500 pounds bonus

All nhs workers will be receiving 500 pounds each bonus. Someone on fb who has been shielding since March, she was minor Health problems. Not stopped her drinking and smoking. She’s bragging she will be receiving this money for doing sweet fa! This makes me so angry. Surely the bonus should only be given to frontline workers? Very unfair. No doubt people will disagree with me. So this women gets 500 pounds then carers not working for the nhs who have worked in the thick of it gets nothing.

I agree that she shouldn't have the bonus, surely she must have more than minor health problems though to be shielding?

I think it’s only in Scotland isn’t it? I don’t know really. There are so many things unfair in this pandemic. I’m frontline nhs and a single parent. My childcare bill went up by 600 a month from the first day of the first lockdown as my parents could no longer help and my salary reduced as I could no longer work unsociable hours. It was so frightening early on, putting my child in childcare and both of us going into risk every day but as time has gone on, I’ve realised we are the lucky ones. My job is secure and having to go to work and nursery has been protective of mine and my child’s mental health. I’d rather be doing what I’ve done than be shielded with the health difficulties of your friend.

Its in Scotland.

Much unfairness this year- are you going to write a post about every single thing?

Athinginitself · 19/12/2020 21:39

It's only in scotland. If shes shielding she has a health condition that makes her significantly at risk of covid. To be honest I think there are bigger things to get your knickers in a twist about right now.

I’m an agency nurse. Frontline in Nhs hospitals. I get nothing. Plus no leave pay, no pay when I couldn’t work as DH had covid (5 weeks), or when I did. And no carers leave when my young dc had to isolate.
Same risks, less job security, no support, no thanks.

Nope. Nobody was shielding with minor health problems. What shite.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 19/12/2020 23:36

How would they draw up a list of the 'deserving' though?

For example, I have two friends: one a nurse who has been on a very quiet ward throwing, one an Occupational Therapist who was put onto a Covid ward back in March as she couldn't do her usual community-based work.

It's an administrative nightmare really. I don't think it would be possible to figure out who worked where etc.
