I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

@ChequerBoard

What's not clear about NOT being allowed to move between tiers? Of course you can travel from tier 2 England to tier 4 Wales!
There's no need to be chippy. I've been busy all day not seen the news conference live. Been checking the web but it's says it's updating.
JacobReesMogadishu · 19/12/2020 17:11

@PatsArrow

I'm so confused as to what's allowed for my situation.

Me, DH and 2 kids have rented a holiday cottage nearby to my Addis's family (4 adults) so that we didn't have to stay in their house. We were going to see them but not have dinner together. We booked within the travel window.

Dsis is in Wales, I'm in Tier 2 England.

Can I still travel to the cottage? We're in the car. Taking food for ourselves etc,

Thjnk you can only mix on Xmas day? 🤷‍♀️
whiskybysidedoor · 19/12/2020 17:11

why did the journalists all have to ask the same question pretty much, trying to just humiliate boris by saying he got it wrong. These people seem to forget their enormously privileged position and waste their precious access to ask questions, pushing a political agenda rather than a public health agenda.

I thought that. Lost the plot haven’t they, this is why the press and social media outlets get election results so very very wrong. Theyve got caught up in what they think is a popular narrative and not stopped to think or listen to what people want. Sad state of affairs. Should end their careers really.

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 17:11

@doublehalo they created it to account for the rapidly changing situation. Did you expect the tier system created back in July to be static regardless of any changes and developments?

AldiAisleofCrap · 19/12/2020 17:11

Re : support bubbles Boris said in tier for you can meet in support bubbles if they were at particular risk of lonliness

nosswith · 19/12/2020 17:12

I think that he has deliberately waited until today to announce it so that it cannot be discussed in Parliament. The issues were known about on Monday.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/12/2020 17:12

BBC news now covering every question asked here in neat bullet points.

No bubbles in Tier 4, for example.

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 17:12

@AldiAisleofCrap I'd say that is one of the main points of the whole bubble system?

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 17:12

@Cloudhopping

For all those complaining about the new rules- why are you surprised? Why did you plan a big family gathering (even if it was with 3 households and was ‘allowed’)? We’re in the middle of a pandemic and the common sense approach was always to make Christmas as quiet and simple as possible. I have no sympathy for those that were planning a get together with several others even if this was family. It’s just daft.

We are in a low risk area (at the moment) but made the difficult decision not to travel to see elderly parents in law or my brothers weeks ago. Its always been about minimising risk where possible.

Do one
Useruseruserusee · 19/12/2020 17:13

I’m in a Tier 4 area and sad that I will have to tell DC that they won’t be seeing grandparents (we have a childcare bubble with them but not a support bubble). Also glad I bought a backup chicken we can have on Xmas day.

However I teach in a primary school in one of the London boroughs with the highest rates and the last week has been pretty scary. 17 new cases in the last three days alone and I’m sure more to come in the next few days as staff and children are awaiting results. We didn’t have a single positive Covid test all term, and then suddenly a week ago it changed. From nothing to lots seemingly overnight.

Yes I've had enough of their coverage too

My father lives in another country where Covid has hit pretty hard and their media has been informative and supportive. Ours has been out on the piss flouting rules and then just interested in trying to catch the politicians out with stupid questions rather than asking stuff we would like to hear answers to

NoGoodPunsLeft · 19/12/2020 17:15

@ouchiezz

Can we meet outside? My mum is in Wales but near the border. We live in Cheshire so if we met in chester we wouldn't be leaving our tier and we could go for a walk together.
You can still meet one person outside so as long as it's just you & her, yes. Hope it's a nice day for you Xmas Smile
Cuddling57 · 19/12/2020 17:15

Regarding the posts about buffets - whilst the unhygienic nature of a buffet at ANY time (especially on holidays - yuck!) deserve a thread to themselves - people are kidding themselves if sitting down to dinner being served to you is going to be less riskier than a buffet for catching coronavirus.
If you are in the same room and speaking with a positive person you are likely to catch it.
If you are in the position of having too much food now maybe think of donating it to a food bank or someone who needs it. Could be a lovely Christmas gift Smile

Othering · 19/12/2020 17:15

@doublehalo

This shit is giving me the rage. What a bunch of cunts.

Having looked at gov.co.uk there actually isn't a Tier 4. So they're just made it up in the last 5 mins. ....

Motherfuckers.

Quite.
doublehalo · 19/12/2020 17:16
@doublehalo they created it to account for the rapidly changing situation. Did you expect the tier system created back in July to be static regardless of any changes and developments?
Yes, I surely did.

I expect people who are supposed to be experts to know that we have a flu season in this country and to make plans accordingly. What's difficult about that?

I would like one of them to have asked, how is it more transmissible? Do we have any idea? Is it more airborne? Is it surviving longer on surfaces? What can we the public do to reduce spread exactly?

I agree, they are so bloody annoying.

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock73 · 19/12/2020 17:16

Funny though they have known since September about the new mutation (of which there have been lots) left London in tier 2 now less than week to go and tier 4. Total shitshow again! Give it til Wednesday and it will be rolled out across all tiers.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/12/2020 17:16

Do one?

To be fair it was always going to be more sensible to keep family gatherings as limited as possible, to make a Plan B.

Laiste · 19/12/2020 17:17

Link to a easy map of tier 4.

Whattimeisdinner · 19/12/2020 17:17

I really wish they would update Gov. uk at the same time as announcing the 'news'...

Totally agree. They are so shit.

No, support bubbles are still allowed that I can see. It’s very early on the bbc blurb.

@Cloudhopping you are the shiniest of all shining stars.

midscram · 19/12/2020 17:18

@CuriousaboutSamphire we thought we were being sensible by self isolating for 14 days & not having to travel (mum lives alone around the corner) ☹️

Is it fun to be so smug?
