Diarrhoea as first symptom

Has anyone had diarrhoea as their first sign of Covid ? I have been so careful and don’t go into shops or socialise but I’ve been ill today with diarrhoea.

Might be something you ate? Or the fact you're stressed.

MistletoeandGin · 12/12/2020 13:57

Diarrhoea has many, many causes. Why would your first thought be Covid?

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/12/2020 13:59

Yes it was for me (I initially lost my appetite and had horrendous diarrhoea ). Lots of things can cause diarrhoea though.

I suggest you sit tight (no pun intended) and see how things go. It's incredibly rare to have COVID and just have diarrhoea so either more symptoms will show up or (hopefully) they won't.

Maisieme · 12/12/2020 13:59

I haven’t had anything suspicious to eat. I guess because Covid is so much in the news I wondered if anyone else had started Covid this way. I’m not at all stressed..

I guess I just have to see how it goes.

Following this, as I have come down with cold symptoms (runny nose/sore throat) and diarrhoea, but none of the testable "Big 3".

Staying in, just in case.

PowerslidePanda · 12/12/2020 16:27

There's a weird diarrhoea bug doing the rounds at the moment - there was a thread about it a couple of weeks ago. 3 in my house have had it. Our main symptoms were diarrhoea and sore throat - one person also had a brief fever, so had a covid test, which was negative - same for other people on the thread about it.

LilyE1234 · 12/12/2020 16:31

It was my main symptom when I tested positive. Was horrendous and kept me up all night.

I did also have an on and off fever though.

dumbledory · 12/12/2020 16:32

@PowerslidePanda

That's both disheartening and a relief to hear. Such a strange combo...sore throat and diarrhoea. I've never experienced both at once before.

I trust your family are feeling better now.

Do you happen to have the link for the thread you mentioned please?

RosesforMama · 12/12/2020 16:39

I had loss of appetite, watery diarrhea and racing heart followed by back ache, sore throat, thick mucus, runny nose, dizziness and then feeling of having breathed in chili, cough, plus weeks of indigestion. This was back in March.

Mind you I just had a negative antibody test so maybe it wasn't covid.

PowerslidePanda · 12/12/2020 17:26

@dumbledory - I know! It was definitely a viral thing (the people in my house caught in one after another over several days) and because it was such a weird combination of symptoms, I was quite surprised when the covid test came back negative!

I think I've found the thread I was referring to but reading it back, my family were the only ones on that one who got tested, so there's another similar thread somewhere!

My other half did but there was a cough and a temperature the next day. The only way to know for sure is a test.

Happyhetty · 12/12/2020 18:55

My dd did-her and 7 others were sent home from school with a ‘stomach bug’. Next day one tested positive so we tested her and she was positive. She has also had severe fatigue, had a cough for one day and 16 days later developed altered taste and smell. One by one they all tested positive with the first symptom being the diarrhoea and stomach pain.
We wouldn’t have tested without one of the 3 named symptoms had her friend not been positive. I’ve since heard of multiple cases wheee the first symptom was a stomach upset.

AGirlCalledJohnny · 12/12/2020 18:59

This is whipping around here (in US), sore throat, headache and diarrhoea, my daughter just had it and was really unwell for a week. Tested negative for flu and Covid but wasn’t tested for strep, half of her friends from school had the same and some of them tested positive for strep. It’s a nasty bug, I hope you feel better soon

AGirlCalledJohnny · 12/12/2020 18:59

The sore throat wasn’t bad and only lasted a day, the tummy problems were off and on for 5/6 days though

bathsh3ba · 12/12/2020 19:32

I had mild diarrhoea 3 days ago and have had a bit of an uncomfortable stomach since but no other symptoms other than not wanting to eat a lot. My DD11 had 2 days of a tummyache but no d or v. DD13 completely fine. We haven't tested but I'm keeping an eye out for a fever/cough or any other symptoms. I'm assuming that since nothing else has materialised it's unlikely to be coronavirus but we have isolated the past 3 days anyway just in case.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/12/2020 19:34

It was for me and my daughter. Liquid fire that lasted for days. It was fucking awful. Added to that were the body aches and a splitting headache. Five or 6 days after our symptoms began my daughter lost her sense of smell and taste, as well.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/12/2020 19:35

To add, neither of us ever had a cough or fever.

Ken1976 · 12/12/2020 20:21

My daughter had diarrhoea after about 4 days and so did I .

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 12/12/2020 22:19

Yes. It started and I had chills and sore throat with it and went straight to bed. Stayed there 4 weeks and sick another 2.

amicissimma · 12/12/2020 22:25

A sore throat and diarrhoea is common with adenovirus. i don't know if there's much of that about at the moment.

TheRubyRedshoes · 12/12/2020 23:13

Yes 1st symptoms dioreha but sharp pains, d and then a week later loss of smell etc
