Has Boris got the balls to cancel Xmas for London?

Obviously the answer is no, but the huge increase in cases in London should tell anyone it's not a good idea for Xmas mixing. How high will the rates go before he has to step in?

I think rather than cancel Xmas for the worst hit areas the only thing he would do is cancel Xmas mixing for everyone and do a complete u turn rather than single London out.
If however the North west still had high rates he would have no hesitation In stopping the north west mixing at Xmas but allowed other areas to mix.

'The only people who are going to be stupid enough to mix in ‘Christmas bubbles’ are those who would have done it anyway, regardless of the rules. They’ve only made the exceptions so they don’t look fucking stupid when people realise they don’t have the man power to enforce any of it'

My household is joining for one other over Christmas. Both from low numbers areas. We're going to self isolate from 15th until 23rd to minimise possible cross infection.

I don't consider that stupid.

I’ve had a few conversations with people who are really happy the rule means they can see family. They wouldn’t have done it anyway. I don’t blame them about the happy part. Although I think overall the policy is a mistake waiting to happen.

@NellWilsonsWhiteHair,what an interesting and articulate summing up of the situation.Exactly correct in my opinion.

BunsyGirl · 12/12/2020 09:35

@Napqueen1234 so you dodged the question again. You told a fib to try to prove your point. Do you think that helps the situation? The anti-London rhetoric that I am seeing at the moment is disgraceful. We’re talking about some of the most deprived areas of the country getting testing because a problem has been identified and people have an issue with that. I didn’t hear any anti-Liverpool rhetoric when mass testing was introduced there.

PhilCornwall1 · 12/12/2020 09:35

If he U-turned, which to be honest he's an expert at, how many are really going to pay any attention to him?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2020 09:41

Bunsygirl, do you live in London?

Do you have any idea how monumentally fucked off the north and midlands are with how they are being treated? Many many areas of the north are dreadfully deprived. No mass testing in schools there. Manchester was rife with it.

One rule for London and Johnson’s cronies and one rule for the north and midlands.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2020 09:47

In fact, London and the SE are the only area that matters.

The rest of the country is just like some Covid wasteland. Unimportant and unconsidered. So much for levelling up. I live near some red wall places who turned into a blue wall. They are being destroyed again. Just like Thatcher.

I don’t think many of Johnson’s cronies hang out in Newham or Tower Hamlets to be honest. I did like the ranting on another thread saying it was because Tory mps kids go to these schools. If there is a Tory Mp with a child in a Tower Hamlets school I’ll eat my hat.

Anyway mass testing being rolled out across 67 councils across the country - www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9045445/Councils-England-Tier-3-restrictions-roll-rapid-community-Covid-testing.html

Agreed. Tier 3 Birmingham and Walsall also have some of the most deprived areas in the country (Walsall routinely topped the 'Covid poverty index' list this year (can't remember exact title) , yet no mass testing while schools are decimated with cases, five self isolations for my DC and Covid. 10%.of class with it. This is why we are angry.
BunsyGirl · 12/12/2020 09:55

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow No, I don’t live in London, although I have in the past. I am from the North so I understand how some people perceive London to be a place where the streets are lined with gold. It’s bollocks. But poor people in London don’t matter, do they?!

BunsyGirl · 12/12/2020 09:57

@middleager but you were fine with Liverpool gettting testing because that’s in the North?!!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2020 09:59

Poor people matter everywhere. That’s the point. But only poor people in London schools get mass testing. Because it’s London and only London matters.

Yes, I don’t remember thread after thread of people moaning about Liverpool getting tested.

I just posted a link to a newspaper article showing 67 places that are not London that are getting the testing rolled out...
Napqueen1234 · 12/12/2020 10:03

@BunsyGirl for goodness sake no one is saying poor people in London don’t matter Hmm what they’re saying is the exact same increase in cases has been seen over vast swathes of the country for significantly more time yet nothing is done. No one begrudged Liverpool having intervention as they were in crisis but why wasn’t this rolled out to other areas that also needed it? As soon as London’s levels have risen they’ve started mass testing in SOME secondary schools. I am from near London and now am in the north and the London centricity thing isn’t rhetoric it’s a fact.

Yes 👏🏽
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2020 10:10

Nancy 75.

I live bang in the middle of the north and midlands. Loads of deprived areas around me. I would define really deprived as the ‘blue wall that was red’

None of them getting testing.

BunsyGirl · 12/12/2020 10:10

@Napqueen1234 so you’ve just said that no one begrudges Liverpool but they do begrudge London!!!

BunsyGirl · 12/12/2020 10:18

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow why would
Johnson and his cronies favour London boroughs controlled by Labour?!!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2020 10:21

Because it’s London and therefore more important than anywhere else. And his vile mates have their sticky fingers in pies all over London. Shitty landlords etc.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/12/2020 10:26

And the fact that I’m on here arguing about it is indicative of the strength of feeling where I live. ( in t’North )

Fury isn’t a strong enough word.

BunsyGirl · 12/12/2020 10:37

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow have they got lots of investments in Liverpool too?!!

And as a Northerner I am very aware of the ill feeling that some Northerners have to London and the South in general. I have seen it with my own eyes with the disgraceful way some Northerners have treated my London born DH.

Napqueen1234 · 12/12/2020 10:38

@BunsyGirl the issue with London is that the north have been in that situation of rising cases for months. They were put into tier 3 and left. London stays in tier 2 and is now getting intervention that the north badly needs. When Liverpool was chosen to pioneer the mass testing it was with the understanding that if successful it would be expanded across tier 3 areas. So yes there is a feeling is huge unfairness in the way it’s been handled.

middleager · 12/12/2020 10:41
@middleager but you were fine with Liverpool gettting testing because that’s in the North?!!
I want all areas of need to get this, but when Liverpool was receiving tests, this was weeks ago and we assumed this would be rolled out to areas crying out for this.

I've been on all the school threads for months voicing concerns over the crisis here.

We have been left to fester here and elsewhere. So why are we being forgotten?

Thank you for articulating how I feel, far better than my post did!
