I'm done. We've been isolating ready to see my parents and now we can't.

This is the third time now we've had to cancel plans last min and I'm sick of it! Totally sick of it!

OP posts:
JustDanceAddict · 19/12/2020 22:53

Why the fuck is it ok for some to break rules when most people have had to restrict themselves for best part of a year now?
Makes me sick and that’s what I’m fed up of.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 22:54

THEY ARE AWARE

If they were, they would not be pursuing this route.

They’re caving to immediate pressure.

They’re shoring up so many problems for the longer term it’s not even funny.

Jellykat · 19/12/2020 22:54

Its not logical i'm afraid. DS who lives in tier 2 cant drive here (county with low rates) for Christmas day, because hes 2.5 hours away.. but someone in my next County can, even though their rates are and have been consistently high.
Its not distance related if youre in a car and don't stop, its more where you are going to and from, and the rates in those areas thats important, surely?

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 22:55

Yes, I suspect the people who wanted harder lockdowns will be most upset at the costs. ..when it's clear that the costs are lowest for the countries that lock down hard

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 22:56

Just because people look at facts and come up with an answer you don't like, does not make you right

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 22:56

What like Spain and Italy? Confused

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 22:57

Politicians don’t tend to think longer term. Why would they? They only care about the next election.

Surely that’s obvious?

Dongdingdong · 19/12/2020 22:58

Totally agree. The scaremongering is also off the scale. We have flu pandemics every single winter that kill thousands but we didn’t shut everything down or accuse people of killing their relatives. For a virus that more than 99% will recover from, we are taking very extreme action.

Well said.

southeastdweller · 19/12/2020 22:59

@midgebabe

Yes people do care

The ons are monitoring suicide rates
They have not increased
The scientists are concerned that rates might go up as things get better
So mental,health is being considered
It's clearly not as fragile as people think

Suicide numbers for this shit year haven’t been published yet as far as I know.

Worth repeating again. 100%
midgebabe · 19/12/2020 23:01

Flu kills thousands

Not hundreds of thousands

Yes I know hundreds of thousands haven't (yet) died but that's because of all the restrictions

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 19/12/2020 23:01

My eyes feel weird, I think I’m just gonna pop up to Barnard Castle for my Christmas dinner

TheSunIsStillShining · 19/12/2020 23:01

@southeastdweller
For Q1/Q2/Q3 they have. And they are lower than prev years. Especially kid/teen suicides.
ONS have it on their site.

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 23:03

The numbers are being monitored and there is not evidence of increase

They believe this is because the additions caused by lockdown have been balanced by a reduction in some work stresses

And a simple way to see..look at the average deaths in a year, and the deaths this year, covid and none covid

It's pretty clear that despite all the restrictions, covid deaths way exceed suicides

Notyouraverageguy · 19/12/2020 23:04

How can you all be so stupid!!! Tier 4 has been put into place because of people with this attitude. The rules are there to be adhered to and stop the spread. If you break the rules then the UK will continue to be in and out of lockdowns. I couldn't care less, if 'you're done' or ' I've spent loads on Xmas, I'm gonna go', when one of your family becomes ill or heaven forbid dies then you will then feel guilty that you signed the death certificate but not doing as you were told to by the government. Yes it sucks! Yes its crappy! But think of those people who have lost people, their lively hood and income. Think of those (like me) who have mental health issues and have to constantly be alone now. I do have a support bubble person but we limit the amount of time as the other person has a life, work and family. Its completley selfish of those who decide to break the rules and ignore all the advice!!!!

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 23:04

The longer term is not clear at all. We know that poverty, lack of opportunities, lack of hope have terrible implications.

You can kid yourself all you want.

Utter bollocks! Calls to mental health lines have trebled in recent months and suicide rates are significantly higher. Get you facts straight before shooting your mouth off!!!! Angry
LittleMimi · 19/12/2020 23:05

I don’t get what’s irresponsible about self isolating for weeks and then going to see a relative who has done the same thing. People on this thread are getting angry at those people and blaming them for causing the rise in cases. Whereas there are people mixing all the time through legal means but still transmitting the virus in restaurants, schools, churches etc, but they’re fine because the government has said so.

TheWichitaWineOne · 19/12/2020 23:06

Because Germany and Italy’s health services (the latter widely acknowledged to be one of the best in the world) have fared so much better - not

I wasn't making a comparison. I was just stating what I believe to be true about the NHS after a decade of the Tories. Comparison is irrelevant for the purpose of my comment.

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 23:07

Long term is being thought about .

What you have to compare is the long term impact of current actions compared to the long term impact of other actions, including inaction as an option

And the answer is believed to be that action is better than no action

Tough, get over it,. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that people have missed something or ignored something or are just nasty horrid people

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 23:09

Long term is being thought about

Where is your evidence for that?

Because I’m seeing ... nada

Dongdingdong · 19/12/2020 23:10

If you break the rules then the UK will continue to be in and out of lockdowns.

Oh sod off. It’s very apparent that lockdowns aren’t working. We locked down for November and just over two weeks later we’re in this shite situation. Enough is enough.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 23:10

And the answer is believed to be that action is better than no action

Lockdowns are not the only action available you know.

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 23:11

You can't see what you don't want to see

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 23:11

You can't see what you don't want to see

Provide some evidence and you might have a point.
