Mass testing for secondary school pupils in worst affected areas.

Headlines are usually immediate

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:01

Eh?

The 'desired outcome' is lower rates of transmission, fewer people sick, fewer deaths surely?

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:01

Make schools safer: masks on, windows open, test kits at the ready etc etc

Sounds good so far

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:02

No I mean change you want to see in schools

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:03

Headline - 'Covid is ripping through secondary schools: here are the facts'

By line - 'See my previous post'

You don't need me to draft the whole editorial, I imagine?

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:04

Then we're back to the question of why this isn't all over the media.
MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:05

Ha if you like. I got quoted in the telegraph - doing their job for them.

I wouldn’t do ripping through schools personally. But make schools safer is better.

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:05

@MarshaBradyo

Yes, that is the change I want to see.

Lower rates of transmission, fewer people sick, fewer deaths.

Is there another change you were thinking of?

This convo is getting a bit surreal Marsha I must confess.

Exactly.

I mean, I could basically copy and paste my threads.

'Tearing through schools'?

'Destroying education'?

Any better?

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:07

noblegiraffe absolutely.

And given the propensity for journos to get their copy from MN, the question remains as to why this hasn't happened.

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2020 16:07

Well no, christina because while truthful, that might close Marsha’s school.

‘Covid is a slight issue in schools, let’s consider opening the windows’

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:08

It probably is surreal.

But I can’t help asking people exactly what they want to see. I used to do this stuff at work and if people say I want a campaign! I can’t help but ask well what do you want the changes to be as a result. And I mean specific changes.

Who knows maybe someone is reading.

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:09

But not after a 40 page thread thrashing out the exact wording...

Honestly, Marsha.

Do you mind me asking... did you used to post on phonics threads approx 8 years ago?

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:10

Noble you can ridicule I don’t really care. Unless you DO want my school to close? Why is that? Blanket closure?

But messaging from unions in particular has been shit.

Long, confusing or the failed shut the schools.

MrsMiaWallis · 11/12/2020 16:11

🤣🤣🤣

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:11

Ok I’m going now. I’m not that phased.

I think clarity would help that is all.

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:11

I'm sure lots of journos have read noblegiraffe's threads over the last few months Marsha.

Is 'lower transmission rates, fewer people sick, fewer deaths' too vague?

It seems pretty clear to me.

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:12

Ain't that just the truth, Marsha.

DBML · 11/12/2020 16:13

@christinarossetti19

Thank you so much. It’s indeed very worrying. He’s always been a happy, energetic lad.
But it’s not just my son, lots of our pupils are going through similar and none of them deserve this. They all deserve to be safe and happy in school, getting the best and fullest education possible. I’m worried for them all. It’s so unfair that their education has been sacrificed by the government this way, just to keep schools open as a form of childcare.

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2020 16:16

But I can’t help asking people exactly what they want to see.

But why are you asking me when I’ve been clear about what I want to see over multiple threads? It’s not some secret.

Unless you DO want my school to close? Why is that? Blanket closure?

I haven’t said that, have I? Or are you deliberately not reading my posts.

I think pussyfooting around a real issue because you are worried that going in too hard might cause your school to close (well it won’t if there’s no problem, will it?) while I and other teachers are teaching in unsafe conditions and my colleagues are badly hit, the kids are in and out, and more and more MN teachers come down with the bastard thing, some ending up in hospital, quite frankly I don’t think the headlines can be hard hitting enough.

ladymalfoy45 · 11/12/2020 16:19

Masking the Problem?
Whilst the Government and the DfE have claimed........their data have not revealed the true extent of how the virus is affecting education.
Schools are having to ‘disguise’ the true extent of pupils absences by....and so.....
Whilst teachers and school leaders do not want schools to closes the vast majority want to see safer measures such as......to tackle the spread.

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 16:21

Take my school out of it Noble - it’s irrelevant. Because if you close mine you are closing all of them. And neither of us want that.

The unions have sent out long lists then they went full close the schools. Neither worked.

So I’m suggesting another way - do what Germany did and single issue and get change. Because atm there is zero change. Because a series of measures is too long and close the schools riles people up.

But you’re probably right keep going as you are. My way is probably no way either.

christinarossetti19 · 11/12/2020 16:22

DBML yes, it's absolutely dreadful what has been taken away from our young people.

Of course the virus would have had a significant, limited effect, but it's heart-breaking to know that it needn't have been anywhere near so destructive if there had been better measures put in place.

Just on your ventilation crusade Marsha. That was one of the few recommendations that the govt did make and it clearly hasn't worked in terms of suppressing transmission.

It's probably not the best line of argument.

juicy0 · 11/12/2020 16:23

What are peoples thoughts on GCSE's taking place or not this summer? I know Gavin Williamson has said they will go ahead but how likely is that really?
