I hope to god they don’t ban travel from tier 3 areas, my son Lives in an area that has recently gone into tier 3. He has been isolating For a couple of weeks Already so he can come home on Wednesday. Train tickets Already booked.

treening · 19/12/2020 13:57

Realistically they can't ban travel because the resources to police it aren't there.

LittleMissLockdown · 19/12/2020 13:57

@GabsAlot

they cant just ban tier 3 from travelling at xmas surely-that will divide everyone

so some can have their family over for xmas some cant

Agreed, especially when it's clear that in many areas the rates are higher despite being in a lower tier.
GabsAlot · 19/12/2020 13:59

how does stoppng the trains work for people who have to go to work

WhenSheWasBad · 19/12/2020 13:59

I’ll bet it’s a travel ban if you are in a 3 tier area.

Makes sense , I’ve got relatives planning to travel from one tier 3 area to another tier 3 area 200 miles away. Such a bad idea.

Gobacktothe90s · 19/12/2020 13:59

Surely if Boris announces a lockdown now people will think fuck it at Xmas and see their family if we going to be locked down again for what seems like it's going to be longer than 4 weeks

MagicSummer · 19/12/2020 13:59

@feellikeanalien

If Boris cancels travelling at Christmas he can come round to my house and deal with my DD. I have already had her in tears because she thought she would not be able to go to my Dsis for Christmas.

She has SN and has lost both grandparents and her Dad in the last year. I fucking hate Boris. If he had decided to ban Christmas visits then this should already have been done.

I thought I'd been coping quite well with having been in Tier 3 for ever but over the last few days all this Christmas crap has started to make me feel really down. What is the point of anything ? We'll travel to see my sister and her family. We won't stop on the way and we won't see anyone else while we're there.

I need some adult conversation, I need to feel that there is something to look forward to. I am sick of all this gloom and doom and all these self-righteous people who will be spending a quiet Christmas with their lovely little families telling me to suck it up.

Even the vaccine sounds like it is going to be a cock up so life will not go back to anything like normal for a very long time. There is bound to be another lock down after Christmas.

I know I'll get told I'm being selfish but you know what I don't really care any more.

There are an awful lot of 'I' this and 'I' that in your post. Sorry, but your wishes do not trump the majority.
Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 19/12/2020 13:59

All the news reports seem to be saying a travel ban for London/south east.

He said 3 days ago he wouldn't be cancelling the Christmas restrictions so I don't think it will be that.

Plussizejumpsuit · 19/12/2020 13:59

I'm so sick of this lack of clarity in comms its nearly as bad as this shitty virus.

BringPizza · 19/12/2020 13:59

I think people need to get a grip.

Nowhere on this thread has a Christian complained about not being able to go to church for a Christmas service. People whining about trees and turkeys, while others (not here on this thread) will be waiting for updates from covid ITU staff on seriously ill relatives. I miss my friends and family desperately too, but for the sake of the vulnerable I accept I have to behave in a responsible manner. It's one day people, one fucking day.

Gobacktothe90s · 19/12/2020 13:59

Sorry I meant a lockdown immediately after Xmas would push people to see their family at Xmas.

HighHeelBoots · 19/12/2020 14:00

Put up barriers i say, stop the Southern strain infecting the North Xmas Wink

DailyPotion · 19/12/2020 14:00

@BlueBrian

No travelling in and out of the SE seems possible, stop the underground, railways, and close the motorways, that would stop everybody except the completely idiotic from going anywhere.
I just can't see them doing that. There must be loads of people working in London including half the government who are planning to travel home to families for the holiday. I don't mean back home to extended family, I mean to their wives and kids.
Pomegranatespompom · 19/12/2020 14:00

Many hospitals at 97% capacity.
We had 200 staff off sick yesterday. We need a strict lockdown sadly.

unchienandalusia · 19/12/2020 14:00

Hair cuts, tickets booked and food shopping v mutant strain of pandemic causing virus. Give me strength.

Dadnotamum72 · 19/12/2020 14:00

Tier 4 and a stay at home order/ no travel for the south east/ london.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 19/12/2020 14:01

Magicsummer - how can you possibly know the wishes of the majority?! It's likely that most/a lot of people want to mix at Christmas. Mumsnet is not representative of the whole country Hmm

HmmSureJan · 19/12/2020 14:01

They can't ban travel but they can heavily restrict public transport so many people can't travel.

I had a feeling about this, not this exactly, just that something might happen to prevent me seeing them so I self isolated and bubbled with my parents - who are two hours away, and visited them the moment lockdown was lifted at the beginning of December and we had our Christmas then - exchanged gifts, dinner etc. I didn't tell anyone because it felt a bit silly and extreme but I am glad we did it now.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/12/2020 14:02

Blacktothepink
Well, what’s bunglecunt got to say now 🤔

Are they Bunglecunts in Italy, Austria, The Netherlands and Germany too?

Or is it just some Bunglecunts on the internet wanting to give the impression that the rest of the world is having a jolly fucking Christmas while England is under a jcakboot.

No fucker knows how to handle this crisis

(Please don't say China where the fucking thing actually started and they kept their gobs shut about it for longer than any decent country would have done and in any case, I can imagine assorted Bunglecunts really complaining if our government did hat the Chinese government did to contain it)

Have a bit of fucking sense-no-one knows what to do for the best-no fucker- so quit the bunglecunting name calling. Prick

It's all the chopping and bloody changing that's the problem - that's what Blacktothepink is complaining about!

Nobody knows whether they are coming or going. That trunk Johnson was told by health advisors not to lift restrictions - he refused to listen. So people went ahead an made arrangements.

NOW it looks as though he will have to renege on it, and there will be people sitting in front of a 27lb turkey on their own, and others having a Christmas dinner of sausage and chips - THAT'S what makes him a "Bunglec*nt".

Had he followed the science earlier, people wouldn't have been making arrangements that are now going to have to be distressingly set aside, and may also prove very expensive.

He iIs a Bunglec*nt - and he leads a cabinet falloff them!

Frazzled2207 · 19/12/2020 14:02

Not doubting the seriousness of the situation but not buying into the “new strain” thing. There have apparently been 12,000 new strains this year. Nothing to suggest it won’t react to the vaccine. Vaccines are designed to work with different strains

Yohoheaveho · 19/12/2020 14:02

How will travel band be enforced?

LadyFelsham · 19/12/2020 14:02

@meditrina

if our government did hat the Chinese government did to contain it

They cancelled all travel and household mixing for Chinese New Year

They did a lot more than fucking that!
SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/12/2020 14:02

*twunt, not trunk

GabsAlot · 19/12/2020 14:03

travelling wasnt enforce dint he firs tlockdown and they wont be able to do it this time

bettxmascake · 19/12/2020 14:04

@HappyDays10101

I am just ignoring the rules, so it won’t make much difference for me.
You're alright Jack. How about the people you are going to risk spreading it to if you get it? The elderly, the hospital staff, the education staff?

Selfish in the extreme.
