Worried about DH temp still high after 12 days

He’s had symptoms now for 12 days. Had a positive test. Spoke to the GP about day 8 as he has a history of pneumonia and his chest was feeling tight. The GP prescribed doxycycline which he has been taking. He still has quite a nasty cough, is very lethargic and off his food. His temp however rarely drops below 38 and he gets the shakes when it goes above 39.

We have an oximeter which we use all the time and his levels are always fine. Is this just something we need to ride out with Covid or should we be seeking further help.

Thanks

Hope he feels better and gets home soon.

HairyFloppins · 20/12/2020 12:18

Thank you for your reassuring words.

He has suffered with pneumonia in the past and has lung scarring.

It sometimes takes a few different antibiotics to find one to treat his infections.

Hope all those that have been poorly are on the mend now.

Aw bless him, I hope he gets home very soon

SchrodingersUnicorn · 20/12/2020 12:27

Don't panic. When I had it I had secondary pneumonia and the temperature lasted 3 weeks.
Be warned the recovery time could be long though. Flowers

@HairyFloppins
sending lots of good thoughts. must be terrifying for the children. Hopefully a short hospital stay is what he needed to get him properly recovering before Christmas. Hope the rest of you aren't also ill.

balloon27 · 20/12/2020 12:39

Sending lots of love hope he is home and on the mend soonThanks

HairyFloppins · 20/12/2020 12:41

Thank you all

Frazzled we all had covid too but we are hopefully all on the mend.

Just heard from him again, doesn't know what meds they have given him, just takes it - typical man lol.

But he has his own room and he is being very well looked after.

Sending wishes for a speedy recovery. How are the DC today?

HairyFloppins · 21/12/2020 10:09

Thanks for the well wishes.

DC are fine thanks howmany. They know dad is on the mend now.

They have took him off oxygen this morning to see how he gets on. Fingers crossed he will be home before Friday.

That's brilliant news that the kids know their dad is on the mend. Even if he has to go back on oxygen they may be able to reduce it a bit and that's a step in the right direction.

Schonerlebnis · 21/12/2020 11:54

Agree @Frazzled2207 he may be on and off the oxygen. Or just need it at night, sats can drop when you're asleep.
Hopefully he's getting physio too and they can teach him ways of clearing secretions and breathing more effectively, dealing with anxiety etc In my experience patients really start to improve when they are able to sit out, mobilise even if it's only a bit. I had one patient on high flow, I was really dubious about sitting him out but the physios were a bit more gungho optimistic. He did so well and it really gave him a psychological boost.

HairyFloppins · 22/12/2020 13:19

Just an update to say he's home. He has antibiotics and dexamethasone. Hope he stays recovering well.

Thanks all those that wished him well.

That's great news! Hope he's feeling better.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 22/12/2020 19:37

Fabulous news! Hope he feels well enough to enjoy Christmas.

(And don't forget to pour yourself a stiff Gin or equivalent - it's hell being the partner of someone properly poorly, especially if you're also trying to comfort the kids and keep the Christmas show on the road. You'll need some recovery time too).

Indoctro · 22/12/2020 20:17

Fabulous news and in time for Christmas too

Hope you all have a great Xmas and that he recovers quickly x
