Going on holiday

Not sure how to create a poll So if you could please share your opinion.

Our holiday to a very safe destination had not been cancelled. Flight still going ahead.
We had been isolating for over a week and paid for expensive pre travel PCRs for all of us.
If our PCRs are all negative, why should we not go?
How is this fair?!?
I worked from home and hardly had seen any people all year.
We had not been anywhere for the whole year.
Desperate for some sunshine and walks.

My rationale is this - we tested negative. Why should we not go?

I'm going to say if tests are neg and you are still allowed to travel, then go. But all the naysayers will be along in a moment.

Faultymain5 · 20/12/2020 11:41

When I say allowed to travel I mean to the hist country. Not our temporary rules.

Hotcuppatea · 20/12/2020 11:41

Go and enjoy yourself. Months of fucking misery here to come and your holiday will help you to get through it.

Coffeeandcocopops · 20/12/2020 11:41

If in tier 4 then no.

yeOldeTrout · 20/12/2020 11:44

I would go.

lickingintolockdown · 20/12/2020 11:45

Definitely go - having recently escaped for a holiday I can highly recommend. We tested before we went and the destination had rates far lower than our tier 1 spots so risk was pretty minimal. Now on a count down to our next holiday!

boilinthebagrice · 20/12/2020 11:46

You may be negative now, but you'll need to get transport to the airport, travel through the airport, and travel on a plane, mixing with other members of the public who potentially could have the virus. You could get symptoms in the holiday destination, potentially needing hospitalisation over there. Then you have to do the same journey home.
I know all these are potential "what ifs" and we take risks going to the supermarket or sending our kids to school these days, but there is more at stake travelling abroad.

I'm the nicest possible way, it isn't wise to travel abroad just now

LovingLen · 20/12/2020 11:48

Go if you are in tiers 1-3, if you are in 4 you can't

Looneytune253 · 20/12/2020 11:51

Really, can you not see why it's not appropriate to travel right now? Everyone is negative until they catch it. You may have caught it already even after your test and you wouldn't know. The virus won't survive if we all stay put and it's incredibly irresponsible to even consider a holiday. The sooner people stay put and drive the numbers down the sooner we can all get back to normal and have decent holidays. I think we'd all give our right arms for a decent holiday after the year we've all had but we won't

elsaesmeralda · 20/12/2020 11:53

Think I heard on the briefing tier 4 are not allowed abroad so depends where you are

BEANBAG765 · 20/12/2020 11:54

Re transport to the airport- we are driving ourselves in our own car.
Everyone on that plane is meant to have tested before boarding.
I think it is more risky have a stroll in my local Waitrose.

You need to consider getting home too, countries could cancel flights. Some friends were stuck abroad for over a week back in March.

Lipz · 20/12/2020 12:17

I'm not in the UK but I am listening to the news and reading here, so I'm not 100% re the rules. What does your government say regarding travel to another country from tier 4?

When are you meant to be going?

What does the DFA say?

BEANBAG765 · 20/12/2020 12:23

Obviously we are Tier 4.
So we could have traveled yesterday but we should not travel tomorrow!
Does not make any sense.

ladylunchalot · 20/12/2020 12:23

Op, where are you travelling to? What tier are you currently in?

Gooseygoosey12345 · 20/12/2020 12:25

I think if you're also going to test before you come home then fine. Also you should isolate when you come back. If you're going to do those things then fine, otherwise no.

Cornettoninja · 20/12/2020 12:25

If you can physically go do what you feel best but I would be wary of justifying aloud that you feel you deserve to go. It just gets peoples backs up - we’ve all got our hardships this year.

BEANBAG765 · 20/12/2020 12:29

We can isolate on our return. That is not a problem.
Kids are not back to school before 11th.

I know a couple who travelled to Tenerife in past 3 weeks - just the 2 of them for a couple of nights - leaving older teens at home,

Negative tests pre and post. 4 days after getting back 4 of their family testing positive and ill. Ambulance called out for one family member.

DianaT1969 · 20/12/2020 12:31

Go. Isolate when you get back. Enjoy, it's been a bad year.

AnyFucker · 20/12/2020 12:32

In tier 4 areas there is a higher proportion of the new variant virus.

So no, you should not be risking spreading that

DailyPotion · 20/12/2020 12:33

I think go, provided you won't need/expect help to get back if things kick off while you're away, if for example your planned flight home is cancelled. This thing seems to be moving everso quickly and places consided safe/open now may not be by the end of your holiday.

Frazzled2207 · 20/12/2020 12:34

if flight not cancelled and you stand to lose the money then I would go. Is it a package holiday? If not I would worry about my return flight being cancelled. But if it is a package holiday and the outward flight is going, they will get you home.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 20/12/2020 12:34

Go and enjoy yourself. Follow the rules and stay safe.
