So where I live could be going into tier 4. Not good 😌

OP posts:
yeOldeTrout · 19/12/2020 15:24

Even in (current) tier 3 areas there are local low spots.

IntermittentParps · 19/12/2020 15:24

Come on, if you live in one of the areas expected to go into "tier 4" you really shouldn't have been planning to mix at Christmas anyway.
I'm not planning to mix but am planning to go with DP to an Airbnb outside London (where we live). Do we think the 'no travel' rule will be legislated for or will travel just be 'strongly advised' against?

Pomegranatespompom · 19/12/2020 15:25

@HeyBaby2020 that was unacceptably rude to @Danglingmod
No need to be so awful. It’s difficult for all of us.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 19/12/2020 15:26

They are fuckers for leaving it so long to call it. But it’s the right thing to do. It’s spreading because we’re spreading. I’m glad they’re finally finding some semblance of their balls.

DrunkenKoala · 19/12/2020 15:26

I wonder whether that will mean Christmas is cancelled for those in London and the south east.

How do they cancel Christmas? I’ve bought and wrapped most the presents, bought most of our food, our tree is up and the house decorated. This morning we watched DD’s Christmas show from school (school emailed it to us). We’ve been writing our neighbours Christmas cards this afternoon to post tomorrow. On Monday DC and I are going to make mince pies ready for Christmas Eve. On Tuesday we’re going to decorate the Christmas cake. Weather permitting we’re going to go on our usual Christmas Eve morning walk in a local country park (just won’t be able to stop off for Christmas treats on the way home so we’ll get some in) In the evening we’ll go for a neighbourhood walk to look at the houses all lit up. Christmas Day we’ll still have lunch and then watch a film in the afternoon. Yes it’ll be sad that we won’t have any guests or be going to see others but we will FaceTime relatives.

I’m in Medway, Kent. The infection rate is 830/100,000, My hospital is really fucking struggling - it’s scary. If having a quiet Christmas makes it just slightly easier for the medics then I’m happy to do it.

Why not? On Thursday morning we were in tier 2 and told we can mix like everyone else. It’s quite reasonable to do that. I’m not high risk nor is anyone I’m (was) planning to see.
DrDetriment · 19/12/2020 15:29

Would this mean that DP's kids can't come to us on boxing day? Under the March lock down kids were allowed to move between households of separated parents but this sounds like maybe not. Plus DP's ex used the last lockdown to stop contact despite the court order so I'm terrified she'll do the same this week.

DecemberSun · 19/12/2020 15:30

Presumably welfare visits will still be allowed or a lot of elderly people are likely to be stranded with no food etc.

naturalyoghurtmuncher · 19/12/2020 15:31

I am beyond caring at this point, sick to the teeth of it all now.

macaroniinapot · 19/12/2020 15:34

The sanctimonious comments about not mixing anyway are really not helpful. There’s already been a poster saying they feel close to giving up, have a bit of compassion and give the smug twatiness / competitive misery a rest.

Nunoftheother · 19/12/2020 15:37

@thebeachismyhappyplace2

I wonder whether that will mean Christmas is cancelled for those in London and the south east. Which would mean we will basically have to cancel plans of seeing relatives during those 4 days over Xmas.
Well yes, that's kind of the point, isn't it?
Janedownourlane · 19/12/2020 15:38

DecemberSun, I hope so. My mum has dementia and will not have care on Christmas day. I have to go to her and its a 2 hour journey cross country. No Choice.

I hope so too, I know several families in exactly that situation.
Youngatheart00 · 19/12/2020 15:40

Jeez, all of this is so depressing.

I think we just need to forget Xmas this year tbh. It’s just not worth it. At all.

lynsey91 · 19/12/2020 15:40

@ChelseaCat

They can fuck right off with their fucking tier four 😢😡
No, they need to put the whole country in tier 4. Until fucking idiots stay home unless they really have to go out this is never going to end.
PicsInRed · 19/12/2020 15:40

International travel "not advised".

I wonder if borders will be closed from 1st Jan.

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 19/12/2020 15:42

Cue armies of people descending on the supermarket having to buy a Christmas dinner at the last minute.

ceeveebee · 19/12/2020 15:43

Why should the whole country be in tier 4? Rates where I live are below 100.
Just like March - when London and the south is hit, the whole country has to lock down?

Well bully for you.

This change of plans means that a lot of people will be spending Christmas entirely on their own, having already spent a lot of time fairly isolated over the last few months.

Blueemeraldagain · 19/12/2020 15:46

My mother is on death’s doorstep (My brothers and I have had two “get here in the next hour” calls from hospital this week). I’m really sorry if anyone can’t understand this but tier 4 or no tier 4 I will be spending Christmas day with my autistic brother. (My other brother is married and can have Xmas at his home if need be).

Heartofstrings · 19/12/2020 15:49

I'm NEXT door to a tier 3 area. But we have isolated in advance of christmas. I'd be so gutted

tilder · 19/12/2020 15:51

Seriously, do you think anybody wants to be responsible for this? They've been trying to avoid another lockdown. I say this as somebody who loathes the Tories and thinks BoJo et al are orchestrating the double shit show that is covid and brexit. But i still dont believe Boris wants to be remembered as the PM who ruined Christmas.

Hospitals are reaching capacity now. Have you seen the bed occupancy rates for London? Have you seen the staff sickness rates?

How would people feel in January or February if there were not enough ambulances, beds, nurses, doctors, oxygen etc to go round.

ffs. Mumsnet is already full of people trying to wriggle round the rules. Some but not all will spread covid. Most will get away with it. But not everybody will.

Who said the whole country is going into tier 4 apart from you? Looks like London and the SE only.

You'd would like to think so. Rushed plans though, I would be surprised how much of this is thought through.

Although to be fair, it's not been announced yet. Shouldn't assume Boris will be doing a shit job. Not like he has a track record in that at all...
