I had the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine yesterday!

I had the first dose of the vaccine yesterday evening and wanted to tell someone!

I know that normality is not just around the corner, but today I feel a little bit more hopeful and positive than I have been feeling over recent months. I'm really looking forward to a time where we can all collectively look back on this awful period of time and call it the past rather than the present.

Xmas Smile

Congratulations! 🥳 I’m so relieved that we finally have some light at the end of the tunnel. It makes all the current lockdowns so much more bearable. It does make me marvel at modern medicine!

DayBath · 17/12/2020 18:49

Has it been approved then? I just checked the news and didn't see anything about it passing through the MHRA...or is this part of a trial still?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/12/2020 18:49

🍾🥂

IcedPurple · 17/12/2020 18:55

More infomation needed. Was this part of a trial or what?

junglepie · 17/12/2020 19:03

surely not the oxford vaccine - that hasnt been approved yet....

FindHungrySamurai · 17/12/2020 19:03

????

notevenat20 · 17/12/2020 19:04

Do you mean the Biontec/Pfizer vaccine maybe? In any case, congratulations.

IcedPurple · 17/12/2020 19:05

What a strange thread.

Where's the OP?

triceratops12 · 17/12/2020 19:06

Have you referenced the wrong vaccine?

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 19:08

Oh my goodness, you are all correct. I meant Pfizer!! Apologies for the confusion there. My information package leaflet just calls it covid-19 mRNA vaccine BNT162b2 and I was talking to a friend earlier about the different vaccines so managed to write the Oxford one down as it was on my mind.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 19:11

Sorry! I'm here- was just putting my son to bed. It wasn't meant to be a strange thread but as I'm an idiot I have created extra confusion. I just wanted to share my excitement to maybe give someone some hope!

Fair enough, easy mistake to make! Congrats on getting the jab. Any ill effects?

DontAskForMedicalAdviceOnMars · 17/12/2020 19:14

I had mine this week too op, i was also excited to have it. I’ve had a banging headache and feel really tired -which are common side effects-but no other ill effects at all.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 17/12/2020 19:15

I’m taking part in the Novavax COVID 19 trial and when I had my initial consultation with the doctor she called it the Pfizer vaccine before quickly correcting herself! Easily done...good news OP

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 19:16

No funny effects other than a very heavy, slightly odd feeling arm last night. We had to wait for 15 mins before we were allowed to leave (I assume this is in case of serious adverse effects such as anaphylaxis?)

I have to go back on the 6th for the second dose.

I'm in Central London for reference.

Congrats! I just wish my 91 year old mum had had hers. Shes still waiting.

Lindy2 · 17/12/2020 19:21

My mum had hers today. It feels like the light at the end of this dark tunnel is shining a little brighter today.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 17/12/2020 19:22

Well done, op! I think it's amazing that this is taking place. I always love hearing of people being vaccinated against Covid. Best of luck with 6th!

NotGenerationAlpha · 17/12/2020 19:24

This is what keep me going. Being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I understand all about how not everyone has a strong immune response (the effacacy rate), but if enough of us take the vaccine, then as a population, we'll achieve herd immunity. The idea that the covid 19 virus won't be able to spread so easily as now, with a much lowered R number. It's really really great news for all of us.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 19:29

@Jaxhog I hope that she is offered it very soon! I do think that regardless of how much everyone likes to moan about the NHS, having a health system like ours does lend itself nicely to fast vaccine roll outs. I am quite young and all I could think about yesterday was how I would give up my vaccine in a heartbeat for my grandad to have been given it.

Lucky you! I can't wait for mine Smile Love hearing about people getting theirs. It makes it seem real

Tangledtresses · 17/12/2020 19:35

Wooo hoooo great news,
My mum is in a care home and had hers this week too!!
All our local gp surgeries started today too.. light at the end of the tunnel 😃

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 19:41

@Tangledtresses great news! Out of interest how are they vaccinating in care homes? Is it a nurse from one of the local GP surgeries coming in or are the care home staff vaccinating?

ShadowKitty · 17/12/2020 19:44

It's actually amazing tbh - when this all really ramped up back in April I wouldn't have believed I'd be seeing a vaccine rolling out at the beginning of December. It seemed impossible. Incredible work by all the scientists involved.
