Do they know something we don't?

I've been mulling this over for the last couple of days.

From what I've read GPs are being asked to man mass vaccination centres as of next week, but...

We've only had 800000 doses of the vaccine delivered, so that is only 400000, no where nearly enough for mass vaccination.

I cant remember exactly how much time there was between the first and second vaccine being sent to the regulators, but inwould imagine if the same timescale is followed we should be hearing something within the next week.

So does it not seem that the government are very confident of it being approved, so that the mass vaccinations can begin?

BBCnews is your friend. I suggest you give it a try.

LemonTT · 08/12/2020 07:51

The first delivery was 800k doses. A further 3.2 m are following in December. A further 36m in the new year. Not all at once.

Oxford is in line for approval. A betting person would say this week or next.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 08/12/2020 08:08

Sounds like they are getting prepared for once. The whole world is watching to see how it goes too.

We will be paying for Covid for generations, we need to reopen the economy asap.

Plus a nice distraction from the debacle that is Brexit. Call me a cynic.

Where is this info from please? I’ve not been able to find it (but I am sleep deprived at moment so not functioning very well!)

PicsInRed · 08/12/2020 08:32

Bluntly, the riots have already started despite the cold (usually the worst of riots waits for warm weather, so this is a bad sign of what's to come) and no deal Brexit hasn't even begun.

As such, they need to get the economy open like the Titantic needed to launch lifeboats. Rapidly.

Riots?

PuzzledObserver · 08/12/2020 08:38

I think it’s pretty safe to assume there are things they know that we don’t. That’s sort of how it works.

I would also be grateful to know a source for when further doses of the Pfizer vaccine are due to arrive. I've heard great fanfair about the 800,000 (which is brilliant!) but no concrete info on when more will follow.

I'm aware that Trump has signed an executive order saying Americans will be vaccinated before any goes anywhere else, (source: thehill.com/policy/healthcare/529128-trump-to-order-government-to-vaccinate-americans-first-at-summit) and am unsure if that will impact on supplies in the UK or not.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/12/2020 08:48

Police are worried vaccine supplies will be a target for organised crime so I should imagine they won’t want too much publicity for further deliveries.

PicsInRed · 08/12/2020 08:51

Riots?
Have a look at Europe for a start. Proper, violent riots. There is also increased civil unrest - aggressive opposition to lockdown - in the UK. They're still being called "clashes" with "protestors" here.

I was talking to one of the dads on the school run this morning. He has been involved in organising the vaccine roll out for our area and seemed to think oxford would only be a few weeks away

BikeRunSki · 08/12/2020 08:58

A lot of incident response is “think big, act early”. In my field I have prepped for many incidents that didn’t happen, or were much less significant than anticipated. This approach does mean that I have hit the ground running very fast when needed though.

BikeRunSki · 08/12/2020 09:00

Sorry, posted too soon.

It would be a massive error/shame/balls up to receive more doses of vaccine with no means to administer it.

PurpleDaisies · 08/12/2020 09:02

There are millions of doses other vaccines on order for when they have been approved. This has been widely reported.

Tomorrowisanotherdayyouknow · 08/12/2020 09:02

A friend has been seconded to the Oxford vaccine roll out programme. There is a very experienced team working on the logistics so that it all goes to plan. This is vital to save lives and for the economy to get up and going full steam ahead again.

Nomechange · 08/12/2020 09:15

Know something we don’t know as in what though? (Sorry for being thick here!)

movingonup20 · 08/12/2020 09:25

@Motorina the Trump order only applies to manufacturing in the USA, our supply comes from Belgium. Apparently there's another 4 million due this month.

Have it from a source whose running the mass vaccination for his county they are expecting the Oxford permission any day and the vaccine is manufactured ready to go, they could start within the week possibly with the military transporting it.

This was confirmed by the news and Hancock days ago.

There really is no big conspiracy theory or hidden information OP. All news outlets are covering progress daily.

Frazzled2207 · 08/12/2020 09:50

with the oxford one I suppose there is the added complication of the half dose vs full dose debate (given that the former is possibly more effective). It would be brilliant if there was a go ahead on the basis of half doses because that presumably means more to go round and more quickly, theoretically.

DumplingsAndStew · 08/12/2020 10:06

What is it you think they're not telling you that you need to know?
