What is deemed a close contact?

Hi all, got tested for covid today. Hoping it’s negative. It’s likely I’ve caught the virus DS had earlier in the week and tested negative for himself.

Anyway, me thinking of the worst. Say I was positive what is deemed a close contact? In the last 48 hours??

I’ve pretty much been in at home. Had a few days at home prepping for Christmas. I went to the supermarket on Wednesday. Social distanced at all times, wore a mask but not been shopping or anything since. Not met up with a soul in weeks.

I’ve done the school run but it’s all outside and not stood close next to anyone and we wear masks. I did walk home with another mum a couple days ago (literally a 2-3 minute walk from school to my house). We stood well apart at all times, not close together.

So yeah what is considered a close contact?!

We’ve had report on close contacts in my class today: Public Health England were not very interested in events that happened in the open air (ie walking home). But yes, within 1metre for 1 minute, within 2 metres for 15 minutes. That was for 2 days before symptoms started.

@dementedpixie doesn’t mention being outside. I guess walking home with someone outside and being at least 1 meter apart is really a risk?

Thank you @QueenofLouisiana!

I’m quite interested in finding out the answer to outside contact too. My son attended a local football match and sat next to his friend who is now unwell and awaiting a test result. They were wearing masks the whole time, 2 hours, but within 1 metre. Sat side by side not forward facing. Does anyone know whether he will be classed as a contact?
