So I got home yesterday to find that I a staff member I work fairly closely with in my primary school has tested positive. Obviously my dad will no longer to join us as his support bubble which makes me sad but we've all got our problems.

Can I cook for the family?
Wrap presents for the rest of the family?
Bake?
Make the Christmas crackers?

Or do I just shut myself away upstairs?

As long as you don’t leave your house/garden (and don’t have guests in) you can do what you want.

You are meant to reduce your interactions even with your household. Because if you have got it, do you want them all to get it too?

If it's unrealistic to separate yourself, then open the windows and clean high touch surfaces more frequently. You can do all the things you list, but at the greatest distance from others that you can happily manage

My son is also a teacher and was in the same position. He spent most of the ten days in the spare room keeping out of everyone’s way as much as possible.

I'd try and do some things to reduce the risk of others getting ill if you have it. So use a separate hand towel (or bathroom if you have one), wipe down high touch points more frequently, ventilate the rooms more. With presents and crackers, wrap them today not on Christmas Eve and put them somewhere out of the way. Cooking should be fine, heat kills the virus, could always get someone else to serve the food.

Sounds a sensible compromise. Will take to my bedroom and send my husband elsewhere!

Being 56 and asthmatic I could do without this - schools are not safe places!
