I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?
@catpoooffender. Think you’re right .

Did he say something different or were we all just assuming he’d say 2!
I am absolutely sure he said it...but that doesn't mean he was right Grin

Anyway, just having frantic text convo with my brother who was supposed to be bringing his family over on Xmas Day...we are both in T4 now so it's not happening but I feel so crap for them.

Looks like they'll be doing a mad rush to the supermarket along with 1000s of others. What a complete fucking farce.

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 16:58

I wish he hadn't jinxed my Easter plans. Maybe I should aim for mayday without a maypole or even a June garden party with a bring your own picnic.

Fizbosshoes · 19/12/2020 16:58

Has he said anything about childcare bubbles for tier 4 yet? Or even what ‘south-east’ covers?

Someone posted a list a couple of pages ago.
It includes (but not limited to)
London
Kent
Hertfordshire
Bedfordshire (not sure if all)
Milton Keynes
Essex (not sure if all)

AaronPurr · 19/12/2020 16:59

Really hoping the new variant is possibly dangerous

I really hope you meant isn't. Confused

JacobReesMogadishu · 19/12/2020 16:59

Tier 4 areas. Does not include all tier 3 “east” areas at all. I’m as Far East as you can get and we remain in tier 3.

Cherrysoup · 19/12/2020 16:59

*@FlappingPancakes
Sorry we are in tier4, step kids in tier2 but we were having them for a week after Xmas

Having stepkids is exempt from the rules, so you’re ok.

RedskyAtnight · 19/12/2020 17:00

If you now have surplus food, perhaps you could find a neighbour/friend who has no food as they were expecting someone else to host and pool resources?

MinesaBottle · 19/12/2020 17:00

mybossisatwat according to BBC the tier 4 areas are

In south-east England, the areas affected are:
■ Greater London (all 32 boroughs and the City of London)
■ Kent
■ Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes
■ Berkshire
■ Surrey (excluding Waverley)
■ Gosport, Havant, Portsmouth
■ Rother and Hastings
In the east of England, the areas affected are:
■ Bedfordshire
■ Hertfordshire
■ Essex (excluding Colchester, Uttlesford and Tendring)
■ Peterborough

PimlicoJo · 19/12/2020 17:00

I said earlier that I'd heard of 5 people in the last few days who've tested positive. I've just heard of another 3. It's so disappointing but I definitely think it's the right thing to do.

user89 · 19/12/2020 17:00

@Quads4x4

Buffet for 16 was fine when they said 3 households can mix.
It may have been allowed, but frankly it was still fucking stupid
missymoomoomoomoomoo · 19/12/2020 17:00

Can we all be clear that support bubbles are unaffected and you can still see support bubbles as much as you like

Fizbosshoes · 19/12/2020 17:00

Really hoping the new variant is possibly dangerous

Really hoping this is a typo!

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 17:00

@macaroniinapot

There’s no need to slag people off for making plans within the rules the government set.

Some families are bigger, is it really that hard to compute?

Also you can follow the rules and understand the need to change plans etc but still be fucked off you’ve wasted loads of food and money. Classic Mumsnet, the only place where expressing disappointment at that is met with horror.

This, a thousand times.
QueenStromba · 19/12/2020 17:01

@Ninbus

If the r number could be increased by 0.4 I have no idea how schools will stay open. It’s hard enough keeping the r number at 1 as it is. Really hoping the new variant is possibly dangerous
They'll have to do something about the schools as the rise in the new variant coincided with cases starting to rise again in London before the end of the last lockdown.
NellyJames · 19/12/2020 17:01

@IrmaFayLear, actually, if you’re referring to me ‘popping up’ then the Virus has actually been through our households earlier in the year. Also, we didn’t go ahead and confirm the food order until after the last PMQs when he categorically said no cancelling and called Keir Starmer a humbug. All he had to do was make a fucking decision last week.

vjg13 · 19/12/2020 17:01

It seemed like all the information on the new variant was to muddy the waters and scare people into behaving. I do think it is the right decision though.

AldiAisleofCrap · 19/12/2020 17:01

I'm in tier 4 and so is my mum who in her 80s. I have been isolating and working from home for weeks. She has been looking forward to Christmas for weeks, and now will be all alone?

I also don't have a car so I can't go "just for the day" as there will be no transport.

So what do i do?

@BinkyBoinky are you not her support bubble?

MyBossIsATwat · 19/12/2020 17:01

@Fizbosshoes

Thanks, I did try to read it all before asking but clearly skimmed too quickly, thanks for your help

MissMatchedClaws · 19/12/2020 17:01

Also sure Johnson said two households in tiers 2 and 3, but that’s not being reported now, so who knows maybe he read his script wrong?

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 17:02
@catpoooffender. Think you’re right .

This was a real-time example of the Mandela effect 😂

Blowingagale · 19/12/2020 17:02

The gov.uk website has not been updated yet. Surely they could have had the webpages drafted and added as soon as he finished (before press conference bit)

Beautifulbonnie · 19/12/2020 17:02

@FlappingPancakewhoever is in tier 4. Won’t be allowed to travel. Whether that’s you or them. They can’t travel to another tier.

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 17:02

@MissMatchedClaws

Also sure Johnson said two households in tiers 2 and 3, but that’s not being reported now, so who knows maybe he read his script wrong?
😂😂 trust me, he didn't. As I said, you're all experiencing the Mandela effect.
DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 17:02

Chris Whitty is a class act imho. He once answered the question " do YOU follow all the rules?" with "I try." Which is honest and modest.

time4anothername · 19/12/2020 17:03

why did the journalists all have to ask the same question pretty much, trying to just humiliate boris by saying he got it wrong. These people seem to forget their enormously privileged position and waste their precious access to ask questions, pushing a political agenda rather than a public health agenda.

I would like one of them to have asked, how is it more transmissible? Do we have any idea? Is it more airborne? Is it surviving longer on surfaces? What can we the public do to reduce spread exactly?
