should dd isolate?

Dd is Y9.
On Saturday we got an email from school at 5.30 to say that someone in 'the student body' has tested positive for C10 but is not a close contact of Dd so she doesnt need to isolate.
But her best friend has an email saying she does. They are in the same classes, sit next to each other all day and at lunch (and both go to same SEN group at lunch). Surely dd should isolate too then?

The School is very poor at comms and both ds and dd say that social distancing is non existent in class and in corridors / lunchtimes.

I would email back and query. These kind of issues are been dealt with over the weekend.

It may be that the contact was sat on the other side next to your DD's friend at some point in class or lunch etc.

Unless your daughter was identified as a close contact of the infected child (not the friend) then there is no need for her to SI.

But if you are concerned, you could query this.

PurpleDaisies · 13/12/2020 19:07

There could be a different contact such as a bus. I wouldn’t isolate her.

52andblue · 13/12/2020 19:15

Yes those are all good points, thank you.

but if I phone / email this school I'd be lucky to get a reply in a week, yet alone same morning.

Students are not required to socially distance within their bubbles.
I would email nonetheless.

I emailed DHT at 9.05 saying I was keeping her home awaiting clearer guidance. Rang and left message on school answerphone too.
I got 2 Schoolgateway texts at 11.30 - where is she?
I replied and referenced the email.
I got a phone call at 1.30 - where is she? I referenced email and both schoolgateway text replies.
At 2.30 an email to say please could she isolate as in close contact with 2 confirmed cases.
At 3.30 an email to say whole year to isolate.

Why are you commenting that there is no social distancing in classes or corridors or lunchtimes?

Of course there isn't.

How could there possibly be?

Starlightstarbright1 · 15/12/2020 01:13

Gosh op.

Is communication usually this bar or is it the stress they are under?

52andblue · 16/12/2020 10:03

@Starlightstarbright1

Yes, it's appalling all the time. Special Measures Academy.

@Bluegreen70

Agreed re the impossibility of proper SD in a High School.
I think it's more that there doesn't seem to be much attempt to try?

You do know that secondaries have to keep bubbles apart, but that students are not expected to distance within the bubble, don't you?

52andblue · 18/12/2020 10:16

@MrsChristmasHamlet

I do but kids in this school are not very compliant about masks / not touching / sharing pens etc /even licking each other, either within year group bubbles or between bubbles.
