Orangeblossom77777 · 09/12/2020 11:34

I registered online but haven't heard anything back. Wondering if it might be as I was not able to tick the boxes for working and jobs which meant coming into contact with many other people.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 09/12/2020 12:50

Yes, I'm doing it. I had my first jab yesterday.

leafinthewind · 09/12/2020 12:53

I tried but wasn't eligible - I use the wrong kind of contraceptive.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 09/12/2020 12:56

Me, I had the first jab last week (Monday). Seems like ages until the second (25th January). Felt a bit rough on Monday night and Tuesday last week. DH reckons it was all psychological!!!Grin

Frazzled2207 · 09/12/2020 12:56

Good luck to all. I am in the novavax trial and it has been a positive experience so far. Had both jabs early in the autumn but have several blood tests still to go. We’re told no serious side effects reported by anybody (yet)

FindHungrySamurai · 09/12/2020 12:59

I also filled in the form (though had a bit of trouble submitting) and have heard nothing back - possibly because I don’t work in a public facing job.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/12/2020 16:04

Orangeblossom exactly the same here. Unless it's because I live a long way from the hospital, although I know they are recruiting in the county where I live and were actively asking for volunteers.

CarryOnWalking · 09/12/2020 18:41

I submitted the form, picked the hospital I’d like to go to (choice of 3 fairly locally), and then got the ‘we will be in touch to arrange an appointment’ message. This was on Friday but I’ve heard nothing. Does this mean I’m not likely to hear anything?! I desperately want to do it.

Orangeblossom77777 · 09/12/2020 19:02

I wondered about clicking the box saying

"Other occupation that puts me at high risk of exposure to COVID-19"

as a parent having teens (2) in school with cases...thought best not though

thefemaleJoshLyman · 29/01/2021 17:29

Anyone had their second jab yet? Had mine today, I was surprised that it really hurt going in!

zighead · 29/01/2021 17:40

@thefemaleJoshLyman did the first one not hurt at all? Maybe it's the technique of the vaccinator today?
I only had my first dose three weeks ago so not due second until March. I felt so ill after the first dose so actually dreading feeling ill again.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 29/01/2021 17:43

@zighead I also felt rough after the first one, DH thought it was psychological! Grin

zighead · 29/01/2021 17:49

@thefemaleJoshLyman that's actually what my sister said but I'm 99.9% certain it was the real dealGrin.
I had awful nausea in the afternoon and evening and then during the night a horrible headache and fever. Felt rough the next day but did go to work and then totally fine after that. How about you?

thefemaleJoshLyman · 29/01/2021 17:51

Sounds similar. I felt shivery and freezing cold, with aches and headache in the afternoon, evening and morning after jab. Felt much better in the afternoon.

Orangeblossom1977 · 29/01/2021 17:56

Good news on this vaccine today-

A single-dose vaccine, made by the US company Johnson & Johnson, is 100 per cent effective at preventing deaths and hospitalisations from Covid-19.

This means that one month after vaccination, no one who received the vaccine was admitted to hospital or died, regardless of which strain of coronavirus they were exposed to.

In the 44,000-person trial by the company's subsidiary Janssen, based in the Netherlands, they also found the vaccine prevented 66 per cent of moderate to severe cases of Covid-19.

The UK has ordered 30m doses of the Janssen vaccine.

The jab worked across multiple variants of coronavirus, including the South African variant which has been worrying scientists, the firm said.

Responding to the news about the successful trial of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Health Secretary Matt Hancock tweeted: "This is yet more good news from Janssen on vaccines. If this jab is approved this could significantly bolster our vaccination programme, especially as a single-dose vaccine."

ButtonMoonLoon · 29/01/2021 19:37

I’m also on the trial.
Had my first dose a few days ago and spent the next day feeling rough.in fact felt grim for a few days afterwards, dead arm and nausea plus headache, but won’t find out for a while yet whether I had the placebo or the actual vaccine.
Next dose in March

zighead · 29/01/2021 20:39

@ButtonMoonLoon
Sounds like you had the vaccine. It would be highly unlikely that you would have had such a reaction to an injection of saline.
Are you in Manchester? Not sure how many locations there are in the phase 3 trial.

No not Manchester- Bristol.
There seems to be loads of locations this time around- Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, London Leicester, Sheffield, Manchester, Dundee and Belfast.
I think I had it, too. I guess if I feel as foul second time around it’ll confirm it for me at least. It’ll be a while until I’m officially called for the vaccine so could be a while until I find out for certain.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 30/01/2021 07:49

So feel really rough today after my second jab. Shivery, headache, muscle and joint ache and my arm and shoulder are really sore. If this is the placebo, I'd be horrified! Hopefully paracetamol will sort me out soon.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 30/01/2021 07:50

I'm doing the trial in Cambridge.

zighead · 30/01/2021 11:03

@thefemaleJoshLyman

Oh no, hope you start to feel better soon. Daffodil
Do you feel worse than after your first dose?
What do you think of the app to record symptoms and side effects from the vaccine? Not the greatest is it!

littlestpogo · 30/01/2021 11:33

Hello everyone - I get my first jab next week. Good to have the heads up on side effects incase i get the real dose ( it would be unusual for saline to give such a reaction!)

ButtonMoonLoon · 30/01/2021 11:40

I haven't seen anywhere on the app to record side effects/adverse reactions- just potential covid symptoms!

thefemaleJoshLyman · 30/01/2021 12:09

@zighead @ButtonMoonLoon I asked about recording side effects on the app yesterday and we just record them as covid symptoms by selecting yes on the first question. I was also given a list of other symptoms to report, which I didn't get at my first appointment, which would have been useful! Have slept most of the morning and feel much better but tired, just like after first jab. I predict effects will wear off at about 2.10, 24 hours after jab! Which is what happened last time. Hmm
