Think I have new strain of virus

lifebytheby · 20/12/2020 10:10

Has anyone in London/the south east had this new strain of Covid? I think I have it.

Feel very flu-y. Headache, achy muscles, tired, cough, sore throat, chest feels heavy and I'm breathing slowly.

I'm isolating and waiting for home test which I ordered off the gov website yesterday.

I had exactly those symptoms last week . I tested negative for covid though- so it was just a commonplace flu-like virus.
Didnt matter anyway. I wasnt going anywhere or seeing anyone no matter what it was called.

Still beats me where I caught the damned thing though.

MrsGrindah · 20/12/2020 10:44

We are just having a giggle in shit times. Nobody is being nasty.

DailyPotion · 20/12/2020 10:45

What makes you think it's the new strain?

I have the same symptoms and a positive test. I think I might have this new extra catchy strain because, according to the guidelines, I haven't been close enough to anyone to catch it. Yes, I realise there were never any guarantees, but I really have been very careful and at work, no one else has it.

But I acknowledge, I'm also looking for a reason it's not my fault, which is ridiculous but it's where we are with all the blame people want to throw about.

Hardbackwriter · 20/12/2020 10:45

Ah, we really are back to March, with people self-diagnosing themselves on social media to try and be part of the drama.

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 10:45

@Medievalist

It’s just theatrics

What is?

The OP. She might have a dressing gown of doom.

Someone we know was a fool and took a lift with a workmate, 7 minute life and never wore a mask, both of them did not wear one. The drives spouse has covid so the lift giver rang the person we knew and they tested positive a few days ago but have not passed it on to their spouse and children and not have any symptoms. That person is just turned 65.

So a fe mins in a car no mask, no open windows and travelling with an asympotmatic person, the others can easily get inffected.

You can become ill 10 days after infection they say and be ok until then an i hope the person we know gets over this with no problems. They are 65 otherwise helathy no medical consditons but their spouse is 71.

Unless you live in a sealed pod, we’re all unlucky enough to catch things.

They could have caught it at work.

I can confidently internet diagnose that you have a case of Deep Misunderstanding.

Fortunately it can be cured easily by not using Social Media as your source of information.

treening · 20/12/2020 10:53

How would you know? It's not got different symptoms.

Kissthepastrychef · 20/12/2020 10:56

@Youngatheart00 if you've been waiting since Thursday you're likely to be negative, I think they prioritise positive results for notification. I got my positive result within 15 hours of taking the test, in the middle of the night

vdbfamily · 20/12/2020 11:02

the only symptom I am aware of that seems more common currently is nausea. I have had 5 staff off over last few weeks with Covid and 4 of them had recurring bouts of nausea.

MaxNormal · 20/12/2020 11:12

You really can't tell which strain you've got OP Grin

lifebytheby · 20/12/2020 11:13

Ok so I should have said I had Covid back in January... well fairly certain it was as we live in central London, husband travels for work to Asia regularly, and I had all of the classic symptoms. I even went to the GP thinking I had a chest infection at the time and remember thinking I've never experienced illness like this before.

So now I'm thinking I had one strain, and now I've been infected again?

Thanks for being a twat. I'm not on social media.

You don't even know you had it back in January. So many people are convinced they had it back then but realistically it presents very similarly to a million other viruses.

Possible

No way to know

You might just have had a shitty winter chest infection and you might have one now

So please consider that in case you need antibiotics, don’t just assume Covid. I hope you feel better regardless.

Cam2020 · 20/12/2020 11:15

Sounds exactly the same as the last strain Hmm

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 20/12/2020 11:16

"Fairly certain" does not mean you had it in January.

donquixotedelamancha · 20/12/2020 11:22

That's not 'fairly certain', that's possible but unlikely given the numbers at the time.

So now I'm thinking I had one strain, and now I've been infected again?

You can get covid twice, whether it's a slightly different strain or not.

Covid has very varied symptoms similar to the other human coronaviruses and hundreds of rhinoviruses and influenza viruses; all of which are very common this time of year.

Even if you have a fever and a cough it's still more likely to be one of those. I've got all those symptoms and my test was negative.

That doesn't mean you should be careless- just get a test and stay indoors.

MrsBrunch · 20/12/2020 11:25

The headache was not a symptom of the original virus. It was cough and/or temperature and then they added loss of smell and taste.

The headache is fairly new and I've heard loads of people talking about having a really bad headache that painkillers didn't touch. I think it is a new symptom and it's a symptom of the new strain.

Hardbackwriter · 20/12/2020 11:28

I love that the OP was like 'no no no you don't understand this is the second time I've diagnosed myself with the thing in the headlines that day so that proves I'm right'

Kissthepastrychef · 20/12/2020 11:30

@MrsBrunch the headache has been one of the USA symptoms right from the start, there appear to actually be 8 symptoms not just the 3 we have been peddling.

Incorrect. Loads of people I know who tested positive in May and June had a terrible headache.

Please don't speculate.
