willsantausesantatize · 06/12/2020 19:57

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 06/12/2020 19:59

I’m Essex not Basildon and not heard anything like this

willsantausesantatize · 06/12/2020 20:00

It's online that Basildon cases have gone up. Reviewing the tiers on the 16th.

wildbarnet · 06/12/2020 20:06

So could be just Basildon ??? Hope so

OP posts:
willsantausesantatize · 06/12/2020 20:07

Could be just Basildon. They had to shut one of the high schools apparently .
It's not great where I live but we are limping on!

MercyBooth · 06/12/2020 21:07

Im in Braintree Fucking miles away from Basildon. Essex is huge.

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/12/2020 21:23

@wildbarnet

So could be just Basildon ??? Hope so
We should nuke the site from orbit, its the only way
Heartlantern2 · 06/12/2020 21:37

Essex is too large to close it all down due to one town

whatswithtodaytoday · 06/12/2020 21:39

Does anyone know why Basildon has it so bad at the moment? I suspect it will spread out from there, unfortunately.

SparePantsAndLego · 06/12/2020 21:42

Odd that it’s particularly bad there. I wonder why. Can’t disagree with @InterfectoremVulpes...

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 06/12/2020 21:42

ExH lives just outside Basildon. I blame him. (it's not his fault, he is actually sticking to the rules, but I still blame him).

Have you a link for that @wildbarnet we are not far from there. Thanks.

78percentLindt · 06/12/2020 22:53

According to the Zoe app, the number of estimated cases in Colchester is 201 greater today than last Sunday.

Topseyt · 07/12/2020 02:10

It is only Basildon so far.

I am in the north of Essex. Cases in our area are very low.

InterfectoremVulpes · 07/12/2020 07:23

credit to @RP131 on twitter for this chart. Basildon is wildly out of step with the rest of Essex.

I'm in Chelmsford and even with the Uni, cases here have been fairly low. Similar with Colchester which also has a Uni.
BecomeStronger · 07/12/2020 07:38

Yay, another reason for the surrounding towns to sneer at Basildon.

It's the poor places. Everywhere there's been a spike it's where the poor live, the ones most likely to be in factory jobs, hospitality, caring, retail and living in cramped conditions.

The leader of Basildon Council is making quite a name for himself with his demands. He asked for the schools to close early, which was declined by the DfE but they have implemented a mass testing programme for Basildon secondary schools which started this weekend and they have widened the criteria for isolating bubbles, so if one child in a year group tests positive the whole year group will close and if a teacher works across bubbles (all of them?) all the bubbles will close, which must fairly quickly result in all schools being closed. Whether this helps or just sends them all out in to the community remains to be seen. 40% of cases in Basildon are apparently in schools, most schools are not seeing a lot of cases in teachers. There is one exception but the majority have had 2-3 cases in staff.

He's also insisting Basildon won't accept Tier 3 if the rest of Essex isn't but I don't think he actually gets much say in the matter.

ohmysquash · 07/12/2020 07:42

It'll probably end up like Kent and sanction the whole county based on one hotspot.

BecomeStronger · 07/12/2020 07:44

@ohmysquash

It'll probably end up like Kent and sanction the whole county based on one hotspot.
It's two in Kent, Medway and Thanet. Again, where the poor live.
Todaythiscouldbe · 07/12/2020 08:00

Our school, just outside Basildon, sent out a letter last week 'inviting' us to apply for a test for all students, no symptoms necessary. The results from the first people to do as they were told must have started to come through last night. 3 years closed and all students have to isolate until the end of term. It feels like complete overkill.

whenwillthemadnessend · 07/12/2020 08:04

Oh crap. That's shit. Sil is in Essex. 😥

Definitely - but I thought that prior to CV19!

I grew up in Basildon im allowed to sneer... Grin
