Covid 19 vaccine vaccination numbers, why won't they tell us?

MG2020 · 13/12/2020 14:09

I've been looking for a few days about the number of people vaccinated in the UK. However, this appears to be some kind of secret.

Does anyone know how many people have been vaccinated and how many vaccinations we have in the UK and what we can expect by mid Jan 2021?

I fear this secrecy means that things are not going to plan and when Matt Hancock said the other day that tens of thousands of people had been vaccinated, it was far from true.

You may recall the figures about Covid 19 tests when we were told x amount of tests were carried out but they failed to declare that everyone had at least two tests and many NHS staff and others in hospital were being tested several times a day therefore 100k tests may have been 20k tests in reality.

I want the jab and so do our children but both are severely allergic so we are praying for others to come on line ASAP.

The army are already involved in the distribution of the vaccine and the construction of the mass vaccination centres. I would imagine the biggest problem is the U.K. getting their hands on sufficient supplies when every country wants their share.

IcedPurple · 17/12/2020 14:24

We need about three million people vaccinated daily

Really? How big do you think the population of the UK is?

The USA are jabbing hundreds of thousands daily.

Have you got a source for this? Also worth pointing out that the population of the US is 5 times that of the UK.

By contrast, the EU haven't even got round to approving the vaccine yet. They were going to wait until after Xmas - not like there's a global emegency or anything - until Angela Merkel gave them a kick up the collective backside.

Waspnest · 17/12/2020 14:26

I think you're so desperate to stick the knife into the government that you don't give a shit about the facts or figures.

Just be honest.

It's not just front line NHS staff who have (so far) done a great job. The logistics of this vaccination must have been a nightmare but so far many people, not just the doctors and nurses have done their job well. The regulators have been efficient, the managers in charge of distribution seem to have been organised and efficient. What do you want all those people to have done differently?

Or is your argument not about vaccination at all?

sashagabadon · 17/12/2020 14:33

The US only started their vaccinations on Monday so how do any of us know how many they have done in the past 3 days?
I have no doubt however that they will move quickly over the next couple of months just like we are.
The EU haven’t even approved the vaccine yet so they’ve vaccinated nobody yet but again I am sure once they finally do get their arses into gear shortly before or after Xmas, they too will get as many people vaccinated as fast as they can too.
All great news as we need as many people as possible to be vaccinated as soon as possible Smile

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/12/2020 14:39

We need about three million people vaccinated daily to have 80% jabbed by June - this will never happen, sadly.

Really, your numbers are out by a very long way!

GoldenOmber · 17/12/2020 14:42

We need about three million people vaccinated daily to have 80% jabbed by June - this will never happen, sadly.

That would mean about 500 million jabs by June. Just how many people do you think there are in the country?

Aposterhasnoname · 17/12/2020 15:03

You need a new calculator. And why do people spouting scare mongering bollox always put “sadly” or “I’m afraid” in their posts.

Because they think it gives them an air of authority they do not possess.

@DougRossIsTheBoss

Why so cross with her just relating her experience?

I thought is was interesting too.

Probably just another person annoyed things sound like they are going well

A lot of that about lately. I can only assume they are either so anti Gov that they would rather the vaccine fail, anti vax in general, desperate to argue with someone or probably just a rather rude person in general.

Maybe we should all just give them a rudeness medal

Waspnest · 17/12/2020 15:16

All this bollocks would be laughable if it weren't for the fact that some people read it and actually believe it and then post it on Facebook claiming that their second-cousin-once-removed who has a biology CSE said it so it must be true .

Waspnest · 17/12/2020 15:20

I must admit that I am getting whinge-fatigue with regards to MN. I should probably stick to chat or FWR. Is there a lovely Playmobile Advent this year anywhere?

GoldenOmber · 17/12/2020 15:21

Perhaps the trick is to realise they’re seeing this as bad news, and reframe things going well in that kind of “I’m afraid”/“sadly”-speak?

Trying it out:

^Sadly, the vaccination programmes are probably going to go work pretty well. People need to have realistic expectations of the rapid speed at which a massive vaccination programme can move. We have been told very clearly from the start that science was the route out of this. Normal life is coming back sooner rather than later I’m afraid. This time next year, we’ll be looking back on this all as a hideous memory as we all celebrate in big parties, hugging our families. Sorry.”

Waspnest · 17/12/2020 15:22

I like that!

Leaannb · 17/12/2020 15:23

@MG2020...The US is not jabbing hundreds of thousands daily. Most states haven't received the vaccine at all yet and the ones that have is major cities. Vaccinating the rural areas is going to be a huge issue. No way to keep it cold enough...We had extremely high numbers before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving certainly didn't help but its not the cause of our high numbers

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/12/2020 15:27

GoldenOmber- love it!

Waspnest - Playmobil thread 3. SoMuch is doing sterling work. The Playmo people are busy getting vaccinated, going to the post office and doing winter sports, all with constant smiles on their faces.

Also, throwing out random dates with zero explanation.

I've pointed out once already that the 137,000 didnt include the gp rollout that has already started and although I got over enthusiastic with the numbers that should be another 90,000+ this week.

Funny how the deliberately miserable ignore that.

Theres been a lot of people on MN who knew and could see exactly what was happening back in January and tried to warn everyone. I imagine they are behind the scenes with Chris WHitty and Steven Powell etc.

(I'm afraid) I think some might be a tad disappointed that the vaccine has arrived before the "I told you so" badges....

alreadytaken · 17/12/2020 16:33

@Hobbesmanc thank you for relating your experience, felt I needed to counter that negativity too.

Yes, I am aware that Thanksgiving does not directly relate to the UK but is must be a warning that Thanksgiving quadrupled figures and the other night the USA had almost 4000 people dying one day as opposed to the several hundreds the proceeding weeks.

NHS staff already over worked and millions begging for their hospital appts but the Chrishmast switch off of Covid will many many more canclled appoints and illness and deaths.

not one doctor or scientist has back the jokers plans re xmas, why is that?

" I am aware that Thanksgiving does not directly relate to the UK but is must be a warning that Thanksgiving quadrupled figures and the other night the USA had almost 4000 people dying one day as opposed to the several hundreds the proceeding weeks."

Again, I think you are out there somewhat. Whilst US rates have continued to grow over the past month, there is no evidence that Thanksgiving had any sort of extreme affect, as cases were already growing and have continued steadily since then.

7 day average of cases on Nov 18th were 159k, Nov 25 were 173k, Dec 3 were 174k, ( expected holiday drop); Dec 10 208k; and latest up to Dec 16 is 211k. So yes growing, but no massive impact from TG.

No massive kickup from Thanksgiving.

You wouldn't expect to see any impact on deaths from TG just yet, but again, at present, the strong line up has been fairly consistently steep since the end of October.
