I had the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine yesterday!

I had the first dose of the vaccine yesterday evening and wanted to tell someone!

I know that normality is not just around the corner, but today I feel a little bit more hopeful and positive than I have been feeling over recent months. I'm really looking forward to a time where we can all collectively look back on this awful period of time and call it the past rather than the present.

Xmas Smile

Aw yay! Really pleased for you, can't wait for my parents to get it, and myself (albeit a long wait) xxx

Tangledtresses · 17/12/2020 19:49

@TheVeryHungryTortoise
Hi have no idea how they are doing it... they have doctors and nurses onsite as it's a big nursing care home ...

They also told us we could visit soon if we do a covid test at the home.. a finger prick one.... would be nice to see her before Xmas

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 19:53

@ShadowKitty yes, completely agree! I would never have believed it. Even in the summer I remember thinking that a vaccine being rolled out was at least another year away. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who helped with the production of these vaccines!

@Tangledtresses That's so great to hear. It must be a massive relief that you'll soon be able to visit again. I feel for everyone who has been isolated from family this year, and it must have been especially hard in a care home at times.

I love threads like these! It gives me so much hope hearing people have been vaccinated !

madasamarchhare · 17/12/2020 20:05

Just out of interest, how did you qualify for the vaccine? Are you frontline healthcare? Just curious as obviously the older people are first in line but I have heard it will then go to frontline nhs so as not to waste any. But I have also heard of a couple of people receiving it who are neither old nor work for the nhs and I’m curious as to how this is possible.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 17/12/2020 20:09

Amazing OP, so nice to see some light at the end of this long dark tunnel.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 20:18

@madasamarchhare I actually have my hands in a couple of different NHS pots, but this vaccine was specifically offered to me yesterday as I work in a GP practice and they are trying to vaccinate primary care staff in the area. I am also training separately in a central London hospital and have been recruited to be a vaccinator at said hospital, but we haven't heard anything yet about when vaccinating will start there. I know that the GP practice that I work at are hopeful that they may be offering vaccinations by early-mid Jan.

Thanks for clarifying that. Obviously I don’t begrudge anyone the jab and they need to use what they have so they aren’t wasted. So pleased it is actually getting out to people. The first step back to a normal life. Well done to those amazing scientists.

Firefliess · 17/12/2020 20:24

I'm very glad they're vaccinating the vaccinaters. Otherwise they could become superspreaders of Covid as they give us all our jabs!

TheFairyCaravan · 17/12/2020 20:26

DS2 and DDIL, both nurses, had theirs on Monday. They’ve been fine afaik. I can’t wait to get mine done but it’s going to be a long wait I reckon.

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/12/2020 20:29

Wonderful news. Just brilliant Grin

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 20:29

@madasamarchhare I understood what you meant, don't worry. I don't know for sure, but we were told on the day yesterday about the vaccination session and it was in the late afternoon/evening. So I can only assume that you are correct in thinking that it may have been offered to elderly patients earlier in the day and they still had "leftovers" so offered them up to us. I could be wrong with that though.

My Grandad has been living by himself isolated from family since this all began and a part of me feels very guilty and upset that I have received it before him so I completely understand the frustration of many. I like to try and think about it as not only helping to protect the healthcare workers but helping the vulnerable patients that we come into contact with each day.

(singing) ‘All I want for Christmas is...my two shot dose!’

Lucky you, where I live it’ll likely be the Easter Bunny bringing mine, not Santa!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/12/2020 20:33

That is brilliant. Love hearing so many people saying they had their first jab.

It actually makes me smile and I have resting bitch faceSmile

notevenat20 · 17/12/2020 20:53

Congrats! I just wish my 91 year old mum had had hers. Shes still waiting.

Any word at all? I hope you hear something soon!

Jaxhog · 17/12/2020 21:34

@notevenat20 no, not yet.
I am worried that if we don't vaccinate the over 80s, especially the over 90s, that we'll lose them in the Christmas melee.

frankie001 · 17/12/2020 22:06

I had mine yesterday!

Bettydot · 17/12/2020 22:09

This is brilliant news, a post full of hope is just what I needed to read.

sergeantmajormum · 17/12/2020 22:11

Had mine today (frontline NHS) and my 90 year old DFIL had his this afternoon. Amazing organisation in both areas and so grateful to our fabulous scientific community and our NHS. A light at the end of a still long tunnel......

Sway19 · 17/12/2020 22:13

Have you just come here to boast? I’m a frontline nurse with no sign of being vaccinated. Have a little humility

1990s · 17/12/2020 22:29

Yes, Sway that’s exactly what the OP said, she’s come to boast.

Not to give people real time info that NHS staff are getting the vaccine, which might be useful to you as a nurse in a similar position and give others light at the end of a fucking long tunnel...

Hmm
TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 22:45

No, not to boast. I have struggled with my mental health this year, as I am sure many have. Yesterday gave me a little positive boost and talking to a colleague who didn't get offered the vaccine she also felt hopeful at the news. I just thought it might be nice for people to hear that there is real movement on vaccinations.

I am very sorry that you are yet to be vaccinated. There was no news for me until midday yesterday, it was very surprising. So hopefully you will be offered it very soon.

OP posts:
TheVeryHungryTortoise · 17/12/2020 22:48

Also, I put this post in the coronavirus section for that very reason. I didn't want it to be a boast. I knew that people reading this board would probably find it of interest.

OP posts:
Lindy2 · 17/12/2020 22:51

Hearing about people being vaccinated actually gives lots of people some hope and comfort Sway. The vaccinations are really happening and we've started our way out of this awful situation.

The OP seems a very deserving case. She will be a vaccinator, if you read the thread. I hope you get yours soon but don't begrudge others that are having theirs now. It's not as if people have control as to when they get called for it.
