So where I live could be going into tier 4. Not good 😌

Is Bozo actually going to turn up at 4pm or keep us hanging around for 2 hours like last time?

Can someone say when he's started please.

williowrosenburg · 19/12/2020 16:00

It's pretty obvious from the "leaked" news what is coming.... I just want to know when it will come into effect!

noelgiraffe · 19/12/2020 16:00

Probably from midnight again.

Hearwego · 19/12/2020 16:02

Looks like us in the south east will have toughest restrictions. A contrast from when it was the North West and people felt they were being picked on.
It was only last week we were celebrating a vaccine being rolled out.
Will things get better in the spring?...

EachandEveryone · 19/12/2020 16:02

I take it I wont be going up to Yorkshire on the train then?

DrunkenKoala · 19/12/2020 16:03

This change of plans means that a lot of people will be spending Christmas entirely on their own, having already spent a lot of time fairly isolated over the last few months.

No one knows what the plans actually are yet, yet people are already saying Christmas is cancelled, I’ve seen it on so many threads today, and it’s coming from people who won’t be on their own. January and February are going to be horrific if this people are allowed to mix the way the government was suggesting.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 19/12/2020 16:03

@ceeveebee ah spotted it! Ok. Would be unfair to tier 4 the whole country!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 19/12/2020 16:04

And I'm in London so resigned to a smaller Christmas now.

year5teacher · 19/12/2020 16:05

@DrunkenKoala

I wonder whether that will mean Christmas is cancelled for those in London and the south east.

How do they cancel Christmas? I’ve bought and wrapped most the presents, bought most of our food, our tree is up and the house decorated. This morning we watched DD’s Christmas show from school (school emailed it to us). We’ve been writing our neighbours Christmas cards this afternoon to post tomorrow. On Monday DC and I are going to make mince pies ready for Christmas Eve. On Tuesday we’re going to decorate the Christmas cake. Weather permitting we’re going to go on our usual Christmas Eve morning walk in a local country park (just won’t be able to stop off for Christmas treats on the way home so we’ll get some in) In the evening we’ll go for a neighbourhood walk to look at the houses all lit up. Christmas Day we’ll still have lunch and then watch a film in the afternoon. Yes it’ll be sad that we won’t have any guests or be going to see others but we will FaceTime relatives.

I’m in Medway, Kent. The infection rate is 830/100,000, My hospital is really fucking struggling - it’s scary. If having a quiet Christmas makes it just slightly easier for the medics then I’m happy to do it.

Well, that all sounds lovely for you! Fairly tone deaf for people who are looking at the prospect of a Christmas totally alone with very little warning.
DrDetriment · 19/12/2020 16:05

I am not sure welfare visits will be allowed. In the last lockdown my ex drove 2 hours to see his elderly mum to bring her groceries etc as she has nobody else. He was stopped by police and turned back.

lynsey91 · 19/12/2020 16:07

@ceeveebee

Why should the whole country be in tier 4? Rates where I live are below 100. Just like March - when London and the south is hit, the whole country has to lock down?
Because if loads of people mix at Christmas it is going to be awful afterwards.

We all need to actually get a brain and be sensible about Christmas. It's ONE day.

I am not happy that I will be spending my first ever Christmas in over 60 years away from my parents and siblings. We are all being sensible though. None of us want the virus nor do we want to possibly pass it to our elderly parents.

jasjas1973 · 19/12/2020 16:07

Johnson dithers, can't make the hard decisions, so when eventually he is forced to change, its too little too late.

Just on Wednesday he was accusing Starmer of wanting to cancel xmas, the evidence was there last w/e.

As one Tory MP said "Boris Johnson will always let you down"

Wtf !! If that's not essential travel I don't know what is .
TheRubyRedshoes · 19/12/2020 16:08

What else does tier 4 mean?

Non essential shops open?

What changes?
Is it lock down like March? Can we g ofor walks?.

I'm don't mind a lock down right now because with dc not at school, it may actually be more of effective and make a good dent in this beasts.

But I am fully aware of how lucky I am, with no elderly relatives to cancel on etc.

Janedownourlane · 19/12/2020 16:08

DrDetriment which part of the country was that?

cologne4711 · 19/12/2020 16:10

@Floralapron

Does anyone know if it includes Oxfordshire as we are in south east technically but in a tier 2?
I am in Hampshire and was wondering this. It would be a bit of a leap to leapfrog tier 2 to tier 4.
insancerre · 19/12/2020 16:10

It's been delayed
What a surprise

williowrosenburg · 19/12/2020 16:11

If it is midnight tonight would I be unreasonable to drive and do door step drops of gifts? Was gonna do it tomorrow.

We were already having a scaled back Christmas but both sets of parents weren't!

cologne4711 · 19/12/2020 16:12

Ridiculous. He should have just carried on. It was an allowed exemption and any court would have said that, assuming it even got that far as the CPS would have also known it was an exemption and not prosecuted.

cologne4711 · 19/12/2020 16:13

Come on, if you live in one of the areas expected to go into "tier 4" you really shouldn't have been planning to mix at Christmas anyway

Risk varies a lot.

As an example, if you WFH and do click and collect for groceries, it doesn't matter what tier you're in.

Of course not, if it takes effect tonight, that's tonight, not in the hours beforehand.

Though I wouldn't say Oxfordshire was in the south east - didn't it used to come under Central TV?

cologne4711 · 19/12/2020 16:17

@DecemberSun

Presumably welfare visits will still be allowed or a lot of elderly people are likely to be stranded with no food etc.
Of course they will. And if they're not, do it anyway. Covid is not the only risk in town.
DivisionBelles · 19/12/2020 16:19

What time does this come into force?

Oddbutnotodd · 19/12/2020 16:20

Oxfordshire is in tier 2 and I think will stay there
