Thanks for your reply.
"No, we hold our nerve for another 2-3 months until the most vulnerable have had the vaccine. They are the ones who will die otherwise. The young are rarely affected (people in their 20s-40s.)
Some of us who are locked down now like me have very elderly parents, 100s miles away, who I can't see and wouldn't see, but my worry is that they will die (of something else) before I can see them.
If people stuck to the rules, the virus would be controlled faster."
I fully get your logic, I really do. I used to think like that. However I don't think the lockdown is going to help. They don't, sure, they take immediate pressure off the hospitals but then the society opens up. again and off it goes. I'm not saying herd immunity is the answer but lockdown is not either. This virus will run out of road eventually but it will take time. We cannot lock down on and off. It destroys businesses, mental health and the economy.
What the Govt has been successful at is pitting citizens against each other - calling each other selfish, panicking each other, the Govt is responsible for having a functioning healthcare system and yet has gaslit the citizens into taking FULL responsibility for this. I'm not in the UK but I ignore the rules where I am, they make no difference as long as I am sensible. I don't visit peoples houses, I still enjoy life and I know this will be something that passes. I do worry for the UK though because you all are in an absolute crisis of govt ineptitude.
If I were there I would travel. I don't buy the 'selfish' argument and I think you cannot close everything to save lives at any cost.
