Anyone had a positive test without a temperature and cough?

I’m worried I might have some of the symptoms but I definitely do not have a temperature and not really much of a cough if at all

I’d normally assume a cold but this close to Christmas and meant to be meeting family finally I’m a little nervous to say the least

But I don’t have the symptoms listed to get a test

shamus2020 · 17/12/2020 12:24

I had a headache and earache.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 17/12/2020 12:26

I've got it. I feel pretty rough and am in bed but I do not have a cough or altered taste/smell and I only briefly had a temp on day 1

What I do have is a splitting headache, severe muscle and joint pain and now tummy pain and diarrhoea.

No runny nose or sore throat either. Nothing respiratory at all really.
It feels like a bad dose of flu.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/12/2020 12:27

That would almost suggest that it's a case of 'assume you've got COVID-19' until proven otherwise, with any cold/flu-like symptoms?

DougRossIsTheBoss · 17/12/2020 12:32

Tests are now pretty easily available unlike in September. I logged on to book at 9am and had had the test by 10am

Whether your symptoms are likely to be COVID depends on how much COVID is around ie what is the pre-test probability. In the summer very unlikely. Now a lot more likely.

For me I knew 10 colleagues had tested positive so the chances that I had it were pretty high.

firecracker69 · 17/12/2020 12:33

Yes because actual presentations of mild or ‘asymptomatic’ covid are so vague.

That’s my hospitals current policy. Assume any cold or flu symptom - however mild - is covid until a PCR test says otherwise. All staff and their families, no exceptions. They’ve specifically stated that even if you suspect an existing condition as the cause you still need to test if it’s increased or new.

Cornettoninja · 17/12/2020 12:37

Oh and that includes gastric ‘flu’ symptoms including nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Not here. I had GP appointment two weeks ago for stomach problems. Took stool and blood samples, no Covid test. Blood test shows signs of infection so they've assumed gastro entiritis. And go back in two weeks if not better.
MG2020 · 17/12/2020 12:50

A very interesting thread and a question I asked on another thread, IE, how many people were asymptomatic with Covid.

Sure, many will not get a test but the bottom line IMO is that up to 98% of those infected do get symptoms and its total BS re "asymptomatic" Covid.

The good news, the government is switching off Covid19 from 24/12/20 for 5 days. Sadly, you don't have to look far as the USA and Candian infection rates and death rates shot up massively since their version of Chriskmas four weeks ago, ie Thanksgiving.

Our hospitals in som areas can't managage and millions have had worrying hospital appointments cancelled and the dangerously inept government is advocating up to three houshoulds can mix in a room that mar be 12 feet x 15 feet. for many hours. Eveyone with more than one brain cell will know Covid spreads very quickly in enclosed, confined areas

Merry Xmas.

Mr step daughter at secondary school tells me that everyone at school that's tested positive has just had cold symptoms.
Interesting the poster that said about migraines, I've had a week solid of on off migraine and the rest of us have a cold as well, makes you wonder. None of us have any actual symptoms though so will never know.

CatVsChristmasTree · 17/12/2020 13:05

@MoirasRoses

Yep me. There is no shortage of tests in my area. When I went to book, there were 250 slots at my local walk in area. You could book every 5 minutes from 2pm-7pm. I was the only one there, they said they get a steady stream of people, busier at teatime/evenings but it’s generally quiet. I’m in a tier 3 area.

Anyway, I had cold like symptoms. Congested, slightly sore sinuses/headache, felt strangely tired but we’d just moved house & have young kids who hate sleep. I tested positive last Tuesday. I haven’t had any of the main symptoms at all. I’ve continued to feel like I’ve got a cold. I’ve felt pretty ropey, I still do. It’s really in my sinuses & it hurts. But nothing that would have triggered me to test if I had followed the 3 symptom guidelines. I know SO many people who have had the same symptoms as me and none of the main 3. None of us have any problems with our chests/breathing whatsoever which I find strange .. why is it making some people really ill breathing wise & yet everyone I know, no chest issues at all Confused We are all between 25-40..

I'm wondering whether the new strain is more like a cold? Often viruses mutate to be milder but more contagious. I've got a test booked this afternoon as my cold has developed a mild, intermittent (every 30-60mins cough), but mostly just had a lot of snot and sneezing. Some days feel more ill than others. Started Sunday. DS2 had a typical cold from Wednesday last week, but was very tired and in bed for a few days. OK beginning of this week then got a sore throat Tuesday. DS1 has a sore throat and headache. They've been at school, as none of the 3 symptoms but I will get them tested with me in case it actually is, as it will make school T&T easier. Had cases every day in school this week and going into tier 3 tomorrow.
mistermagpie · 17/12/2020 13:13

My DS tested positive and all he had was a sore stomach and felt tired, nothing else.

(We got him tested because he had been in very close contact with someone who tested positive, before the test police jump on me)

ShanKayak · 17/12/2020 13:15

If you try to get a test where we are in tier 2, the website asks if you have one of the symptoms. We just feel rubbish, uncomfy tum, and headachy. No fever, no cough, no loss of smell. We would have to lie to get a test. Obsessively airing house and washing hands.

madcatladyforever · 17/12/2020 13:17

Yes, a couple of NHS staff here, no symptoms at all.

Cornettoninja · 17/12/2020 13:24

@VanGoghsDog I can’t really comment on why your GP wouldn’t test for covid right now with a bad stomach virus (possibly you presented after already having it for a couple of weeks?) but it’s been well known since early on that covid presents as a gastric illness in a small but significant number of people.

The reports of covid being in circulation earlier than thought are partly a result of sewage samples.

Lifeispassingby · 17/12/2020 13:26

Although there are no problems getting tests he more tests being done the longer he wait for results and the more disruption people have to endure whilst waiting

MaddieElla · 17/12/2020 13:34

I've got what feels like a tight chest. No coughing whatsoever and no other symptoms.

Surely if it was covid and present enough to cause chest tightness I'd be coughing too. So I don't think I have it but tempted to get a test anyway reading this thread.

firecracker69 · 17/12/2020 13:44

My symptoms, for the first 5 days, were mild, just like a bad head cold. No temperature or cough. Then from day 5 I felt awful.... 5 day migraine with extreme sickness. I'm left with limited taste or smell, 3 weeks later and a very annoying buzzing in my ear.

MadameBlobby · 17/12/2020 13:44

So would everyone test with cold symptoms then?
I’ve kept my eldest off school anyway. Don’t think it’s right to be spreading even a cold deliberately just now

I still think I could have had it right at the start of all this

firecracker69 · 17/12/2020 13:55

I just started with cold like symptoms. I was sure I'd be negative but I was already in isolation, having been in contact with someone positive.

DivGirl · 17/12/2020 13:55

Look at the testing stats - there’s a huge reduction in the numbers of people going for tests (presumably so they don’t have to isolate for Christmas). I’d just go for a test if you’re worried.

I was tested yesterday (DD had a cough - although only until we got to the testing centre and didn’t cough once for the rest of the day). Results within 10 hours. Testing centre was relatively empty.

firecracker69 · 17/12/2020 13:59

I got my results within hours. It's better to know isn't it?

VanGoghsDog · 17/12/2020 14:05

I did expect her to at least do that as well as the other tests. Yes, I spoke to the GP on week three, I'm now on week five. I did feel very tired as well but that is diminishing now and things are starting to feel a bit better.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 17/12/2020 14:33

I think you have to look at a range of factors

If your symptoms are not typical but you have been in contact with someone positive then definitely test anyway
Or if you are in a high risk area/ lots of cases at your kids school.

If you are in a Tier 1 area with no known positive contacts then not so much.

cactusisblooming · 17/12/2020 14:36

Whole family had it, none of typical COVID symptoms. We had very sore backs and limbs, as the days went on tummy turned funny and had stomach acid.
