I've had my invite today and so have lots of my colleagues. NHS ward staff. My firat appointment is 17th December.

Thought it might be interesting to try to track the mexican wave of vaccination as it passes through the priority groups.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

My dad, he’s 80 with mild health conditions. However by the time he had worked out how to get to Basildon from the other end of Essex all the over 80s appointments had gone. This is probably a good thing as it shows take up is ok - there was a poster on here from the hospital saying it had been low.
That's a shame but I hope he manages to sort something out. Obviously it's big ask of these people to travel so let's hope the community vaccination is ramped up quickly. Much discussion locally about a GP-led vaccination 'hub' being set up somewhere quite inaccessible unless you can drive there.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/12/2020 20:46

Thanks, Frazzled.
Tbh I think it makes more sense for him to wait another month or two than to take a two and a half hour bus ride to somewhere with much higher covid rates than his home town. He and my mum are in no hurry to go out, and their gp is in walking distance of their house so if the gp offers jabs in due course that would be a far better option. Unlike some people his age who either can’t help coming into contact with a lot of people and are thus at more risk, or are bored silly and counting the days!

Family member in their 80s getting the vaccine before Christmas.

daisypond · 10/12/2020 20:52

Are people saying you can just phone up a hospital and get an appointment if you’re in the priority group? Surely not.

No, you wait for your GP to contact you.

A relative of mine is having his next Wednesday. He is 86, absolutely no health conditions at all. His 81 year old partner hasnt had a call yet. He has also been told his second one will be the 13th of January which I was surprised to hear.

Flowersandtea · 10/12/2020 20:58

I’m. Wondering if there’s a regional variation in vaccinations being offered South priority over North or London centric.

joystir59 · 10/12/2020 20:59

My 87 year old mil has been offered it.

oneglassandpuzzled · 10/12/2020 21:04

My mother is 82 and in SW London and hasn’t heard yet.

I love this thread, it's great to read all these posts from people who can report first hand what's going on with the vaccine roll-out. I got quite tearful watching the news reports of the old folk getting the vaccine, it's such a relief to think that the end of this nightmare is in sight.

I would imagine that it will take until the end of March to vaccinate the 20 million people in the over 65/extremely vulnerable group, along with NHS and care workers (not sure if they are part of the 20M that the professor mentioned in the news conference today), but what a difference that will make to people, as most people have someone from those groups in their family. The younger age groups will have to wait a bit longer, so will need to carry on being careful for a few more weeks, but hopefully any ECV people will receive the vaccine in spring, and healthy adults in the younger groups have a good chance of survival, so the daily death rates should drop drastically in spring. I want to see daily vaccination figures instead - much better! Smile

Defenbaker · 10/12/2020 21:27

@Flowersandtea If you look at the list of 53 vaccination hubs in England on the BBC website you'll see that they are very widespread across the country, so I doubt there is any favouritism going on. It would be good if posters could mention the area they live, though, just to give a wider picture of what's happening across the UK.

I am loving this thread too. I am a pretty pessimistic by nature as I think it protects me from disappointment. I genuinely think we would never get here. I am so glad I was wrong.

When my relative rang earlier to say he is getting the vaccine I felt such relief and joy. We are very close. He is my DH's step grandfather, but he is the closest thing I have ever had to a grandfather. I was dreading him getting CV.

Avondklok · 10/12/2020 21:53

Friends sister, who is a nurse in Coventry UH, had it today.

georgedawes · 10/12/2020 21:55

Great thread! Would agree with others that it's be interesting to hear rough areas too.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/12/2020 21:58

yikesanotherbooboo · 10/12/2020 22:10

DM 94 , south east, will go to a GP practice / hub in her town.

LemonTT · 10/12/2020 22:11

@WithASpider

FIL booked in next week, 81 and minor health conditions. MIL annoyed that she has to wait because she's only 77.
If she goes along maybe (maybe) they might have a spare dose due to a missed appointment. If they do they would give it to her. She should ask.
ChristmasinJune · 10/12/2020 22:27

A Facebook friend aged 81 with no major health conditions, very fit and well, has got an appt for next Monday. Just outside Liverpool.

MIL aged 93 living in Greater Manchester has heard nothing.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2020 22:28

I have booked mine through work. I'm a nurse but on a clean ward. But am classed as CEV and apparently should be shielding. (Decided that sounds be worse than catching Covid. And indeed for me it certainly would have been. I've had worse colds.)

I was really surprised that we didn't have to declare which category I fell into. Was amazed to see this morning, that the area where the vaccines are being given is crawling with security to guard it!

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2020 22:30

@Frazzled2207 more hospitals have been announced today. And Leicester also had one now. They missed out as they nominated the race course, rather than one if their three hospitals.
Mine is on NYE. It was the earliest I could get.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2020 22:31

I'm in Nottingham.

BalconiWaferAddict · 10/12/2020 22:34

My grandfather - over 90 and in a care home - has his first vaccination next week. Grandmother has been informed hers will be January but no confirmed date as yet.

Scbchl · 10/12/2020 22:36

81 year old father in law mild medicated conditions hasnt heard anything yet. South West Scotland.

Tohaveandtohold · 10/12/2020 22:40

DH had his own today. His mid 30s but works for the NHS and they’ve had a lot of cases recently in his wards.
They had less slots for staffs in comparison to that of patients and he wasn’t priority as he has no pre existing medical condition but some of his colleagues that are of a high priority didn’t want to take it yet so he was offered it instead.
