Think I have new strain of virus

lifebytheby · 20/12/2020 10:10

Has anyone in London/the south east had this new strain of Covid? I think I have it.

Feel very flu-y. Headache, achy muscles, tired, cough, sore throat, chest feels heavy and I'm breathing slowly.

I'm isolating and waiting for home test which I ordered off the gov website yesterday.

Flu

DailyPotion · 20/12/2020 12:14
@itsgettingweird yep I was convinced I was getting diabetes aswell... that scared me more than covid as my ‘typical’ covid symptoms weren’t too bad. It was the headache, thirst and nausea that was horrible.... all my skin dried out and my lips all cracked.... it was really odd
Thirst! Yes! It's the first time I've heard that, but the thirst has been the worst me. With the endless headache and nausea as well, it's like a 2 week "I'm never drinking again" hangover.

CodenameVillanelle · 20/12/2020 12:15
@Kissthepastrychef that’s really interesting ! I had covid a few weeks ago and my symptoms were runny nose, loss of taste and smell, headache, tight chest, severe nausea and unquenchable thirst.

I wonder why our symptom list is not the same... I carried on as normal with the runny nose and headache and then ordered a test on day three when I lost my taste and smell.... surely not having a comprehensive list of symptoms is contributing to the spread.
As I was travelling by bus for those two days before I suspected it was covid.
It's never been the aim that every case of coronavirus was picked up. If that were the case then we would have free testing for everyone in schools and workplaces on a weekly basis, testing for anyone exposed to covid and their households etc. The system can't cope with the amount of testing needed to actually identify the majority of cases.

Yohoheaveho · 20/12/2020 12:17

so sorry to hear that you're ill OP🙏
I hope you feel better soon💙
please let us know if you find out for sure what the strain is!

MrsGrindah · 20/12/2020 12:38

This is not just COVID. It’s M&S COVID....

Dannn · 20/12/2020 12:39

Brilliant, thanks for this 😂
I hope you feel better soon.

MadameBlobby · 20/12/2020 12:40

You have no way of knowing what strain you have FGS

LindaEllen · 20/12/2020 12:45

I hope you feel better soon, but you don't know you have covid, let alone that particular strain. Nor do you know you had covid in January (in fact it's almost certain you didn't).

People seem to be forgetting that there are lots of viruses around, certainly at this time of the year. When I had it, it felt like mild flu. I was actually more unwell when I had flu in 2018 as I could barely get out of bed then and hardly ate a thing for 2 weeks. If I'd had that this year, I would have been tested for covid because it's what's on everyone's radar at the moment.

But you almost certainly had a different virus in January. There are LOTS with similar symptoms. Even now, people are getting colds, flu and other viruses that aren't covid, but that tick all of the boxes for symptoms. People are even saying tests are wrong (I know some might be) because they have all the symptoms. No. There are lots of viruses with those symptoms!!

Perhaps you do have covid now, but you have no idea if it's the new strain. You won't even find this out if you get tested. But you should get tested, for sure.

CodenameVillanelle · 20/12/2020 12:50

I got ill in March after two colleagues dropped with covid (later confirmed with antibody tests) but my antibody test came back negative. Either I didn't have it or I had it mildly but either way getting covid symptoms in early 2020 doesn't mean you can't get covid now.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 20/12/2020 13:05

"I think I have the new strain" is the new "we deffo had it earlier this year, obviously didnt get tested but fairly certain" isnt it?

Hope you feel better soon OP. There are always colds going round at christmas time.

lovelemoncurd · 20/12/2020 13:05

I had those symptoms when I got Covid back in March. It doesn't mean it's a new strain!

Person posting on social media claims they're not on social media. Hmm

Mamascoven · 20/12/2020 13:13

@MG2020

You just made a thread about this. We get the point now.

It's an internet forum from the early 00s. Not Facebook.

You lot are bonkers. If OP dismissed her symptoms as a common cold, told herself to "dial down the theatrics" and went on her merry way infecting people, she'd be lynched. Instead she dares to post her worries for some support and gets lynched instead. 🤷‍♀️

@titchy

Thanks for being a twat. I'm not on social media.

No one has told her not to get tested, have they?

Kissthepastrychef · 20/12/2020 14:40

@CodenameVillanelle that's all very well but had I not got tested I could potentially have taken out a large percentage of 999 call takers and radio dispatchers for a key emergency service as I would have carried on going into work and passing it around.

Not so funny that, is it ?

Kissthepastrychef · 20/12/2020 14:45

So not everyone gets the ''no taste or smell'' symptoms then

I didn't, I didn't have a cough or a temperature or any loss of taste. I kept checking, to the extent of taking my temperature regularly as I felt rough but I didn't have one and therefore put it down to just feeling stressed and rubbish.

Mumof3andlovingit · 20/12/2020 14:50

I have family that had confirmed covid back in may-June. They all had headaches and 2/5 didn’t lose their sense of smell but taste was a little off.

Bluntness100 · 20/12/2020 14:50

Op do you suffer from health anxiety? Just in JAN we were just finding out about Covid and you thought you had it, and now we have just got a second strain announced and you immediately think you have it again. The timing being fairly immediate for both

Do you suffer from health anxiety or a level of hypochondria?

Mumof3andlovingit · 20/12/2020 14:53

I think she most probably has covid. Her symptoms sound like she’s got it. However, none of us can tell her if it’s the new highly infectious strain. Only a scientist can do that.
RavingAnnie · 20/12/2020 15:40

Mumsnet is definitely social media. Just so you know.

Sorry you have covid symptoms. There is evidence you can catch it more than once, new variant or no new variant. Hope you are ok 💐💐
