Would you go to Tesco with a cough

I've had a mild cold all week, a slightly scratchy throat and a runny nose. The scratchy throat is now making me cough but the cough definitely originates in my throat, not my chest iyswim. So, I'm confident I don't have any of the symptoms.

However, I am coughing quite a lot and slightly concerned I might get lynched. WWYD?

People in the shop will assume you’ve tested. People on here reacted because you implied you hadn’t been tested.

MadameBlobby · 05/12/2020 19:09

If you’ve tested negative and don’t need to isolate then yes you can go. Why on Earth was that relatively significant information missing from the first post?

People might scowl if you cough but you won’t see them behind their masks, are unlikely to be in the vicinity of anyone for more than a couple of seconds, and you know you’ve tested negative and you need food so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Shop away if you’ve had a negative test.

midinthenight · 05/12/2020 19:22

Then go. Mil has an awful cough, negative covid test but under investigation to find the cause. It's been an annual thing for a few years now She goes shopping and nothing has been said. She certainly hasn't been lynched!

Of course, show some consideration and stay at least 2 metres from people, wear your mask and cough into your elbow as discreetly as possible

People will assume you're plague ridden.
In August, was walking thru a park in Yorkshire & swallowed a fly (hot summer day).
Good 5 minutes of coughing ensued. People were utterly freaked out by me.
I found it funny but luckily not stuck in supermarket together.

I have chronic sinus problems and cough quite often. If I developed a new cough, I would isolate, but as it is I try to stay home as much as I can, and keep away from people when I go out, wear a mask etc. People I see regularly - including eg my hairdresser/eyebrow lady - know it’s a usual thing for me, particularly in winter.

fatkitchen · 05/12/2020 21:19

I would stay home. When the dc went back to school in September I caught a terrible cold from ds( definitely not THE bug) probably because having the kids at home for 6 months caused school bugs to become extra strong, but I stayed in the house and didn't go shopping. I didn't want to worry people.I would expect others to show the same courtesy.

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 05/12/2020 21:28

Nope, I wouldn't go. I'd get a test and isolate until I got the result.

In addition, I've heard doing a poo in the middle of the bread aisle is now more socially acceptable than coughing in public.

And this thread just proves how totally fucking insane this world has become. Please get a life (if we are ALLOWED to have one any more.

Depends if you think getting chased with pitch forks and burning torches would put a wrinkle in your impending Yuletide celebrations or not OP.

My friend had a mild tickly cough. He and his wife were joking on about him having The ‘Rona. Two weeks later the cough got worse and he went to hospital. A week after that they put him in an induced coma, and another week later he was dead from Covid. Age 43, no prior health issues. If you’re coughing you need to get tested and definitely don’t go to Tesco.

Skipsurvey · 06/12/2020 05:04

yes, wear a mask

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/12/2020 09:04

You've had a negative test so yes, go. I have a chronic cough and would never go out if I worried about it. I had a couple of tests when it got worse, both negative, so I'm just getting on with it now. Unfortunately wearing a mask makes me cough more so I just explain when I go somewhere!
