I had Covid recently and ended up on antibiotics after 14 days of a persistently high temperature. My sternum felt sore. Is that where your chest hurts? I also had trouble taking a full breath and would cough if I breathed in too hard.

AstridAv · 19/12/2020 10:23

My temperature is normal. Maybe slightly higher than normal but around 37.3 most of the time. It hurts all over the chest.
I would've thought at day 10 I would've seen improvement.

My symptoms are the same OP. Week 4 for me and my chest is more painful now. I did have an actual appointment yesterday with the nurse practitioner, my chest is clear but because of the pain she's requested an X-ray.
She said though it's quite common post covid.

I've had discomfort over my sternum, just like a dull ache and not really related to anything. I'm presuming it's due to inflammation of the muscles there pretty much like people were experiencing generalised muscular pain. Hopefully you are over the worst - deterioration apparently is more likely between days 5-10. I still feel pretty crap and I'm nearly 3 weeks in, funny new symptoms everyday.

My chest felt like someone had clamped around the bit where my boobs are and was squeezing it combined with feeling like I was breathing through concrete spiked with glass (almost like a chemical burning feeling)

OrangeBlossom28 · 19/12/2020 10:58

It took me at least 16 days before I started to feel better and I suspect this was related to the antibiotics I was on. It's a slow process and I'm now at the end of wk5 abandon still tired.

OrangeBlossom28 · 19/12/2020 10:58

Supposed to be
and am still tired.

Yes felt like my chest was in a vice, very painful to breathe, but no cough. Days 5-10 were the worse, started easing after that. Also burning sensation (since realised that probable severe acid reflux) and pain between shoulder blades. This was back in the spring, when only those in hospital were having tests, so can't be sure it was Covid, but not sure what else it could have been.

Those who developed pneumonia or chest infections, were they secondary infections? I get confused about whether you can have antibiotics or not with Covid!

Porcupineinwaiting · 19/12/2020 15:28

@SandysMam antibiotics wont help with the COVID virus but they can help if you get a secondary bacterial infection. Liaise w your gp if you think you have.

Jrobhatch29 · 19/12/2020 15:30

My friend just had covid and needed antibiotics for a secondary bacterial infection. They worked quickly and she's fine now

SandysMam · 19/12/2020 15:33

Thank you, I get so confused with it all!

FlappingPancakes · 19/12/2020 15:34

I had the chest pain but on day 3 and then it went away - I would just give it a few days and see if it goes away

I had it back in March and also only had a temp for one day (right at the start)

emzy1990 · 10/01/2021 18:53

AstridAv · 10/01/2021 19:48

I know this is an old thread but wondered how long this lasted. I had covid couple of weeks ago and ever since my chest is so painful when I cough or lie down in bed, I'm fine during the day, unless I'm coughing or sneezing. Starting to worry and wondering if I need to see Gp. Apart from this my covid wss pretty mild
