Working Christmas Day

Can anyone help with this situation...

My lovely Mum is working Christmas Day this year (she works in a care home and will have had the vaccination by then).

We were planning to form our bubble on Christmas Eve and have our “Christmas Day” then.

Is this allowed? What about all the nurses, midwives, etc., who will be working Christmas Day?

According to the rules no it isn't allowed. It's one day - Christmas Day - only.

Does she live alone? If she does then you can be her support bubble as that hasn’t been affected by the rules.

If not then technically this is against the rules but common sense would say that it makes no difference if you have your Christmas Day on Christmas Eve provided you don’t then go on to form another bubble on Christmas Day.

In your position I would have Christmas Day on Christmas Eve (albeit discreetly if she isn’t alone)

RE the vaccination; I believe this only becomes fully effective 7days after the second dose so she wouldn’t be fully protected by Christmas (just mentioning this in case it is a driving force in your decision)

Well, technically it’s no longer allowed, but I’d say “fuck em” and keep your plans.

We wouldn’t see anyone else on Christmas Day!

I just feel for those who work on Christmas Day and always make do with having their Christmas on another day.
There was a lot of clapping but now they’ve been overlooked!

I'm working xmas day (midwife) we'll have our christmas day after I get home (will wake early to do presents with those living here before I go)

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 19/12/2020 19:55

Just do it! As I said, discreetly if needs be but do it!
If you follow all the rules and treat Christmas Eve as your only bubble day then it’s literally the same risk level as if you were able to spend Christmas Day together if she wasn’t working.

I'd keep my plans.
