News just breaking on BBC

Yes I agree, but I thought GP’S may not necessarily have the facilities for storage especially surgeries in some villages plus the batches are about 975 and cannot be split. Just feel sorry for old folks who should be at the top of the list but unable to get to the vaccination sites due to transport issue. They are already saying care homes may not be top of the list due to the distribution issue.

roxanne119 · 03/12/2020 18:33

I’m one of the early ones to get it I’m so proud of everyone involved that has got this jab this far . I will be front of the queue when they say I can be . So should anyone else . The only reason it’s fast is because everyone has worked together on this and nothing else .

browneyes77 · 03/12/2020 18:35

I’m all for vaccines.
I’m not scared about what’s in the vaccine, I’m confident it’s been researched and developed properly.

My issue is not with the vaccine itself, but the fact that I’m absolutely PETRIFIED of needles. I mean full on panic attack, hyperventilating the lot. (Been like this since a GP really hurt me giving me an injection as a child - 43 years old now and the fear is still there! They always hurt me!)

So if any of you do get it that are also not good with needles, can you come back and tell me if it hurts much please? Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/12/2020 18:42

Same here, browneyes77, though it's not the reason I'll avoid the jab at least in the initial stages

Ironically I've recently spent a week in hospital (RTC and broken hip) and been spiked from here to kingdom come ... but not into the arm muscle, and stupidly that still frightens the hell out of me Blush

Do those of you who are scared of injections/blood tests find the dentist treatment ok for you with often multiple lidocaine shots into you gums?

user1472151176 · 03/12/2020 19:35

I think we are still a way off from returning to normality but fantastic news and what an amazing job the scientists have done to achieve this. I'm apprehensive about the vaccine as its new but if I get offered it I will take it. I'm under 50 so it doesn't look like I'll get it at all but we'll see what next year brings. I think the uptake will be good, obviously there will be people that won't have it and not just anti vaxxers.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/12/2020 19:38

Unfortunately that's even worse, veeeeh Blush

Anyway, apologies; I realise this isn't about my silly phobia, but since it was mentioned ...

allybird1 · 03/12/2020 19:42

As a scientist who has knowledge of regulatory requirements there is no way that this has been a 'rush job'. Just a highly efficient and focused approach to the global situation. There is nothing in this vaccine that you wont have had in any other vaccination. Rest assured it is safe.

chubbycheeks26 · 03/12/2020 19:46

Well, I'm glad I'm at the bottom of the list and that my daughter is too young for it. I'm very wary when possible long term affects aren't known.

PrivateD00r · 03/12/2020 19:50

@mynameisbiggles

Good news indeed. I've lost four friends this year - all of them with pre-existing health conditions (cancer) but all four have been registered as having died of Covid-19 - a virus they all caught whilst in hospital. When I see so many NHS staff wearing their scrubs in the street or in the shops etc, I am not surprised so I do hope NHS workers will be first in the queue to have the vaccine. It won't stop death, but at least those who are terminally ill might be offered the dignity to pass away in peace, at home, with their families near.
That is terribly sad Flowers Awful too for all those infected NHS staff who caught it from patients Sad Many people wear scrubs now, including staff in vet practices, dentists, admin in GP practices, the teachers in my school back when they did key worker childcare (!), private hospital staff, the list is endless! Our trust had members of the public complain about staff in uniforms driving their car, the trust knew it was community staff as the covid enforcement officers at the doors confirmed staff were never seen coming or going in uniforms. Their solution? Community staff now must wear coats zipped right up so their uniform is not visible between calls. This started in June, when it was roasting Hmm We are also forbidden from using toilet facilities in shops and we can't go into GP surgeries. All to keep the public happy.

It isn't silly! Hopefully though you can find a way to move on from it, it is a really frightening phobia Flowers

No I personally will not be having it I have looked into it with great detail and it changes your DNA

It doesn’t, but can you link what you’ve looked into
GoldenOmber · 03/12/2020 20:48

Would be great if it did change your DNA. Immunity to covid and powers like Spider-Man, sign me up!

No worries, I just wondered, given that vaccinations occur less frequently than a visit to the Dentist!

For the record, I go ballistic in the dentist chair (if I get there in the first place lol). I gag and think I am choking. It ain't easy for the poor dentist, not to mind me!

I understand your fears.

Well thank God you’ve looked into it and found something that the countless experts from all around the world who have spent lifetimes researching and creating vaccines hadn’t discovered. The worrying thing is that it is all too easy for most of us to just ignore your insane comments but the risk is that idiots like you will put off other more vulnerable worried people . Shame on you - you are a disgrace.

The dentist tried to give me an injection once when I was 15 to fill a small hole in a tooth.

I practically ran away, so he did the procedure without the injection (which didn’t hurt and was just uncomfortable, so the injection wasn’t even needed).

I’ve not had the misfortune to need any further injections at the dentist since then. If I did, I’m guessing I’d run away again Grin

Jeeperscreepers69 · 03/12/2020 21:05

@Castiel07. Wow just wow wow. I visualise you snorting at your phone at all the bad grammer.

I don’t think it’s a silly phobia.

In fact, I always get frustrated when people say things like “don’t be daft, it won’t hurt”.

Except I know there’s a very good chance it will hurt me. I know this from experience. Every injection I’ve ever had has hurt Grin And when you’re nervous about it, it only hurts more because you’re tense!

It’s horrible when you have a phobia of something and people minimise it.

Maybe I should just get shitfaced before I have the jab so I won’t feel it as much GrinGrin

A bacon sandwich is more likely to change your DNA! Google nitrosamines.
