I'm done. We've been isolating ready to see my parents and now we can't.

This is the third time now we've had to cancel plans last min and I'm sick of it! Totally sick of it!

I think you can join a bubble if you’re single so it can be you, your dad and brother

bettxmascake · 19/12/2020 19:14

@Bewareoftheblob

Are some of you listening to yourselves? It is a virus. It's spreading, which is what they do. It is NOT that dangerous. But the government has managed us into a mindset that makes us blame ourselves for deaths of loved ones? What the actual fuck??
Tell that to the families of the c. 50 thousand people who have died from it.
janetmendoza · 19/12/2020 19:15

To Keatingfive his own Dad died during lockdown. He couldn't see him as obvs couldn't take the risk of taking covid onto the ward. Then of course we endured the 10 person funeral. So yup don't see your parents. You and they are no more special than anyone else. See them when you and they are vaccinated

CattyP89 · 19/12/2020 19:18

@janetmendoza

God some selfish selfish people on this thread.Dh has helped so many coronavirus patients this year. 14 died at our hospital yesterday alone. His is giving up his day off tomorrow to vaccinate the elderly, so they don't have to wait one day longer than necessary. And yet in the back of his ambulance come new year will be a load of selfish wankers who met up at Christmas and have caught it entirely self inflicted! He will continue to treat them with care and respect god knows why.
It’s very very unfair. My partner works in a supermarket (not comparing roles at all as he isn’t nhs so no where near as important) he’s had people in his face he’s been spat at things thrown at him etc he comes home worried he’ll make our 7month ill. But hey never mind the workers never mind their mental health. When will people stop and think this isn’t just about them!
TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2020 19:19

See them when you and they are vaccinated

They may be gone before that. So I’m making up my own mind thanks very much.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 19/12/2020 19:19

I’m in tier 2 and we are keeping to ourselves. It’s just a day, have Christmas when things are better, not in the middle of a fucking pandemic. Selfish behaviour will break the nhs.

VulvaPerson · 19/12/2020 19:19

@m0therofdragons

It’s so depressing reading how many people on these threads want to ignore them rules. Do any of you work in a hospital? I very much doubt anyone dealing with the reality would advocate breaking the rules. Last week we had to send out a plea to clinicians to come into work on their off days because the hospital wasn’t safe to run on the number of staff we had. This is serious stuff.
My sister works in a hospital (her ward was converted to a 'covid ward' in the last peak also) and is massively pissed off with this. Specifically because she swapped xmas day for boxing day (though is in 'late' on boxing day still apparently) as she had planned seeing people on boxing day instead, and is now stuck working xmas day with no opportunity to see family at all now. Seems many she works with are raging also. So no, this is not NHS staff v everyone else.
janetmendoza · 19/12/2020 19:20

So sorry to hear that Catty. Disgusting behavior. Nephew also works in Tesco- god knows what it will be like with the Christmas rush in the Tier 4 areas. I wish them all well x

Yeah I'm worried about this too.
TheGremlinsAreComing · 19/12/2020 19:21

@Twizbe

I love how because I'm upset by this it's somehow my fault because I didn't follow the rules.

I've followed every rule we've been asked to follow. We've not left our area. I'm a SAHP so not been at work, I've been at home doing everything asked of me.

But yeah, because I'm one who is upset it's all my fault.

Fuck you

Well said.

Sick and tired of hearing 'well if people just followed the rules..' with absolutely no clue who they're speaking to, what they've sacrificed or how they conduct their lives. Pretty sure I heard the same crap rolled out during lockdown 1, where in actual fact it came to light over 3/4 of the population abided by the rules. And oh look, STILL in lockdown. Fucking enough already.

toocold54 · 19/12/2020 19:22

I’m sorry your partner is having such a crap time. I know NHS staff are very important but I hope that this pandemic has shown people how much we rely on shop workers and cleaners too!

ememem84 · 19/12/2020 19:24

I’m in jersey and our rules have changed here again.

We can only see other households on Christmas Day and Boxing Day day. Until further notice. Work from home. Restaurants bars cafes only allowed to do takeaways.

However. Hair dressers beauty salons tatttoo parlours shops all open still. Flights are still coming into the island.

Friends are booking hair appointments at the same time so they can catch up over coffee and hair. This is allowed.

People are meeting in shops to hand over Christmas presents.

One pub in our main town is advertising takeaway mulled wine and sandwiches so people can have winter picnics with family and friends.

toocold54 · 19/12/2020 19:25

Pretty sure I heard the same crap rolled out during lockdown 1, where in actual fact it came to light over 3/4 of the population abided by the rules. And oh look, STILL in lockdown. Fucking enough already.

But that’s due to the fact that we still had so many freedoms and people were mixing too much whether it was against the rules or not but places like Wuhan that were on a very strict lockdown got rid of the virus really quickly.

Jakey056 · 19/12/2020 19:25

@JinglingHellsBells
Thanks for your reply.

"No, we hold our nerve for another 2-3 months until the most vulnerable have had the vaccine. They are the ones who will die otherwise.The young are rarely affected (people in their 20s-40s.)

Some of us who are locked down now like me have very elderly parents, 100s miles away, who I can't see and wouldn't see, but my worry is that they will die (of something else) before I can see them.

If people stuck to the rules, the virus would be controlled faster."

I fully get your logic, I really do. I used to think like that. However I don't think the lockdown is going to help. They don't, sure, they take immediate pressure off the hospitals but then the society opens up. again and off it goes. I'm not saying herd immunity is the answer but lockdown is not either. This virus will run out of road eventually but it will take time. We cannot lock down on and off. It destroys businesses, mental health and the economy.
What the Govt has been successful at is pitting citizens against each other - calling each other selfish, panicking each other, the Govt is responsible for having a functioning healthcare system and yet has gaslit the citizens into taking FULL responsibility for this. I'm not in the UK but I ignore the rules where I am, they make no difference as long as I am sensible. I don't visit peoples houses, I still enjoy life and I know this will be something that passes. I do worry for the UK though because you all are in an absolute crisis of govt ineptitude.
If I were there I would travel. I don't buy the 'selfish' argument and I think you cannot close everything to save lives at any cost.

And to you and your family too. I really hope all these key workers are really thanked when this all comes to some kind of end
janetmendoza · 19/12/2020 19:26

Ah well fair enough. It seems like some of you and your parents are much more important than mine and dhs. I hadn't realised that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/12/2020 19:27

Tell that to the families of the c. 50 thousand people who have died from it

Could you perhaps point to the ones who've died from it ... considering that even the so-called official figures fail to tell us that?

Thank you I really hope so too jobs that people never saw as important really have worked so hard through all this

Speak for yourself. I'm in the north and it's been pretty much tight restrictions all year since March. Been in tier 3 for months now, with no sign of it changing even though our cases are down.
Nanny0gg · 19/12/2020 19:29
@Oliversmumsarmy exactly. This is the point that people are missing. Covid continues to do the rounds at my mother's care home, she probably had it (back in March when there were no tests) and she's still here. I think 6 people died from the card home. Most are still alive, existing and living bloody awful lives with dementia.

If people get ill and are fine then I'll not advocating mandatory euthanasia. But people of that generation who are extremely ill should not cripple the NHS, be admitted and god forbid be stuck on a ventilator. They've had a good innings, let them go.
Well as they put some 'elderly' people who were still living full and productive lives on a DNR, I don't think you need worry

Jrobhatch29 · 19/12/2020 19:33

But that’s due to the fact that we still had so many freedoms

Are you serious with that?

toocold54 · 19/12/2020 19:33

So you think there should be stricter rules then?

HeronLanyon · 19/12/2020 19:34

My dp broke into tears tonight as we tried to work out tier 4 and 1 plans wrecked and face Christmas each alone with extremely vulnerable relatives likely not to have even the 15 min planned outside visit.
Feel very low about all of this. It’s just been going on so long. Know it’ll feel better in the morning though.
Surrounded by boxes of food and lists and all now pointless.
I need to buck up and will. Just now momentary down ness.

Does that what it sounds like I'm saying?? Do I fuck! I think lockdowns are a nonsense and need to end.
toocold54 · 19/12/2020 19:34

Yes what other explanation would there be for a communicable virus to be spreading?
