Are you ready for another 6 months of restrictions ?

Does anybody think that this will all be normal by March/April, no more masks or restrictions ?
Ready to 'do your bit' and not see family and friends and have restrictions on your lives until potentially summer ?

I think I'll be joining the unmasked in March - they don't seem to be challenged much anyway.

We've all done a year of this, we've done our bit and I'm done. Jan, Feb, but that's it, no more.

agradecida · 10/12/2020 20:24

Nope, I think we'll start seeing a steady drop off in hospital admissions and deaths when the initial vaccines for the oldest kick in by March, or even the end of Feb if the Oxford one comes through by the beginning of January. Once the number of deaths drops we may have some restrictions still in April, May, June, but the weather starts to get better at the end of March and I'd happily go back to meeting most people in parks, going for walks, meeting in gardens, beer gardens, and limited family and friends inside - that is a hell of a lot better than now in this miserable weather.

But then I really don't mind things like going to baby swimming lessons dressed ready to change at the side of the pool, wear a mask until in the pool, etc. I just don't see that as a negative restriction on my life as long as we get to go swimming.

If we can get back to pubs open, activities running, sun shining, being able to meet friends and family, then I'll be so much happier. But I guess I also don't see wearing a mask as a big deal like a lot in the UK and USA seem to. Social distancing is completely up to individuals too - it's not really policed unless you're holding an illegal rave. So no one is actually stopping anyone going round to friends and families' houses.

Unfortunately you cannot just be "fed up" with this virus.

I am dual UK/Aus citizen, have lived in both countries and am glad to currently be down under where we did what had to be done.

I will be honest, it was a horrible winter in lockdown. Everyone had moments of great struggle but we pulled each other through.

Come on guys, you live on an island too and you can do this.

MadameBlobby · 10/12/2020 20:25

@Againstmachine

Not by march.

I am getting perturbed by, he story's that even next year long after we have all been vaccinated they are still wanting us to wear masks, social distancing ect, I go sort of think we'll what's the point.

Yeah, Vallance can fuck himself sideways if he thinks I’ll be wearing a mask next winter.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/12/2020 20:25

Kittensarecute

Do you have someone in RL to speak to? Don’t listen to all these posters doom and gloom mongers. They don’t know what’s going to happen. Most revel in misery. I’ve noticed you on other covid threads and I hope you have some RL support. Please don’t get bogged down by this.

@borntohula ok, everywhere isn't shut but it would be impossible to act normally where I live as only shops are open. Everywhere else is closed.

So how do I just ignore restrictions? Storm into the local boozer and order them to let me in?

Hugs as a fellow dual citizen you must be able to see that the length of time here in U.K. far outstretches Aus?

People aren’t that different they are just fed up. Same same anywhere

Elfieishere · 10/12/2020 20:26

Sick of it and no won’t be following the rules.

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 20:27

I really don’t care about masks. It’s tier 3 that makes me despair more. I’ll wear a mask to avoid that (and school disruption).

MadameBlobby · 10/12/2020 20:28

@Againstmachine

I don't trust Whitty, Vallence, Hancock and Van Tam one little bit.

Yep when Vallance and Whitty did the press conference with fake figures to suit their own story was when a lot of trust was lost.

Exactly this. 4000 deaths a day totally pulled out of their arse. When USA aren’t having that number of deaths and they have that fool Trump in charge and are making a right mess of it there is no way we are going to get to that. I don’t trust SAGE and their figures one bit.
Parker231 · 10/12/2020 20:29

Depends on how long it takes to roll out the vaccinations and when the country starts to open up properly again.

I think wearing a mask when you have a cold or cough is a good idea and don’t have a problem continuing with that.

Yeah we are going from tier 4 to tier 3 tomorrow and expect we will be there for months. Meanwhile countless businesses go to the wall and Sturgeon doesn’t care.
wizzbangfizz · 10/12/2020 20:31

@hugchocolate you can't compare - we have been living like this for months - only Melbourne had an extended period and it still doesn't touch what we have been through.

AntiHop · 10/12/2020 20:31

Do people like @Ginger1982 @kittensarecute and @Wigisfashion83
think we can just click our fingers at an arbitrary date and it will all be ok?

The point is that every government needs to find a way to keep transmission rates down, or health care systems will be overwhelmed. If we didn't have restrictions, the virus would spread like crazy and LOADS of people will need hospital treatment. That means that women will die in childbirth because there's no anesthetist for an emergency c section, people will die from appendicitis as there's no free beds in the hospital, people will die from a treatable heart while they queue outside a and e.

No healthcare system in the world has the capacity to allow the virus to spread unchecked without huge collateral loss of life.

Pp have rightly said their health care on other issues has been reduced due to covid. Lifting restrictions is only going to make this much worse.

Wigisfashion83 · 10/12/2020 20:32

I've never seen anybody without a mask being fined or even questioned.
Masks don't even bother me, it's the restrictions on movement and mixing and having endless things cancelled.
People having to leave a 20 metre gap when queuing in Aldi and dancing around each other like we're lepers.
People hanging onto the Governments' every word and waiting to be told they are 'allowed' to sit in their family member's garden.

Athinginitself · 10/12/2020 20:32

I dont think it's as simple as yes or no. There are degrees of restrictions, I dont think we will be in lockdown or tier 3 come the spring, I dont mind some ongoing social distancing, mask wearing etc until most people are vaccinated and case rates are a lot lower. I'd be really unhappy still being in tier 3 come may, but I really dont think that will be the case. Despite what some people seem to think the government want the economy up and running again, they are a bloody tory government they want people in work and making money, I cant see them keeping restrictions going if its not needed.

hugchocolate · 10/12/2020 20:32

Marsha, yes you have had this going on longer, but in a big way because the UK decided to have summer "off" virus precautions.

We watched in horror as people flitted all around Europe in summer.

Mousehole10 · 10/12/2020 20:32

@myhobbyisouting

All of you saying you can't carry on.

How exactly do you intend on just going back to normal? Everywhere is shut!

I’m also giving up in spring. Less and less are following it now, as we can see by cases going up so soon after lockdown. Restrictions aren’t working anymore, close the pubs and people just go to each other’s homes. It’s too cold and wet to meet outside much now. I’ll do it over the worst of winter to allow the start of vaccine rollout but once the most vulnerable are vaccinated I’m done. And of course if pubs and restaurants are still closed I won’t be able to go to them but I will be seeing friends and family inside, having parties etc.
MadameBlobby · 10/12/2020 20:33

I’ve had endless huge painful cold sores since I started wearing a mask. It’s utterly miserable and makes me feel so run down and sick.

Againstmachine · 10/12/2020 20:33

Years down the line we won't remember so much the lack of nights out at the pub for a year but we'll remember our loved ones' deaths forever.

People will remember the times they lost their businesses and their homes, the poverty and much worse due to the restrictions.

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 20:33
@hugchocolate you can't compare - we have been living like this for months - only Melbourne had an extended period and it still doesn't touch what we have been through.
I really can’t take the we pulled together in Melbourne line. Not really aiming at previous poster. But it’s obvious we did the same pre summer so this line can go now.

Notthe9oclocknewsathon · 10/12/2020 20:33

Lol. I think they know they’re on borrowed time with this madness.

loulouljh · 10/12/2020 20:34

It's such a nonsense...I do think though the restrictions will just fall away through non compliance...warmer weather and people won't be bothered any more.

wanderings · 10/12/2020 20:34

Are you Boris?

Dundundunnn · 10/12/2020 20:34

No, I won't be following any more lock down rules. Call me selfish, I don't care at this point. I've given up 9 months and I'm calling time on it. If I want to see friends and they want to see me I'll be doing it. I'll wear a mask and SD in public but they can get screwed if they think I'm not going to see friends at home.
