Would you go to Tesco with a cough

I've had a mild cold all week, a slightly scratchy throat and a runny nose. The scratchy throat is now making me cough but the cough definitely originates in my throat, not my chest iyswim. So, I'm confident I don't have any of the symptoms.

However, I am coughing quite a lot and slightly concerned I might get lynched. WWYD?

Stay home.

MarthasGinYard · 05/12/2020 16:57

No

BefuddledPerson · 05/12/2020 16:58

If get a covid test as advised by the government is I had a new cough. I definitely wouldn't go to Tesco.

KittenCalledBob · 05/12/2020 16:58

No - get a delivery or click and collect.

PurpleDaisies · 05/12/2020 16:58

You can’t say because your cough is in your throat not your chest, you don’t need a covid test.

If you’re coughing often enough for you to think people will “lynch” you and not a one off here and there, you need to self isolate and book a test.

BefuddledPerson · 05/12/2020 16:58

If = I'd

BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 16:59

No - get a delivery or click and collect.

Still not to be had for love nor money here, all booked up weeks in advance.

You need a test. How many times do the very simple symptoms need to be said??

BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 17:01

I've just got a tickle in my throat that needs clearing fairly often, it's not a proper cough. It's certainly not a continuous cough.

You have a cough therefore you have Covid symptoms and need a test. So no you can’t go to Tesco until you’ve had the result.

Sore throat is quite a common symptom too although nit a government trigger.

PurpleDaisies · 05/12/2020 17:03

Surely this thread tells you how people will react to you coughing in Tesco?

Isn’t that enough for you to do the right thing and get a test? I suspect not. Hmm

You have pretty much the same symptoms as me and I had a positive test result back on Thursday last week. I've still got just a mild head cold and am sneezing on and off. I would get yourself a test just in case.
BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 17:07

Ok, I'll admit I've already had a test, (terrible drip feed, I accept) which is clear, as I expected from the symptoms. However, I still have a cough and am concerned about going to the supermarket and getting exactly this reaction, from people who won't know I've had a test.

PurpleDaisies · 05/12/2020 17:08

When was this supposed test?

Why on earth wouldn’t you have mentioned it in your earlier posts? That massively changes the situation if it is true.

scottish83 · 05/12/2020 17:08

If after you have isolated for the required period or obtained a negative test, you still have a cough then you'll be able to go to Tesco.

I've had a continuous cough since getting a cold at the end of August (maybe COVID, maybe not). But it's no longer a new continuous cough which means I'm quite comfortable going to the supermarket and coughing away into my elbow.

XmasLockdown · 05/12/2020 17:09

If I heard someone coughing in Tesco I would as far as I can from them.

tooearlytobeup · 05/12/2020 17:10

My son had exactly the same on Wednesday. Not a cough, just a tickle in his throat that needed to be cleared. He tested positive for Covid the following day.

hedgehogger1 · 05/12/2020 17:10

Get Amazon prime and get a prime now delivery. You can do it on the free trial. Don't go to the supermarket

Test yesterday, the result came through this morning. I didn't mention it so that posters here are in the same boat as people I'll encounter at the supermarket, I.e. they won't know I've just tested negative.

All the responses were telling you to get a test and you kept responding as if you hadn’t.

Can you not see how that looks a bit dodgy?

NewLockdownNewMe · 05/12/2020 17:12

If this cough already existed when you had the negative test (why on earth did you drip feed that), then you can go. But be prepared to be a pariah and possibly get yelled at.

Is click and collect really booked up? I’ve just looked and in my area there’s two slots available for tomorrow, then plenty for every day after that.

PurpleDaisies · 05/12/2020 17:13

In answer to the question, “is it fine to go to the supermarket with a cough after a negative covid test?”, yes it is.

WildWindBlows · 05/12/2020 17:18

Lots of people have chronic coughs, my mum being one. She does get looks but what's she supposed to do, stay in forever? Go to the shops if you need food and are confident it's not covid. Most coughs are not covid related. Government guidelines specifically state 'new continuous cough' don't they?

PurpleDaisies · 05/12/2020 17:19

Yes, and the op’s was continuous enough for her to get a test already.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/12/2020 17:19

Yes I would. If I stayed home every time I had a cough I'd never be out. The cold weather aggravates my chest so I cough quite a lot in the winter months.
