socially distance.

OP posts:
treening · 20/12/2020 16:43

Also PPE will not do much if you are in a non ventilated space for a prolonged period of time. People assume they are protected. They aren't.

Can anyone answer this question?
A friend has shown me a screenshot of the app that says they need to self isolate for 11 more days until 29th December.
I'm convinced they're having people on, as it wouldn't say 11 days would it?

treening · 20/12/2020 16:47

It seems to tell some people 14 days and others 10

OP posts:
soworried321 · 20/12/2020 17:21

I thought it was 10 days for everyone from 14th ish of December?

gamerchick · 20/12/2020 17:22

The app isn't valid anyway.

Ifonlyicouldliveinmypjs · 20/12/2020 17:25

I know someone who got an alert telling them they needed to isolate for 1 day!!! What on earth is the point of that?

Bollss · 20/12/2020 17:27

So do the NHS

AIUI most employers in similar are doing that else all the staff would forever be off sick isolating because of the app.
treening · 20/12/2020 17:40

Yup

Why are people saying the app isn't valid, I can't find that info anywhere? Anyone got a link?

OP posts:
treening · 20/12/2020 17:43

NHS doesn't seem to agree that it isn't valid.

I'm not sure it's the same in all trusts but ours tests staff based on a slightly wider range of symptoms than the main three and does robust contact tracing and isolating of all high risk contacts as well as some analysis of where and why those contacts are taking place.

That probably negates the need for having the app on in work. I doubt that's happening in Costa or in most workplaces.

treening · 20/12/2020 17:50

No but I mean she has to isolate because the app has told her to right, even though no contact from NHS test and trace?

OP posts:
Bollss · 20/12/2020 17:51

I think legally you don't have to isolate if the app tells you to whereas you legally do have to if they ring you

treening · 20/12/2020 17:53

That seems bananas!

OP posts:
FabbyMagic · 20/12/2020 17:53

Yes she has to isolate according to the rules but it’s not a legal requirement as it is when test and trace call/text/email you directly. Through the app is all anonymous.
