If a family member tests positive - from Monday do the family now have to isolate the for 14 or 10 days?

10 days

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 15:00

My understanding is that if you're living with someone who has tested positive, you're supposed to isolate for 14 days.

I understand 10 www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55274147

HallFloor · 11/12/2020 15:03

When/what has changed?

10 days from the onset of symptoms for the "victim" and 14 days for the rest of the household.

Unless it's a very new change and the guidance hasn't been updated

Lumene · 11/12/2020 15:07

It is a new change due today I thought 10 for anyone now

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 15:09

Oh yes, shortened from 14 to 10 days on Monday.

I might be being cynical, but it looks like that's a political move so that Johnson can continue his crusade to 'save Xmas' rather than based on anything vaguely scientific or public health related.

trunumber · 11/12/2020 15:10

I read the BBC article but wasn't sure if close contacts meant close contact in an test and trace way or in a 'living with the person' way

Sorry from Monday coming ie 14th.

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 15:11

Yes, I think you're right. It's 'contacts' shortened to 10 days, doesn't seem to be household.

Thorilicious · 11/12/2020 15:26

Is it 10 days if you are currently isolating due to contact? Currently on day 8, so do I only need to isolate for 2 more days?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 11/12/2020 15:31

It's 10 days for everyone now

EasterIssland · 11/12/2020 15:31

As per the link from bbc I’ve posted above Self-isolation for contacts of people with confirmed coronavirus will be shortened from 14 to 10 days across the UK from Monday.
