Has anyone had a PCR COVID test?

I need to get a PCR covid test before flying to visit family for Christmas. It's an entry requirement to visit (I am UK citizen).

Has anyone had one? I am most worried about it not coming in time and not being able to get my flight! I must have the test within 96 hours of departure.

Any advice or recommendations?

Lots of private companies offer PCR COVID testing. Their turnaround time is 24-48 hours (depending on how much you pay for a fast result!)

Where in country are you at the moment on travel sites there are numerous people claiming issues with post sites not returning tests in time.
There are test sites at some airports manchester from 15th December and I think Glasgow at the moment. Around 99.00
Other rated companies are biograd in Liverpool and some boots stores.
At least you know the test has been do e correctly and that they actually have the sample

Some airports are now offering it a few days ahead with 24 hour results, at a discount rate for ticket holders. Check the website of where you are flying from or the airline (BA were using specific clinics). However have heard the tests themselves may be in short supply.

Some of the Heathrow hotels are offering it ‘free’ if you book a room with them. You don’t have to stay in the room, just have the test.I think they guarantee to have it back overnight.

Where are you flying from? Some airports are offering the tests for £99 i know of Manchester and Heathrow and I think there's a few more too. Some boots stores are also doing them £120

Have you booked a test already? There’s huge demand at the moment with lots of places needing to book a month in advance.

Thanks everyone.

I looked online. My friend was due to go on holiday the other day but her test hadn’t even reached the lab at the time of her flight because of Royal Mail! On investigation it seems some suppliers are finding alternatives to RM. There’s no clinics locally and the Boots one is very far for me and no appointments until after Xmas!

In the end I found a company with a guaranteed turnaround. It involves an hour’s drive to drop it off but it is worth it to be honest. Test cost £149. I’ll let you know when it comes and if it works out...
I want to take advantage of the 96 hours. If it comes back inconclusive it gives enough time for a panic test!
