I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

DP is watching the conference while I deal with DD. He is providing conflicting information.

Looks like we’re staying in tier 2, just West of the mapped areas. My mum, for whom we are her support bubble, was planning to drive down from the midlands after work on Christmas Eve and stay until the 27th. I assume she is no longer allowed to do that....unless support bubbles supersede Christmas bubbles?

As a relatively intelligent human, I must admit that I find Boris very rambling.

Lucy830 · 19/12/2020 16:35

Borris looks fed up.

AcornAutumn · 19/12/2020 16:36

@Taystee29

£100 down the drain for me. Booked a hotel for the 27th in a t3 area and train tickets. Oh well, all that matters is Covid hey Hmm
Will insurance cover it?
squiddybear · 19/12/2020 16:36

Confused. I'm in SE but in tier 2 but am staying in tier 2? When all bordering are going to tier 4?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/12/2020 16:36

Only mixing on Christmas Day seems a bit ridiculous. So if you live close to relatives you can see them but if you don't you can't? I don't think the virus knows or cares how close you live to people.

Sadly that seems to be the case.

Seems sensible to me to limit travel between areas. Although I think a lot of people will ignore travel restrictions and be sneaking into their relatives' houses late at night on Christmas Eve. Or arriving after midnight legally. Grin

Arboria · 19/12/2020 16:36

16 people in three households?

Chinny reckon.

FixItUpChappie · 19/12/2020 16:36

God that's awful tactum - there are some things I would not allow a government to dictate to me and not seeing my dying brother would be one of them tbh.SadThanks

MadameBlobby · 19/12/2020 16:36

Chris is actually quite reassuring.

AaronPurr · 19/12/2020 16:36

@Belepheron

Tier 4 is only meet one other family for Xmas day, no?
I thought Tier 4 was no mixing at all on Christmas day.
LadyLazaruss · 19/12/2020 16:36

@Belepheron

Tier 4 is only meet one other family for Xmas day, no?
No, tier 4 is no mixing at all
Bumpsadaisie · 19/12/2020 16:37

He said those places in London and the south east which moved into tier 3 earlier this week are now moving to tier 4.

Places that were in tier 3 already - eg Lancs Manchester west and south Yorkshire, north east - all stay as is in tier 3.

No Xmas gathering in tier 4.

Tiers 1-3 Xmas gathering with one other house only (not 2) and only on Xmas day itself.

Bettydot · 19/12/2020 16:37

@midscram it won’t include childcare bubbles as they aren’t for socialising literally just for childcare.

cdtaylornats · 19/12/2020 16:37

I have to wait an hour to listen to Nicola say exactly the same as Boris with slightly different words.

VulvaPerson · 19/12/2020 16:37

@BonnieDundee

So a buffet for 16 people will spread it but schools full of children won't? Patients in hospitals wont spread.it? Patients being discharged to care homes dont spread it.but heaven forbid that somebody have a buffet for.boxing day.
Well..quite.
DollyParton2 · 19/12/2020 16:37

Worst case as far as I can see is: if police do a spot check or neighbours report you & you’re found with your family you’d each get a £200 fine? I’m willing to take that risk.

Belepheron · 19/12/2020 16:37

Ok no mixing at all Xmas day. Lovely.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/12/2020 16:37

@jasjas1973

I agree. Shame that he's been so weak earlier in the pandemic. He really needs to put on his big boy pants, announce some serious restrictions and enforce them

He has allowed infections, hospital admissions and deaths to increase to the point where hospitals in the SE cannot cope, he was asked last week to change the xmas policy and he ridiculed Labour for suggesting such an idea.

He deserves to be sacked not given credit.

And the risk of mutations like this increases the more the virus spreads. That decision in Sept not to follow the science and have a firebreak in Sept when we only had 6000 cases a day looks worse and worse by the day.
SeaSeeker · 19/12/2020 16:37

I’m confused. My dad was going to travel from a tier 2 area in England up to me in Scotland. It’s too far for him to come for just one day. So no meeting at all? His mental health is poor. We have been preparing by isolating etc. I just can’t believe it, there are so many cases that are more complicated (and careful) than simply mixing for fun

He said support bubbles remain, assuming you mean your mum is a single adult household and not that your mum is childcare.
Diddlysquatty · 19/12/2020 16:37

So..... if we and the other 2 households we were planning to get together with are all tier 2, do we think we’re still allowed to meet? (Obviously separate question as to whether we still decide to)

MrsLebowski · 19/12/2020 16:37

Yes I am in SE T2 so strange if it doesn't go up to T3 at least but I also hope it doesnt

Lougle · 19/12/2020 16:37

@Belepheron

Tier 4 is only meet one other family for Xmas day, no?
I'm hesitant to comment, as I misheard the earlier part, but I think tier 4 is no mixing at all (other than support bubbles or one person outside in public) and all other tiers are Xmas day bubbles only.
SailorKerry · 19/12/2020 16:37

@Belepheron

Tier 4 is only meet one other family for Xmas day, no?
Tier 4 = Meeting 1 person, but outdoors is what they've just put on the screen, I think.
Lucindainthesky · 19/12/2020 16:37

People who were planning buffets for 16 should be put into indefinite lockdown. Restrictions should be decided by IQ rather than area

baublesbaubleseverywhere · 19/12/2020 16:37

@Belepheron

Tier 4 is only meet one other family for Xmas day, no?
It's meeting one person outside, as I understand it?
