Are you ready for another 6 months of restrictions ?

Does anybody think that this will all be normal by March/April, no more masks or restrictions ?
Ready to 'do your bit' and not see family and friends and have restrictions on your lives until potentially summer ?

Terrified about what state my mental health will be in by then. I can't do this until summer.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/12/2020 19:38

No I don’t think we will be normal by then and yes prepared to stick to the rules. We can see friends and family outdoors and there’s an abundance of technology to keep in touch with them as well.

I’d rather we didnt lose any more people to this virus and better people have an economy and less social mixing than no economy.

Offtothedogs · 10/12/2020 19:42

What point are you trying to make OP?

Xtfc123 · 10/12/2020 19:43

I am like many people fed up with endless restrictions and don't know why more people don't question it. I honestly believe that some people on here would be willing to have years of restrictions if it were to come to that and would blindly accept it all.

Not by march.

I am getting perturbed by, he story's that even next year long after we have all been vaccinated they are still wanting us to wear masks, social distancing ect, I go sort of think we'll what's the point.

Offtothedogs · 10/12/2020 19:48

Ah I see. Yes I broadly agree with you, I think.

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2020 19:49

No, they can fuck off now

kittensarecute · 10/12/2020 19:50

If that's true that I don't see the point of being here, I might as well end it all now.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/12/2020 19:51

I don’t understand why they are saying that. Other diseases don’t get this level of attention.

If the elderly and at risk have been vaccinated why do we need to distance and wear masks? Even Bojo disagreed with Van Tam over that one.

RaininSummer · 10/12/2020 19:52

I don't think we will all be vaccinated by Spring so restrictions will need to continue I imagine.

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 19:52

@kittensarecute I really hope you're ok, I don't think it will come to that, have you spoken to anyone about how you feel ?

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 19:53

I don't trust Whitty, Vallence, Hancock and Van Tam one little bit.

FreshFreesias · 10/12/2020 19:53

I agree OP.

Crazycatlady83 · 10/12/2020 19:54

Yesterday I saw a article stating that if 38% of the country (so all over 65s) are vaccinated, that would cut 94% of deaths. Do I think restrictions should be / will be in place if the rate falls this low, no. You can be worried about “long covid” and being vulnerable, but I don’t think the NHS would be overwhelmed and therefore, I don’t think the government would be able to justify restrictions if the rate dropped this low.

Do I think the government can get their act together to supply enough vaccines by March / April - who knows, we can only live in hope over expectation.

The problem with endless restrictions, with no light at the end of the tunnel and job losses / crisis in non-covid health, mental health problem, is you have to have the majority of the public abiding by it. Clearly they aren’t because cases are rising in lots of areas.

I think the longer it goes on, the more people will “bend” the rules. No amount of pleading will stop that. The government will have to be thinking this (if not, they are even more bloody stupid than we think/know)

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 19:54

I think some people enjoy being told what to do and having these rules to follow. They also enjoy telling others what to do and trying to police them.

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 19:55

The cases are going back up and we have only been out of lockdown for a week.

Thespidersweb · 10/12/2020 19:59

No I think we are going to have another year of it. I read an article at the beginning of the epidemic where a scientist said to expect it to be here for two years as that’s when it’s normally burnt it self out by.

We’ve been through many of these before. It’s not the first and won’t be the last. It’s not even the worst one we’ve had. It’s just that SM wasn’t around before and people just got on with their lives.

Crazycatlady83 · 10/12/2020 20:00

@Wigisfashion83

But surely that means lockdown hasn’t worked? Indeed, cases were going down before England went into lockdown. Is lockdown now a blunt tool given we know a lot more about the virus than we did in March? Why aren’t we using the Nightingale hospitals (they were built in April / May), why haven’t the government thought about how these would be staffed in the last 9 months? I think it’s the lack of answers to really straight forward questions that are getting people down.

I can't do this for another year, I just can't no way.
IncidentsandAccidents · 10/12/2020 20:01

I think this is scaremongering to be honest. Yes, there may be restrictions for several more months but they won't be as severe as now. I think we'll be able to do a lot more by April/May.

Againstmachine · 10/12/2020 20:02

I don't trust Whitty, Vallence, Hancock and Van Tam one little bit.

Yep when Vallance and Whitty did the press conference with fake figures to suit their own story was when a lot of trust was lost.

AlwaysLatte · 10/12/2020 20:03

I don't blindly accept the restrictions. I have my eyes wide open and am seeing the devastation this virus is causing. So I'm following the restrictions and will do until it's safer. Years down the line we won't remember so much the lack of nights out at the pub for a year but we'll remember our loved ones' deaths forever.

Boiledegger · 10/12/2020 20:05

It plain old sucks but what can we do? If we're lucky we will get some relief by summer I think. Until then it will be more of the same. The Oxford trial is unbelievably fucked and poorly done and the uk didn't order enough of the other two vaccines.

Nope. I just can't do it, its been nine months without doing what I love most and I'm done.
Ginger1982 · 10/12/2020 20:08

I'm fed up now. I don't mind sanitising hands but I hate wearing a mask and wouldn't choose to do so if it wasn't mandatory. If people want to wear masks and social distance and not go to pubs or restaurants forever more then that's up to them but we need to start getting back to normality and I hope that will be the case by the summer.
