Would you test?

In the house are me, DD11 and DD13.
Me: mild gastric symptoms for two days (bloating, mild diarrhoea), now feeling fine (day 3). No vomiting, fever, cough or change to smell/taste.
DD11: has complained of 'tummy ache' and headache, both mild, for two days (started day after mine). No vomiting or diarrhoea. No fever, cough or change to smell/taste.
DD13: feels absolutely fine.
None of these meet the testing criteria, but would you think it sounds enough like coronavirus to test?
The alternative explanation is both DD11 and I ate something 2 days ago that DD13 did not.

Yes, I would for you and DS11 .
What are the temperatures doing?

middleager · 10/12/2020 09:04

Sorry DD!

bathsh3ba · 10/12/2020 09:04

Temperatures are completely normal.

I've seen cases on here where upset stomachs and headaches have resulted in a positive test.

A headache and diarroeha are both on the CDC's list of symptoms.

I might be extra cautious though as DC had Covid (high temp).

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/12/2020 09:09

Does not sound like Corona, more like tummy bug. Ask 111 for advice.

Suzyeve · 10/12/2020 09:14

I'd say no. Otherwise everyone will be testing for every bug going. I understand people do have cvid without the 3 classic symptoms.. However, too many people who really need to be tested are having to wait ages for a test and result. Hope everyone feels better soon though x

bathsh3ba · 10/12/2020 09:15

The NHS 111 online symptom checker tells me it's 'unlikely to be Covid-19'.

If relevant - we are in a Tier 3 area but the girls' school is Tier 2 and has so far had very few cases. There is someone currently isolating who sits two seats away from DD11 - but not a confirmed case as yet. Cases in our actual village are 70 odd per 100k and I have been working from home. So if we do have it, it almost certainly came either from school or local supermarket.

No. Why would you?

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2020 09:22

If you’re in a tier 3 area, is there extra testing you can access without symptoms? There was a lot of talk about that in the press but I’m unsure if it’s happened everywhere (anywhere!).

There is plenty of testing capacity at the moment though. I had a test large week, booked for half an hour after I’d been on the site with results back thirteen hours later.

If you’re booking tests because you think they’ve got covid, you should probably all be isolating until they come back.

bathsh3ba · 10/12/2020 09:26

There's no extra testing near us at the moment.
We are all at home anyway today as a precaution and the school has given everyone the option to move to online learning from tomorrow till the end of term, which we had already decided to take up.

Yes. Definitely.

middleager · 10/12/2020 09:58

If not, could you all just hunker down at home for a while instead?

bathsh3ba · 10/12/2020 10:05

@middleager, we probably will now anyway, as it's online learning from tomorrow. But I'd have to decide if I was keeping DD11 off football and we'd probably have to cancel drive thru panto on the 21st. We should be clear by Christmas Eve when we are next due to see anyone.

I tested when I had an upset stomach (on off high temp too but this had gone when I had my test) - there was lots of availability at multiple test centres near me and when I got there I was the only person there - test came back positive so didn’t feel guilty about booking a test against the guidelines.

Suzyeve · 10/12/2020 11:08

I think any time you had a temp in lead up to test counts, even if goes away again.. To be fair, if lots of test about the maybe it's ok. I tried to get one as an essential worker because so many of my colleagues have it, but couldn't get one without a main symptom. Now waiting for my son's test result which we could do with quickly. He does have a temp. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

bathsh3ba · 10/12/2020 12:17

As far as I'm aware none of us have had a temperature at any point, certainly not a noticeable one. I think we will watch and see for a few days, seeing as we are all at home anyway, but give football on Sunday a miss. I had a video call with DD11 and the GP for an unrelated issue, and she didn't think we needed to test. DD11 now feeling better in any case.
