How many people are getting the vaccine each day?

Keepgoing88 · 10/12/2020 07:54

Basically, what the title says. I have not seen any data on roughly how many people are getting vaccinated a day at the moment and I’m surprised as I thought that a lot of people would be wanting to know the answer to this. I can’t imagine it is a massive number as they have just started but just wondered have I missed anything or does anyone know anywhere where they have the numbers?

I asked this exact question and still want to know the answer!

PuzzledObserver · 10/12/2020 09:17

Me too.

I know the number will ramp up as more centres are set up, and also when the Oxford vaccine is approved. So ai think we could do with a daily and cumulative stat to offset the daily cases, hospitalisations and death numbers.

wasthataburp · 10/12/2020 09:19

I must say I am also surprised. You would think they would be shouting it from the roof tops. Unless of course they are covering themselves in case of any complications or side effects

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/12/2020 09:25

It might make more sense to only give official daily numbers once people have had their second jab.

Christmas1935 · 10/12/2020 09:26

The first day was slow - about 5,000 people so 100 people at each hub.

GP's and other hospitals are starting to get involved and I imagine they will vaccinate more at the hubs as they get into the flow.

They are aiming for a million a week by January - but I suspect they need the Oxford vaccine to do that many

Frazzled2207 · 10/12/2020 09:29

a million a week sounds good right now but really isn't great is it when you think that would take over a year to vaccinate us all.
But I suppose when you take out children and the people that won't have it, combined with further ramping up (I hope) it won't be quite like that.

Once we have vaccinated everyone in a care home and all over 80s , that already cuts the death rate by two thirds!

Biscoff2020 · 10/12/2020 10:45

They will have to do way more than a million a week if they want the priority groups done by Easter as most of the vaccines require 2 doses!

triceratops12 · 10/12/2020 10:47

Chris Witty said rules could start to be relaxed once 20 million vaccines had been given. Seems like a long way to go still.

I assumed that meant once 20 million people (as this covers the most vulnerable priority categories) had been vaccinated- so 40 million injections needed...

I suspect it’s a bit slower today as anyone vaccinated today will need to be revaccinated on the 31st December.

ProudAuntie76 · 10/12/2020 10:55

I’m working at a nursing home in a hub hospital area, on Monday we were told that we must have everything ready document wise to have the staff vaccinated at extremely short notice and that every home in our area would have their staff vaccinated within the week.

So far we’ve heard nothing else back and I don’t know anyone who has had the vaccine who wasn’t either already in hospital and over 80 or nhs staff. I don’t know a single person in our vicinity who works in the social care sector who has been vaccinated.

PuzzledObserver · 10/12/2020 11:06

My husband also works in a nursing home and has been told nothing. He said he suspects that when they are ready to come, there will be a three-line whip that all staff have to go in on a given day, even if they're not on duty.

I know of several over 80's living at home round here who have appointments to go to a local Golf club to have theirs, although not sure for when.

We’ve been told we have to go to the hospital in a city half an hour away (not our nearest hub) and to be prepared to arrange cover and transport. The residents will eventually be vaccinated in house at a later date.

None of us are fussed about having to get vaccinated on a day off. We’ve been through hell this past year. Giving up an hour on a day off is the least we can do.

I don't think they are worrying about that. Although the govt have generally been a mess the specific team involved in vaccination has been pretty awesome from as far back as March.

This is true, many GPs and nurses are shifted to work on the 24th/25th/26th/31st/1st to deliver the vaccine. They were prepared for this months ago. Military medics have also been put on standby to deliver the vaccine.
ilovebagpuss · 10/12/2020 17:33

At our nursing home staff have registered and some have gone for a vaccine. I’m waiting on an email to give an appointment nothing yet.

notevenat20 · 10/12/2020 18:11

Have any care home residents received the vaccine yet?

ProudAuntie76 · 10/12/2020 18:18

Only those who are current in hospital.
notevenat20 · 10/12/2020 19:27

Are those in care homes booked in for next week?

LizziesTwin · 10/12/2020 19:30

Although this is just anecdotal my friend’s mother in Essex was vaccinated yesterday. She’s really excited as she’d like to see her grandson.

rooella · 10/12/2020 19:33

They have 21-28 days to do second vaccination

CoffeeandCroissant · 10/12/2020 22:06

The aim is for 30 million (all the people in the initial phase groups) by June. Which would be over a million per week on average. Possibly a bit optimistic?

There is a breakdown of the population size of each group in the 7 December bulletin here (pdf)

notevenat20 · 10/12/2020 22:36

If they get to anywhere near a million vaccinations a day I will be very happy. Currently they don't seem to be reporting the number at all.

sushinelove · 10/12/2020 22:49

Scottish gov said today that 5330 were vaccinated between Tuesday and Wednesday. They will update this number each week, so will be interesting to see how/if it ramps up.
