Things are just getting worse and worse and January is going to be hell

@ElephantWhaleRabbit

Definitely worse than March. At least March had a sort of grim novelty value and a vague spirit of optimism. I’m completely pessimistic about the future to be honest.
I agree with this.

In March it was a novelty and there was a kind of 'blitz spirit' and 'let's get through this' energy. Plus brilliant weather.

Now those financially impacted have already used up their savings...are facing an impossible couple of months with houses at stake and tax bills for the self-employed.

Everyone's MH reserves are already low and I think a lot of people were relying on Christmas to give them the boost they needed to grit their teeth and get through Jan & Feb.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2020 21:06

Anyone know which level we're in? In fact hands up if you remember the levels.

But I’m concerned the vaccine has dropped out if the news. They’ve done 780000?

I'm sure Boris said 380,000 vaccinated so far.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/12/2020 21:09

That’s what l meant!!!! But it’s still not many.

starfish4 · 19/12/2020 21:10

My lovely Auntie and Uncle had their vaccinations today. Haven't seen them for a year and this gave us something to look forward to, ie we could meet up after we've had ours. Feels like back to square one and again no easy way out. Dreading going into work tomorrow. I can't imagine the atmosphere is going to be good.

willsantausesantatize · 19/12/2020 21:12

I will be in 'tier four ' at midnight. South East area and living with the new mutant strain on the rampage.
I will stick to the rules as not much else I can do!

In some sense I think I find this easier to bear as someone who has been suicidal several times before (bipolar disorder).

Because I know no matter how dark, how hopeless or how desperately shit things might seem it always gets better.

Always

Bargebill19 · 19/12/2020 21:17

@StealthPolarBear

I’m in level Baileys-in-coffee. 🤣

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2020 21:23

No I mean the joint bioaecurity council levels. They were going to help immensely.

Is that the thing that looked a bit like the Nando's heat-meter?

I’d agree with this totally.

Yeah they are the ones that got dumped very quietly about a week after they were released.
MoirasRoses · 19/12/2020 22:10

I don’t really feel any worse today. I’m sat here with Covid. Thankfully mild. I’m in the North. We’ve not been able to see anyone since August. We couldn’t go to the pub or for a meal with anyone. At one point, we couldn’t even meet in the park. No-one cared. Tier 4 is basically lockdown. We all got through November. You can do it again. Just gotta crack on. It’s certainly not worse than March. There is so much hope with the vaccine.

Christmas was silly. Everyone should have seen it coming a mile off. I never planned to see anyone. It’s shit. I miss my family, I miss my friends SO much but it’s one year. It will be so much better next year.

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 19/12/2020 22:18

Its worse than March. At least in March there was hope, an end in sight, sunshine and cheap Easter Eggs.

Now everyone has got lockdown fatigue.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2020 22:27

Moiras hope you're feeling fully well soon. I am also in the North and agree that other than outside we've not been allowed to meet anyone since summer. It's not even personal Christmas plans that are getting to me. I think it's the thought of January.

This book really got me through some tough times. Lovely wee passage.

SomelikeitHoth · 19/12/2020 22:40

Only thing keeping him going is his climbing. Dreading if that has to close again. He had MH issues and it's brilliant therapy

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 19/12/2020 22:59

I think this is coinciding with Brexit. A way to bury shit news

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 23:01

I honestly don't think that's influencing this.

No I don’t think so
IsabellaMozzarella · 19/12/2020 23:03

I know I'm being extreme but I think I would have preferred dictatorship style lockdown for 2 months than this rolling on shit show

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2020 23:09

Today was a positive day in that my parents had the first of their two COVID jabs, then quickly turned negative when Tier 4 siblings due to come on Boxing Day are now no longer able to. Looks like we'll be swapping gifts in mid January maybe?

How's everyone for loo roll?

Stillgoings · 19/12/2020 23:11

I'm scared at today's press conference and the sudden u-turn. I'm scared that the death rates in Germany have shot up when they were always so low. I'm scared because a friend's mum is in hospital fighting for her life and another friend's friend has just lost her husband. I was pleased that Chris Whitty said he didn't think things were as bad as in March, but otherwise I am gloomy AF

Waspnest · 19/12/2020 23:13

No I feel more hopeful than in March. I agree with Chris Whitty, we know so much more about the virus than we did, vaccines are on the way and in a few days time the days will start getting longer again. But then I'm very much a go-with-the-flow sort of person. Last year was so shit because of parental illness that I am enjoying the relative calm on that score in 2020.

MadameBlobby · 19/12/2020 23:21

Don’t give a shit about January and the numbers. I’m so over the whole thing.
