I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

@LadyFelsham

Yes, I know, but I thought people on this thread were mainly talking about cancelling Christmas and restricting travel

Unsure33 · 19/12/2020 14:04

Its because they have had updated news on results from Porton down on the new mutation

What do you expect them to do ignore it ?

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 19/12/2020 14:05

"Whitehall sources told The Telegraph that the Government is looking at locking down all transport routes in the south east of England.

This could mean shutting entire London Underground lines or restricting general commuting into the capital."

Says the Torygraph

whether that is all of it or whether there is more horror on top

DailyPotion · 19/12/2020 14:06

@Frazzled2207

Not doubting the seriousness of the situation but not buying into the “new strain” thing. There have apparently been 12,000 new strains this year. Nothing to suggest it won’t react to the vaccine. Vaccines are designed to work with different strains
I currently have Covid in one of the areas where the new strain is supposed to be.

I honestly can't think where I caught it. If the 2m thing makes sense, I wouldn't have caught it, no one (outside my household) was affected by being a contact of mine, as I simply hadn't been close enough to anyone and yet I managed to be close enough to someone to catch it. I am really worried that something is going on locally, something has definitely changed in the last couple of weeks.

NettleTea · 19/12/2020 14:06

I think they will cut it from 5 days, to just xmas and Boxing day for the 3 households
to be honest, if youve spent 1 day in the house altogether, it wont matter if you spend 5.
the 'risk' for close contact is something like 15 mins with a 2m distance.

Some question marks over the tweet from Caroline Wheeler as the account looks dodgy, but it was retweeted by her colleague at the Sunday Times. Tbh this looks the likely content of the presser.

FFS WHY did the idiot PM ever promise a normal Christmas? Promising low and anything else is a bonus is a much better tactic than promising high and every single time having to climb down at the last minute.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 19/12/2020 14:07

There wasn't all this hoo-ha when rates in the north of England were up in the 400s and more.

Our rates are really low now, but because London's rates have gone up we're all expected to panic.

friendlycat · 19/12/2020 14:07

I think it will be severe travel restrictions in the SE and London. They need to lockdown these areas. They’ve had to inform The World Health Organisation of this new strain so it’s obviously very serious indeed.

CustardySergeant · 19/12/2020 14:07

I will be heartbroken if my daughter can't visit at Christmas. She lives alone and drives so public transport isn't necessary but I live in the area of East Sussex that has been put into Tier 3 and she lives in Brighton.

Unsure33 · 19/12/2020 14:08

@SchadenfreudePersonified

So there is a new mutation they could not predict and you want them to ignore it because it means changing guidelines.

That makes sense .

SheilaWilcox · 19/12/2020 14:08

Well, what’s bunglecunt got to say now

No idea, but I'm going to add 'bunglecunt' to cockwomble and fuckwit on my list of favourite words!

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 14:08

You can't expect every piece of guidance, rule or law to be enforced.

Most of us don't speed, drink drive or drive without a seatbelt but none of this is enforced thoroughly.

Expecting every sensible piece of advice or law to be enforced is ridiculous.

Yes of course some people will ignore it, but the more people who don't the better.

feellikeanalien · 19/12/2020 14:08

MagicSummer Your attitude just sums up exactly what I have been saying. I have complied with all the rules since March thinking of others and you know what it's made fuck all difference.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 19/12/2020 14:09

@GabsAlot

how does stoppng the trains work for people who have to go to work
Just what I was thinking. You know the keyworkers not just everyone else. Doctors, nurses, supermarket cashiers, etc
bluetongue · 19/12/2020 14:09

If they don’t have enough Police can they use the army as well?

LemmysAceCard · 19/12/2020 14:09

@Remmy123

They just want to shit people up enough so that they won't mix - people hang off the government's every word dont they.
Judging by the amount of people not following the rules, no they really don’t
FlappingPancakes · 19/12/2020 14:10

They need to hurry the fuck up with the rollout of the vaccine

Normally when viruses become spread more easily they become less deadly - there have been different strains from the start. I have no idea what this about.

MadameBlobby · 19/12/2020 14:10

It will be an attempt to scare the shit out of people about the so called “new strain”. As if we haven’t all been listening to the news for months and know there’s been “new strains” and “variants” talked about for months already.

Unsure33 · 19/12/2020 14:10

@SantasBritchesSpelleas

But you know it’s not just on the rate .that has been explained before . So that is not the argument.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 19/12/2020 14:10

@secretlyhappy

I am thinking that people who have had "old" covid are getting this new one I.e. getting covid twice
Unlikely. Otherwise the vaccine is unlikely to work.

@BringPizza

I think people need to get a grip.

Nowhere on this thread has a Christian complained about not being able to go to church for a Christmas service. People whining about trees and turkeys, while others (not here on this thread) will be waiting for updates from covid ITU staff on seriously ill relatives. I miss my friends and family desperately too, but for the sake of the vulnerable I accept I have to behave in a responsible manner. It's one day people, one fucking day.

Pretty much this. It'll be rubbish if plans are cancelled but really, after the last 9 months have we not learned not to make plans outside the home in the middle of a pandemic?

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 19/12/2020 14:11

Not travelling out of tier 3 is already in the guidance. I imagine they didn’t make it law because there need to be so many exceptions and it is so hard to enforce.

I reckon piffle waffle scary scary piffle waffle. And it will be your fault not mine if this goes badly so everyone play nicely. Piffle waffle.

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 14:11

@FlappingPancakes rollout? They haven't got enough doses to scratch the surface of approved vaccines. Next batch due in March and who knows of we can buy more- it's pretty much in demand!

Of the Oxford one comes good then maybe that will help. But it's not there yet.....
