Anyone had a positive test without a temperature and cough?

I’m worried I might have some of the symptoms but I definitely do not have a temperature and not really much of a cough if at all

I’d normally assume a cold but this close to Christmas and meant to be meeting family finally I’m a little nervous to say the least

But I don’t have the symptoms listed to get a test

@Pinksmartie230316

That was in reply to Dowhatyoudowell. Haven't worked out how to quote yet!
I’m on the mobile site but there are three little dots in the lower right corner of every post, if you click/tap that it gives you the option to quote a poster. I don’t think it lets you quote a post with a quote though Xmas Smile

I had a runny nose, then developed a horrible headache. 24 hours later lost sense of smell so could test. That was it symptom wise and didn't feel particularly unwell, just a bit of a horrible headache!

Chaotic45 · 17/12/2020 10:41

I'm really questioning the government's insistence that people only test with 3 main symptoms after our experience this week.

A colleague of DH's felt unwell last Saturday with high temp. Tested Sunday, positive result Tuesday.

All 20 of his colleagues received a lateral flow test as a precaution on Tuesday evening. No one felt particularly unwell, although some were very tired but put it down to work. 11 positives including DH. All 11 took a second lateral flow and all were still positive.

Following day another 4 had positive lateral flow tests.

This morning another 2 had positive lateral flow tests.

So that's 17 out of 20 people is one workplace who have tested positive. All lateral flow tests have had or booked regular tests and all have come back positive so far.

Several are now feeling unwell, DH feels tired and achey but no classic symptoms atm.

Their work place has taken expensive and extreme measures to be Covid secure but it is clear something has gone wrong!

It's mind boggling!

Girlonatubetrain2 · 17/12/2020 10:50

We have all flu symtoms - sore throat, sneezing, runny nose, aching body, lethargic
Couldnt book a test as weren't showing any of the top 3 symptoms
Even when we claimed to have 1 of the 3, system still said we didnt need a test unless we had a referral.
For me and DC - its fine, isolating anyway.
For DH who works with the public; lied that he had a symptom and a referral - only then would it allow him to book a test.
Came back positive.
I am sure we all have it

SandysMam · 17/12/2020 10:56

Positive test, cold symptoms only here (then cough etc). Got a test as super paranoid, positive. The doc says that more and more people are reporting cold symptoms only.

SandysMam · 17/12/2020 10:57

The governments 3 symptom insistence is why this thing is out of control if you ask me!

MoirasRoses · 17/12/2020 10:58

Yep me. There is no shortage of tests in my area. When I went to book, there were 250 slots at my local walk in area. You could book every 5 minutes from 2pm-7pm. I was the only one there, they said they get a steady stream of people, busier at teatime/evenings but it’s generally quiet. I’m in a tier 3 area.

Anyway, I had cold like symptoms. Congested, slightly sore sinuses/headache, felt strangely tired but we’d just moved house & have young kids who hate sleep. I tested positive last Tuesday. I haven’t had any of the main symptoms at all. I’ve continued to feel like I’ve got a cold. I’ve felt pretty ropey, I still do. It’s really in my sinuses & it hurts. But nothing that would have triggered me to test if I had followed the 3 symptom guidelines. I know SO many people who have had the same symptoms as me and none of the main 3. None of us have any problems with our chests/breathing whatsoever which I find strange .. why is it making some people really ill breathing wise & yet everyone I know, no chest issues at all Confused We are all between 25-40..

@Dowhatyoudowell

Can I ask why you are all having a test when you don’t have the specific symptoms stated on the NHS website that qualifies you to have a test?

This is why there has been some horrendous problems for those with the actual symptoms getting a test.

I haven’t had a test but we’re in a tier 3 area and they’re asking everyone to test, not just those with the 3 symptoms.
MoirasRoses · 17/12/2020 11:01

Just get a test I say. At the end of the day, people can judge ‘you are wasting tests’ except you aren’t if you test positive are you. You are helping society! They seriously need to re-look at the symptoms, the lack of the main 3 symptoms seems incredibly common!

Mammaaof · 17/12/2020 11:05

@Dowhatyoudowell well it's lucky we did really isn't it otherwise 4 of is would have been spreading it everywhere!!

MadameBlobby · 17/12/2020 11:09

Me my husband and my eldest all had colds this past week. Didn’t test as none of the symptoms. Colds are still going around. Given we were/are all fine within a day or 2 I can’t imagine it was Covid anyway.

amicissimma · 17/12/2020 11:10

While it's hard to match the number of positives with the number of tests because of the variation in times the results come back, looking at the daily figures it seems about 6-7% of tests are positive. Which means that over 90% of people who get a test, for whatever reason, get a negative result. So I wouldn't worry too much about getting a test if you're not sure you've got Covid.

TheInfected · 17/12/2020 11:13

FFS read other threads... Y. E. S fucking yes!!!!

Chaotic45 · 17/12/2020 11:14

In my area a test was so easy to get . At 8pm there were slots for tests every 15 minutes the next day and DH was allowed to take 2 asymptomatic householders with him. So I went (but is a separate vehicle) .

Maybe this is a benefit of being in an ear with a high infection rate since forever- tests have become easy to get.

yarncakes · 17/12/2020 11:15

15 staff at my workplace had none of the symptoms listed, some of them just had a sore throat and some had a headache.

kirktonhouse · 17/12/2020 11:16

Yes, shitloads of people all over the world, that's why this virus is so bloody good at it's job and is why the fewer people that you see, the less chance you have of contracting it.

It's been around long enough for everyone to know this. I despair.

ZaphodBeeblerox · 17/12/2020 11:21

Yes! I had acute sinusitis but none of the other symptoms. DD had a stuffy nose and no other symptoms. Only DH had a mild fever on one day. But we all had covid.

We got tested privately because we wouldn’t qualify for NHS tests. But this was a few months ago and we were due to go see a family friend who would be classed as ECV and with the slight suspicion we wanted to make sure we weren’t carrying it to them. Again, allowed under the rules at the time.

Onedropbeat · 17/12/2020 11:24

This is actually quite scary.
The whole time school has been open they’ve told kids must go in even with snotty noses and sneezes, but this thread shows it’s not just coughs and high temperatures

OP posts:
Chaotic45 · 17/12/2020 11:28

@Onedropbeat I completely agree. I've send DS to school with snotty nose and sore throat because I was told to. But my experience this week has shown me once and for all that is not that simple.

I can understand why the emphasis was on the 'key' three symptoms at a time when test available was limited, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. At least not in my area.

The key to me seems to be to roll out more routine testing.

Bluepiano · 17/12/2020 11:31

This is why there has been some horrendous problems for those with the actual symptoms getting a test.

But they obviously are ACTUAL symptoms if people are testing positive with them. The fault lies with the rule that you can only get a test if you have one of those three specific symptoms. Clearly, there are far more symptoms of the illness. My main one was horribly blocked sinuses. I only Lost my sense of taste and smell 3 days after id taken the test. If I’d waited, the children I teach and staff I’d been in contact with, would have isolated too late and many more people could have potentially caught the virus.
ConfusedcomMum · 17/12/2020 11:32

Yes, my first symptoms were what felt like a severe tension headache (trying to look up was painful) and lower back (kidney) pains.

ginandvomit · 17/12/2020 11:40

You do realise the fact they tested, meant that they could discover they were positive and isolate to prevent further spread. It's irrelevant how sick they were, if they hadn't tested they likely would have spread it.
SlipperyLizard · 17/12/2020 11:46

I had no temperature or cough, did lose my sense of smell and felt very tired. DH similar except he coughed a little one morning which prompted the test.

Livedandlearned · 17/12/2020 11:50

I find the three main symptoms thing frustrating too. DH and I both tested positive without the main symptoms. We both just knew we felt pretty ill and went for a test.

Pipandmum · 17/12/2020 12:13

Two friends tested positive and only had mild symptoms and no cough. Probably wouldn't have thought anything of it in normal times, but one works in a school and both have school age kids. And @dowhatyoudowell the testing centre is not mobbed and better safe than sorry - both these women just felt a bit off but luckily they got tested!
