Worried about test

I'm worried about having a test
I've got a cough which is most probably not covid. Might be asthma cough? But I have to get a test don't I?
There's a walk in test centre
There's no way I can do it myself
You don't find out if the staff or you do it till you get there
I'm so worried about the test. I think I'll be sick. I don't think I'll be able to let them do it I think my reflex won't let me
It's like going to the dentist which I have a phobia of - the whole putting things in mouth, mouth being obstructed, not going to be able to breathe and choke thing

I'm currently part of a weekly Covid testing scheme. It's really not that bad. I administer it myself due to social distancing. A quick swab with a large cotton bud on the back of your throat and up your nose. It's literally over in seconds.

10 seconds in a nostril is the worst bit, ask for it to be done assisted, you should get the choice. The throat swab isn't too bad at all and I'm a dreadful coward.

Was just looking for a thread like this! Any tips for the test. I'm going for one tomorrow and am really anxious about the throat swab because my gag reflex is so strong. I'm worried that I'll be sick

I had to do it myself so I don't know what it's like if they do it
But to be honest I didn't have to make myself gag - I put it at the back of my mouth pretty much guessing and I did both sides. I went back far that I would have gagged if I'd carried on. And for the nose I just went up the nose really. It seemed to be enough to get a conclusive result so makes me happy!

see the other thread for tips. but little by little helps. I swabbed for a couple of seconds, swapped side of throat, swabbed that for a couple of seconds and kept repeating until i had done the right amount of time. I am not bothered by up the nose at all so did that extra well.
