Reception DD has a cold

4 yo DD is in reception. There was been a Covid case in her year 3 weeks ago, but not her class bubble. It's the last week of term.

She has what seems like a mild cold coming on. Sounds nasal, a couple of sneezes, and clearing her throat first thing in the morning. None of the 3 Covid symptoms and none of the other main ones that seem to be reported in children - e.g. headache, tummy upset, fatigue.

DP thinks she should go in. I'm in teo minds. Would you send her in and all the rest of us go to school and work, or keep us all home and lie to get her a test?

I'd keep her home. Covid symptoms are mild in children and present often as 'just a cold'

Send her in. She doesn't have any symptoms of Covid so doesn't qualify for a test. She has a cold the same as 99% of our population will at some point over winter and we can't just stop. The guided symptom checkers are there to be complied with both if you DO show the symptoms and when you don't.

Difficult decision to make, I would keep her off and see how she is tomorrow. With my children they would often wake up with sniffles, that would go later in the day. You wouldn’t want to spread anything, cold or covid. But if you are worried, get a test and then all of you have to isolate until you get results.

I sent my Yr1 DD in with a cold. She had none of the three symptoms. No one said anything.

At the moment I think its more responsible to keep her home and get her a test. There are so many different symptoms, its hard to tell.
