I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

Terrible pandemic and people pop up blathering about their buffet for 16 and all the food they’ve got in.

Surely anyone with one brain cell would have thought, never mind what I am allowed to do, making such plans is a bit dodgy right now as things could very well change, and, furthermore, I don’t want to host a superspreader event and be responsible for illness in my family.

Fizbosshoes · 19/12/2020 16:53

Sorry if I’ve missed it but what happens when you’re hosting and have spent a fortune on food that is now going to waste?

He didnt address that particular point. Can you freeze or ask around. Some folks may have not been planning to cater for xmas and have less food in than they now need.(although I would have thought advisable , if affordable, to have back up plans in case anyone needed to isolate at last minute)
I havent shopped for this week yet.
i think tesco is going to be utter carnageSad

MyBossIsATwat · 19/12/2020 16:54

Has he said anything about childcare bubbles for tier 4 yet? Or even what ‘south-east’ covers?

PimlicoJo · 19/12/2020 16:54

I'm one of the people who said it was 2 households. I'm glad I was wrong; I must have imagined it.

tootyfruitypickle · 19/12/2020 16:54

@catpoooffender. Think you’re right .

Did he say something different or were we all just assuming he’d say 2!

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 16:54

If you have food in your home now which was supposed to me for Christmas then I'd suggest you begin eating or freezing it. It's still a week away. Perishables wouldn't have kept anyway....

Food due for delivery can be cancelled in most cases.

Or if I are an arsehole you can just carry on regardless so as to not Waste food!

AldiAisleofCrap · 19/12/2020 16:55

First time I ever respected Boris for making the right rather than the popular decision.
Although not Christmas bubbles were necessary support bubbles already existed. A persons right to see extended family dies not trump another’s right to not become seriously ill, have long Covid or die. Yes some people self isolated for two weeks but very few could do that practically.

ouchiezz · 19/12/2020 16:55

Can we meet outside? My mum is in Wales but near the border. We live in Cheshire so if we met in chester we wouldn't be leaving our tier and we could go for a walk together.

whiskybysidedoor · 19/12/2020 16:55

I’m asking what happens when you’re a family of 5 who were mixing with one other family of 5 and a set of grandparents so we’d be a house of 12 (3 households) thus have spent £300 on food that we cannot get a refund for as there’s 5 of us and we thought we were feeding 12.

You suck it up, freeze, donate and be thankful you haven’t got more to worry about is the polite answer.

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 16:56

A buffet is a great way to spread a virus in multiple ways! Grin

cptartapp · 19/12/2020 16:56

catpool you're not wrong, it's still three households Tier 1-3. Xmas day only.
Regular Xmas for us really. I'm more gutted we can't have our usual trip away for New Year.

tinselearedcow · 19/12/2020 16:56

Sorry if I’ve missed it but what happens when you’re hosting and have spent a fortune on food that is now going to waste?

Maybe go on your local Facebook and see if you can give some of it to people who may have not got stuff in for Christmas because they were going elsewhere?

AldiAisleofCrap · 19/12/2020 16:56

Sorry if I’ve missed it but what happens when you’re hosting and have spent a fortune on food that is now going to waste?
Hmm wasted food versus people’s lives, it’s a difficult one.

EurosprogBauble · 19/12/2020 16:56

@NellyJames

Sorry if I’ve missed it but what happens when you’re hosting and have spent a fortune on food that is now going to waste?
Oh, well then the rules don't apply to you - absolutely nobody else will be in this situation. Crack on*.

*Sarcasm alert for the hard of thinking.

FFS - what is the matter with people?

bettxmascake · 19/12/2020 16:56

Sorry if I’ve missed it but what happens when you’re hosting and have spent a fortune on food that is now going to waste?

You donate it to the food bank or to a homeless shelter which is open on xmas day.

nolovelost · 19/12/2020 16:56

TFFT!

Why are people so surprised?! Things change in this pandemic, it's not Bojo's fault. Planning for lots of people meeting was foolish anyway.

ancientgran · 19/12/2020 16:57

Boris promises it will all be great at Easter now Yes that's put the kiss of death on the easter bunny hasn't it.

user89 · 19/12/2020 16:57

@AaronPurr

All current tier 3 are going into tier 4.

I really don't think that's what he said at all. Confused

It wasn't what he said at all, T4 is just London and SE
Lightningrain · 19/12/2020 16:57

I’m astounded at some of the comments on here. It’s as though people think their family should trump everybody else and the rules don’t apply to them.

Do you really think any of us want to be in this situation?

Yes, it’s shit but it’s the selfish attitude that’s making it worse for everybody.

macaroniinapot · 19/12/2020 16:57

There’s no need to slag people off for making plans within the rules the government set.

Some families are bigger, is it really that hard to compute?

Also you can follow the rules and understand the need to change plans etc but still be fucked off you’ve wasted loads of food and money. Classic Mumsnet, the only place where expressing disappointment at that is met with horror.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/12/2020 16:57

@PimlicoJo

I'm one of the people who said it was 2 households. I'm glad I was wrong; I must have imagined it.
He said the Christmas bubble was limited to Christmas Day, but he emphasised the word TO and paused so I thought he was going to say two households.
BinkyBoinky · 19/12/2020 16:57

Thank you, I had a moment of panic. I am her support bubble but I will have to stay over (I have my own room at hers) as I don't drive. I'm pretty worried about that, but we've both been pretty much isolating for ages so it should be OK. I'm also cooking christmas dinner there! What a palava.

FatGirlShrinking · 19/12/2020 16:57

Well for once it looks like a Leicester has not been caught in the worst restrictions so that's kind of nice.

Ninbus · 19/12/2020 16:58

If the r number could be increased by 0.4 I have no idea how schools will stay open. It’s hard enough keeping the r number at 1 as it is. Really hoping the new variant is possibly dangerous

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/12/2020 16:58

From Sky: Professor Chris Whitty is asked if he would travel through Kent at this stage and he replies he would not do so "unless it is absolutely necessary"

Loving this ... so that's at least one who's got his excuse rehearsed for if he's caught travelling
