@noblegiraffe

That Guardian article

“And if you’re sitting in a classroom, where mask wearing is not recommended, conditions are far from ideal. The bubbles are far too big, kids are far too close together – in lots of old schools you can’t open the windows properly, in some schools there’s even teaching rooms without windows. So that’s something that needs to be addressed.”

Ya think?? Where have you been this last three months? We’re about to bloody close for Christmas.

yes it's taken them until the end of the year to reach this conclusion. I bet if you go back to July there would be posts on here almost word for word pointing all this out! Yet what would moaning and whining school staff know about such things?
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 18:08

Is that the same media that said that teachers and unions were making things up? @noblegiraffe

Or have I got them mixed up with journalists?

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 18:26

Depends on what day it is, I think staff

So pissed off they’ve ignored this story up till now. Giving parents the heads up on the dangers of sending Kevin to hug grandma is actually a necessary public health message.

The DfE fight back

Wow, that is actively sinister.

What and when exactly is the last resort?

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 18:36

Why the hell are the DFE only focusing on transmission with staff? Am I the only one wondering if they haven't checked the DATA on the spread within secondary schools within the PUPILS that they expect to be there until the end of the term?!!!

I can't. I am just getting more furious by the day.

mrshoho · 14/12/2020 18:36

fucking arseholes. The same ONS data that had a strange sub group of 'other teacher'. Did it ever get explained who this other group consisted of?

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 18:38

And why are they ignoring the fact that covid riddled pupils will be mixing in Christmas bubbles 5 days after break up and this is high risk for families?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 18:38

Yes, it is in a link in noble's post.

tartiflette · 14/12/2020 18:38

Ridiculous from the DfE. What vital educational outcomes do they imagine they referring to, that take place the last four days of the Autumn term?

That whole text is laughable but also deeply angering.

RememberSelfCompassion · 14/12/2020 18:43

Any hope that a department FOR education was concerned with education and schools is gone....

This.
noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 18:52

Did they just have a press conference and not discuss schools? They did, didn't they?

Matt Hancock said that if you want to see your nan at Christmas you need to be very careful about who you have contact with from now on.

Except secondary kids who will be freely mixing with large groups of the most infected subset of the population till Friday, eh, Matt?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2020 18:53

They did. Journalists are not interested.

tartiflette · 14/12/2020 18:57

They'll be pretty interested in January.

I'm so sick of raging into a void. I really don't want to be saying I told you so in a month's time. Why oh why oh why has everyone's head been in the sand all this term?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 19:17

Ah yes exams - cancelled in Scotland and Wales. The English ones will have more lenient marking and strong hints on what to revise.

DfE still presiding over failure; fed up with bullying school staff they now want to pick a fight with councils.

MercyBooth · 14/12/2020 19:47

#CloseschoolsNOW is currently trending on Twitter.

BelleSausage · 14/12/2020 19:51

I still reckon they are deliberately keeping the R number up to allow for final phases testing on the Oxford jab.

Itisasecret · 14/12/2020 20:00

Well it turns out that actually bar the odd gaslighting poster on MN. There is a huge sector of the population who are collectively furious. Close schools now is trending on Twitter. It appears that parents and business owners are cross. The general consensus is they feel lied to, cheated and feel the government were dishonest when they said schools were safe. The employed who keep having their business shut down are now becoming vocal too. Why should they close when it is schools driving the infection rate, how can they keep doing it when schools are driving infection.

The worm appears to be turning and it isn’t just parents that are angry, it is traditional Tory type targets.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 20:06

The Big Idiot busy getting his whip out for those daring to stand up to him.

christinarossetti19 · 14/12/2020 20:07

The tragedy is that the message #makeschoolssafer didn't trend when it should have months ago.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 20:08

Oh I dunno, the Daily Mail is running with 'Labour councils backed by Teaching Unions cause chaos for hardworking parents'

Yep only now, where it will end up going one way. It’s too late so people want them closed.
starrynight19 · 14/12/2020 20:12

Another poster on the Greenwich thread has said that they have been ordered to reopen their schools or they will be taken to the high court.

noblegiraffe · 14/12/2020 20:19

They are power-mad and utterly demented.

I do feel sorry for the parents and kids though. If this had been planned for when the Christmas bubble idiocy was announced and the issues with it became obvious, they wouldn't be dropped in the shit at the last minute.
